I’m quite the princess when it comes to my skin. I’m easily comparable to the story of the Princess and the Pea in fact. When something comes with the slightest contact of my skin, I’ll bruise immediately. So imagine the kind of grimace I face the streets of Chinatown on a busy Monday afternoon. Old ladies with shopping strollers, bags of groceries moving at the speed of a sloth but rocking back and forth like an sea lion across the surface of the ice are plentiful indeed. So old ladies with sharp objects with no sense of personal space x 100= many tiny little purple spots on my arms and legs. I will endure this for the kind of produce I can find at this little homey grocery store. When’s the last time you had California bing cherries for .99 cents a pound? And rainier cherries for $ 1.39? Really really good juicy cherries? Not since the early ’90’s right? The bf and I were strolling around after an awesome lunch in Nob Hill and because we were inquiring about how to purchase cherries, the lady hands the both of us a couple of cherries and encourages us to munch. Samples! I love samples! We gladly purchased about 7 lbs. of cherries which were all dark, rich and juicy(and now in my tummy.) We also purchased some fresh lychee that tasted ripe and dripped down my chin when I bit into it. This place may very well be the only reason I venture into Chinatown again with or without shin guards and elbow pads again. It was quite worth the trek indeed.
