Random acts of kindness. As much as I would like to believe that there’s good in everyone, the [depressing] news and everyday interactions with«certain» humans, has made me lose faith in the human race. That’s until I met Max today… One of the guys at our other department told me that Lunchbox Café(kiosk selling bagels, soups, sammies, hot dogs, packaged burritos, pastries, coffee, and tea) along with the other kiosks and small businesses on 1455 Market are being forced to shut down by spring to make way for another new development. Times like this, I despise the gentrification in this area. Anyhow, he told me the owners are super nice, they make all their soups from scratch, and put a Mediterranean touch to everything. Two weeks ago, I had their Falafel Wrap($ 5.95) and Red Lentil Soup($ 3.70): . The falafel wrap could of used more sauce but it was just fine and filling. The soup was deliciously creamy and satisfying. This morning, I stopped by McD to buy their maple oatmeal but saw that they’re temporarily closed due to a fire. I saw that Lunchbox Café was open early(6:45 am) so I decided to get a bagel. As I was waiting for my bagel, I noticed that there’s a sign that read«Cash Only Please»(they no longer use Square since they’ll be closing). Me: «Sorry, I didn’t know you’re cash only now… I’m going to run across the street to B of A to go to the ATM.» Max(I didn’t know his name at the time): «It’s ok… you can pay me later or even on Monday.» Me: «No, really… I’ll be back… I’m going to go to the ATM.» Max: «Please…you pay me on Monday. Really, it’s OK… we like to trust people here.»(Now, this was the first time I ever met this man.) Me: *SPEECHLESS*(I don’t even trust my own mother.) Max: *Walks out of the kiosk to hand me my bagel with a warm smile* Thank you, Max for your random act of kindness and restoring my faith in the human race. A Happy Friday indeed!

Great little box café(true to its name). Has all the staples of a quick lunch spot and the owner seems to make a lot of the food himself. The hummus and gyros are a good bet.

Party of no. Cinematic treatment: Lunchbox treatment: No on jam, egg whites and sugar free syrup. But yes on hummus with my eggs and tomato on wheat toast and nonfat milk for my Americano. Experienced proved sometimes it’s good not to get your way. Finished product was delicious and just $ 5 for the pair. Returned a few days later to see if lunch was just as good. Less than $ 7 for a packed turkey sandwich with more hummus on Dutch crutch. Super friendly and engaging gentleman made them both. Cost went up a bit because he absolutely deserved a tip. Lunchbox easily gets my yes vote.

This is a small street vendor type of Café. He has everything a retail Café has. I go here for his falafel that he makes himself, it’s excellent. His prices a really good compared to the other Cafes nearby. He also has homemade soups like red lentil. Outside of his homemade stuff he has a good assortment of standard café stuff like sodas, water, pastries, etc. A great little shop.
