I came here for the first time with my father the other day and loved it!

I’ve been coming to this little gem for well over 20 years for the best cocktail buns in the city. They’re best eaten straight outta of the oven with a cup of Joe in my opinion. Also try the barbeque pork buns for a savory twist, pineapple buns, egg tarts, and sponge cakes. *The sweet lady(Fung) behind the counter recently retired., but the new owners seem to run the business in a similar manner as she did.

This place became kind of inconsistent the last couple of times I came here. The pork buns were too bready without much filling and were missing some of chewiness from before. Also the egg custard tarts were kind of soggy and not fresh. I’m not sure if they changed owners or bakers, but this place is just not the same as before.

Lung Fung has changed owners since ~Summer 2015. The nice lady behind the counter is no longer there, maybe«retired.» …Sadly, the buns are no longer the same… The bread is too thick, too sweet, and not as chewy as before. The BBQ Pork filling is now much less and the flavoring is slightly off. …pricing seems to have gone up to $ 1.2 each now… …what a bummer…

I got the BBQ pork bun and egg tarts. Both were really good. I prefer this place over Golden Gate Bakery. There is plenty of street parking, no waits out the door, and the cashier is wayyyyy nicer.

Servant: My Lord, what was it the barbarian said, as the riders vanished? Master LI: Omnia mutantur, nihil interit. Everything changes, but nothing is truly lost. Neil Gaiman — The Sandman These streets were old when I was young and first walked upon them. Streets here had such cool names. We walked to Fulton St or Clement St depending on what bus we needed to take. My mom flew my brother and I up to visit our aunt during winter break. So cold. I had never been so cold before and I got sick. Living in San Diego I had never been exposed to temperature extremes before. Still the vacation was awesome. There were awesome sights to see such as the Golden Gate Park and Seal Rocks and delicious Chinese food to eat. Better than any found in San Diego. Now I take my kid to San Francisco each summer to visit my aunt and to eat delicious Chinese food. Jennifer O. said I would find the best baked cha siu bao in San Francisco at Lung Fung Bakery on Clement St. I walk with my kid down Clement St. like I did when I was a kid. People are nice here. There are many delicious looking baked goods but I came by to try the baked cha siu bao. They were fresh and hot from the warming oven. Slightly sweet flavor from the pastry nicely complimented the delicious bbq pork filling. This is one of the best baked cha siu bao I have ever had. We will be back for our walk down these old streets next summer for more cha sui bao.

I stopped by after a short urban bike ride to check out their curry pie($ 1.50) because a bike ride is the perfect excuse to stop for a snack. You need energy, right? The pie wasn’t that big but it was pretty perfect — flaky crispy crust with a mild curry filling, not overwhelming or too strong. I also tried the BBQ pork bun($ 1.10) for comparison but it wasn’t as good as Wing Lee down the street. The filling was more goopy and the bun when bitten into just got mashed down. Hubby got a a giant almond cookie(60¢) which was nice but a little dry. Good value but stick to the curry pie here.

We happened upon this gem on Clement Street because we were on Geary and didn’t want to drive through the city to Chinatown for bbq pork buns. We turned to Unilocal and this place was near. It’s a small Chinese bakery and on the day we were there, two tables of Chinese chess were being played by old Chinese men. The bbq pork buns were kept in a warmer and we devoured the 8 we bought. Yes, 8 at $ 1.10 each. Egg tarts were fresh out of whatever is used to cook them and we got 6 of those. So delicious. No need to fight through the crowds on Chinatown for ok bun. Go out here and get the most delicious BBQ pork buns and if you are lucky, you get fresh egg tarts.

Love, love Lung Fung. It’s a small, hole in the wall Chinese bakery lounging around on Clement. There’s a large selection of various pastries to get, but what you really want to opt for are the pork buns. They are $ 1.10 each, and the lady/auntie who is there every morning(except today!) usually throws in a couple free ones. The pork buns are really good and addicting. They’re baked and more bbq-y than you typically find at most dim sum places. So get a couple or a dozen and throw in some egg tarts as well!

The BBQ pork buns are a MUST! I love that the bakery keeps the buns warm and not out on display, so when you bite into it, it feels like it just came out of the oven. The BBQ pork bun itself is amazing — moist, savory bbq pork encased in soft, fluffy pastry. It’s super cheap too — only $ 1.10 each. Pro tip: If you buy two BBQ pork buns, also get a egg custard for $ 0.80 — comes out to an even $ 3. That way you don’t have any loose change in your pocket :)

My first visit here and the Unilocal reviews are right on the mark with the BBQ buns and the egg custard tart. The dough of the BBQ bun is very light with a greasy air like quality. Normal buns have more of a substance and is heavier. This bun makes a good light snack on the go. The meat and sauce are flavorful. The egg tart filling is «wow» factor and stands out very well in taste and smooth texture; however, I wanted the crust to be a little thicker. I almost came across a perfect egg custard. I was so close and yet so far! LOL All in all it is a good bakery in this part of the city.

BESTBAOIVEEVERHAD. So my boyfriend and I come to San Francisco every four months for vacation and on one trip we tried to find the best BAO, and this place won by a long shot. Try to come in the early morning because that’s usually when it’s freshly made. Also, try the egg tarts because they’re great! Unfortunately it’s cash only but it’s totally worth every penny!

I made it! I finally made it while they were still open! That makes my 4th try and I am so glad I did. Got my four boxes ready to do my Santa drop off. Of course, I ate two ham and egg and one charsiu bao first. OMGGG!!! My mouth is so happy. Best morning cheap eats. I think I need to walk a few miles now. Small bakery shop owned by a couple. I had called in my ordered the day before and was happily greeted by a male. Arriving by 9am the next day I didn’t think my order would be remembered or even mattered since the store was light on patrons and it was early. To my surprise, after mentioning my name to a lady she had recited my order accurately! This couple is amazing, hardworking and talented. The lady was cheery and nice. Even when she told me, «no more boxes, ok?» she said it with a smile so I accept her answer. I had to wait for my final box and she even allowed and encouraged me to take the first three boxes to the car without paying! Her mannerism reminds me of my Mama L(RIP). She may not be aware but simply seeing her face this morning had added a smile to my face. Happy Sunday, everyone. Live, love and shine your light. What you need to know: Cash Only Not open on Mondays You might get lucky and be offered complimentary coffee Street parking Down the street from Honey B They offer Chinese chess for you to play while you’re on your snack break The front of the shop says they specialize in cake but I didn’t notice any cakes inside The flow is very frequent so you will see many locals stop by for a fresh bun every few minutes

I have been eating a lot less starchy foods as of late, BUT, after running some errands in the Richmond during the afternoon this was to tempting a change of pace , The one thing Lung Fung has nailed is the filling that actually has no cheap fillers, its just pure quality and goodness, That said, the buns were not as I am used to and lacked the Puff that one expects Was a good lunch, and will return again

I’ve been passing by this bakery for three years, and it wasn’t until recently that I saw the Unilocal reviews. I can’t believe I’ve passed one of the best places to get pork buns in the city! I also can’t believe there isn’t a line out the door all the time. I went this past weekend and, once again, my fellow Unilocalers did not disappoint! The bread on the bun was sweet, and the pork inside was balanced between sweet and savory. I also got a pineapple/red bean bun, it was delicious too. And the total price was less than $ 3. Plus, the woman who helped me was super friendly and had a big smile on her face at 8am. So I’m definitely coming back for the welcoming atmosphere and for the affordable, yummy buns.

Oh my gosh, go to Lung Fung bakery for the«best in the City» BBQ pork buns and the piping hot, creamy egg custard tarts that’ll send you right to heaven. According to Unilocalers in the know, get there before 4pm when they might sell out of both– or satisfy yourself with coconut cream-filled pastries and other things you want to eat. Everything looks delicious. Trust me when I tell you this: If you don’t live in the nabe, the quick trip to 20th& Clement is worth it. The service is beyond cheerful and friendly. Cash ONLY.

First things first… Lung Fung has 4.5 stars on Unilocal. A Chinese eatery. With a Unilocal rating greater than 4 stars. It must be extraordinary. It seems Lung Fung is best known for two items: their $ 1.10CHASIUBAO, a baked BBQ pork bun, and their $ 0.80DANTAT, or egg tart. Their baked cha siu bao( ) is pretty dang good. The bread tastes eerily similar to regular white bread, so it doesn’t have the sweet pineapple-bun-esque crust that I prefer(thanks for elevating my standards, Tim Ho Wan). If you get one fresh out of the oven, it’ll be full of piping hot, stickily sweet sauce enveloping fatty pieces of BBQ pork. Divine. As for the dan tat, I wasn’t that impressed(though my friends liked it). We got fresh ones that were straight from the oven – burn alert! The custard is generous, creamy, and subtly sweet, and is portioned well with the amount of crust( ). But, I have gripes with their crust, which is of the typical flaky style. Lung Fung over-baked the outer edges, leaving a burnt taste with every bite. Perhaps it was just this batch, but you can definitely see the darkened edges in the picture. That easily overpowered the delicate custard taste. Also, Tai Cheong spoiled me by introducing me to a sweetened, crumbly crust style, but, don’t fret, I’m basing my opinions relative to my experiences in the states. Authentically, English isn’t the strong suite here, and it’s CASHONLY. Prices are cheeeeep( ), and there is probably a gaggle of elderly Chinese men crowding around a table playing mahjong or Chinese chess. Their CHASIUBAO is worth a shot; as for the DANTAT, I’m still a Golden Gate Bakery believer. Extraordinary? I would shorten it to ordinary. But it’s still pretty darn good P:
