Lyon Loop is perhaps my favorite running trail through the San Francisco wilderness that takes you along Fort Mason, Gashouse Cove, Marina Green, Exploratorium, Palace of Fine Arts, Lyon Street Steps and partially through the Van Ness and Geary corridors. You could also hang a left past the Lyon Street Steps on Jackson Street and meander through Alta Park in Pacific Heights while catching more breathtaking views of Western Addition. The«trail» totals about 6 miles and offers nicely balanced mix of steep and rolling hills and flat paths. You even get an actual quasi-trail along Marina Green! Depending on your mood(and location) you can either start, peak, or finish at any of the various incredible, picturesque views throughout the run. «Lyon Loop» is also pretty versatile since, for the beginner, it can be your long run when you randomly feel inspired on a glorious weekend morning or for the intermediate runner, it capably serves as the regular pre-work or post-work de-stresser during the week. To sum up: Highly recommended for the beginner/intermediate runner.
