MacCracken Architects

When Steve and Daniel of MacCracken Architects walked into our Russian Hill condo last spring, we knew we’d found our architects: Friendly, articulate and oozing competence, they were immediately excited about the space, inspired by it, enthusiastic about the project. We eventually worked with Daniel and another architect of the firm named Hutch. They listened carefully to our needs from that very first day, and through the back and forth over the ensuing weeks we worked together to integrate our unique needs for the space into their creative vision.
The process of renovating was, to say the least, daunting. As the project progressed, Hutch became our point man day-​to-​day — and he stuck with us through all the trials and tribulations, very responsive and capable, and in the end helped make the process bearable, even enjoyable. Hutch was steadfast about his vision and demands for excellence when it would have been much easier at many junctures to compromise quality for expedience. He went far, far beyond the letter of the contract in order to see the project through to its completion.
The results are spectacular, far exceeding our expectations. These guys were truly amazing. I’m sure that there are many talented architects out there, but having been through this, I can’t imagine its having gone half as well with anyone else.

MacCracken Architects’ projects are designed with great concepts and the ideals of creating a structure that has a purpose, balance, and strong values. Its principal, Stephen MacCracken served as my professor at San Jose State University teaching a range of architecture courses and interior architecture courses. As a professor and professional Stephen MacCracken is very detail oriented and has an eye for structures that convey a sense of sleekness, modernity, and beauty. All of the materials that he chooses are well thought out and studied to achieve a positive impact on the environment as a whole. He is an outstanding professor who is able to listen to his student’s ideas, and provides positive critical feedback to enable a student’s project to reach a more optimum level. As a professor he assists and guides design students in setting realistic goals, and helps them design concepts that are innovative, futuristic, and realistic. Stephen MacCracken is a very passionate, hard working, and intuitive professor and architect. It has been a great experience taking various interior architect classes from him. MacCracken Architects is a multi-​dimensional architecture firm with projects ranging from high end residential to civic and commercial design. Its principal, Stephen MacCracken was my professor at San Jose State University in the department of Interior Design. He was the most demanding and thorough member of an accomplished faculty which is why he teaches the highest level senior design courses. He expects nothing short of perfection when it comes to quality of work; not only from his students but also from his employees. This demand for precision and quality carries over into his own projects, and makes for a portfolio full of clean, well thought out and intelligently designed buildings and spaces. Great portfolio which stands out in the bay area. I especially like the interior of the Grace Building in Manhattan. The Bankhead Theater in Livermore has impressive exterior detail along with a great interior layout. I have spent time with Steve MacCracken, and he has shown a spectacular sense of design.
