Love the atmosphere of this place, and i went there recently last week on Friday because they now have free painting from 6pm to 9 pm, and i saw that now there sell Empanadas Colombians, must say really Delicious, I bought all 3 favors(Turkey, Beef and Chicken) which had veges in all three empanadas, cool. there pretty big and the price is for them was good but what seal the deal was the favor… New chef there which i spoke to her and has a great personality just like the owners… must come by and try the empanadas and the other foods they have.

Stopped by Mama Art Café to meet Eddie, its friendly and bighearted owner. Little did I know it would have the most delicious savory crêpe, filled with fresh and tasty lox, cucumber slices, avocado and cucumber! Eddie was nice enough to let me talk with my mouth full ;) Seriously, this is a great neighborhood café that has all sorts of community events, from art nights to live music to hands-on entrepreneurship programs for military veterans. Free wifi, and delicious coffee drinks. Heard good things about the Mexican mocha. Eddie and team are super friendly. Try the crêpe, for reals. If only there were more spots like this in SF!

This is my second time visiting Mama’s and I love how warm and kind the staff always is. The art is a treat to behold. It’s ever changing and an eclectic mix. Pay her a visit. You won’t be disappointed.

First of all it’s def $$. They charge premium prices, but the taste does not match the price at all. Got a latte here, tasted terrible, worse I’ve had this whole year. Nice decoration and all, but just don’t come here expecting good coffee.

Don’t have enough great things to say about this place. Best place in the Mission. Strong coffee. Free Wi-Fi. Free painting on Friday. Extremely friendly staff. This is one of those salt of the earth SF spots that has yet to be touched by gentrification. It’s a neighborhood joint. Support!

Lox bagel was very fresh, Mexican hot chocolate not sickly sweet and service was warm, and atmosphere was refreshing and calming, nice jazz music in the background

Wow what a great little place! The owners Pablo and Eddie have done a fantastic job with this gem of a café. Totally family friendly and welcoming vibe, I came in on a Friday afternoon where they were doing an open art session and it was great to see people of all ages getting down with their paintings and having a good time. I hung out for a bit and chatted with a few very talented artists, got myself a Mexican Mocha and Mediterranean Bagel both of which were very very good. I love the communal sense of this place which seems to bring in all sorts of people together under one roof for a great reason(art & food). The staff was really friendly and looked like they were having fun which is a great sign of a well run establishment. I will be returning for many more visits as this has become my new local go-to café!

service is 5 stars for sure. However the service was painfully slow. I waited over 20 minutes for my breakfast bagel. There was only one other person ahead of me. the ONE star is because they go tmy order wrong. I ordered a bagel with ONLY, egg, tomato and onion. I get home, open the bagel and theres CHEESEONIT! I dont recall asking her to put cheese! Why is that a big deal? …HMMMMMIMLACTOSE!!! So I coulld not eat the bagel and had to throw it away. What a waste of 6 dollars. Will never go back again.

Everyone here is so kind and welcoming. I planned to come here to quickly grab a drink. I ended up staying for 2 hours and am still here. It’s a really nice place to work on your projects. It isn’t incredibly quiet or anything, but that’s something I personally prefer. I can always work on my projects at home, but I find myself becoming lazy when I’m there. Luckily, this café isn’t far from my house and I find myself coming here much often in the future. I had a cream cheese onion bagel and Mexican hot choco. Both were delicious but after reading reviews I plan on trying out the avocado bagel. Tried the tiger chai spice before I left but I surprisingly was not a fan. Such a good find!

Cool vibe café, bright colors, airy with space. Rotating art on the colorful walls. Super friendly staff and owners. Playing mellow Jazz over the PA from Youtube. Not a big selection of items, but a nice funky feel, and not crowded like the Mermaid. I had a nice lox and bagel, hold the red onion because I was meeting a client, but had the cucumbers, tomato and cream cheese on it. Nice tea to go along. Plenty of tables and chairs, but not crowded together. I liked this place, will come back again. In the Excelsior district.

Nothing special about this place, except the art. The bagel is just regular bagel. I did try the Mexican mocha. Its a little different than regular Starbucks one. Its ok. The thing that bothers me was, the guy was sweeping the floor after I sat down. Really? You can’t wait?

I really like this place. They have a minimal food selection(Cumaica or The Salad Place are better for café food), but their coffee is MUCH better and never burnt. You can buy the beans here, too. Pleasant service. Never crowded. The art selections can be really neat, too!

This is my favorite café in the Excelsior. Their coffee is top-notch(iced latte is my personal favorite), and you HAVE to try the veggie bagel. I rarely vouch for something with no meat, but this bagel is to die before. Highly recommended to avocado lovers especially. Another great aspect of this café are the murals painted inside. They’re all very vibrant and colorful, and give the place a cheerful feel. There is also a constantly fluctuating set of artwork lining the walls, and ensures that every visit is a unique one. You can tell Mama’s is a big supporter of community artists and events, which makes it a worthy establishment to support! The staff is kind, and I enjoy interacting with them during my visits. My one note to them would be to be a bit more careful with orders — I’ve gotten the wrong order a couple times, and have had to wait a long time when things didn’t seem too busy. Not a huge deal, and definitely won’t stop me from returning, but could dissuade other people.

Friendly local coffee place with great breakfast bagels. A nice, bright space to work if you are a laptop camper — usually easy to find a table.

I love coming in for an afternoon Mexican Mocha here. There is great local art to enjoy while you are waiting, and there is free WiFi if you enjoy your coffee and/or bagels in house. A neighborhood favorite!

Like their sandwiches breakfast. Whoops, I’m a bit dyslexic(no kidding, especially when I was younger with numbers, I would always flip them around). I meant breakfast sandwiches. Their salmon bagel sandwich is quite good, and they toast it for you. The location is sketchy and sometimes I feel a bit OCD when I clean off the table with lysol wipes stored in my backpack. The service is homely slow, but on a quiet day I like it because no one is here and my buddies and I can be a little louder as we laugh and talk shop.

I can’t believe I haven’t written a review of this place yet! Seriously, if you say you support small businesses, local businesses, or want to prove to the world that you’re not a gentrifier… support Mama Art Café. Paulo, the owner, is super community-oriented. He’s been active in making the Excelsior a beautiful and welcoming place. But best of all? Mama’s Art Café is an awesome business. I’ve really only come in the morning for food or coffee, and they’re really solid. Egg Bagel — something that’s totally decadent and drool worthy. Pretty sure they put a pound of butter in the bagel, with eggs and cheese. With some tomatoes and onions for your veggie fix. Veggie Bagel — Avocado, cucumber, tomatoes, cream cheese. YUMMM. Coffee here is always pretty good. It’s not the fancy stuff, but it gets you nicely caffeinated. Staff here are awesome. A bird wandered in when I was here a few weeks ago and got super disoriented. It flew upwards, naturally, to escape. But it couldn’t understand that it can’t fly out the windows. After a traumatic 15 minutes at banging into the upper windows(where we couldn’t reach it), the bird finally flew back down to ground level. At which point, a staff and another customer helped free the little guy out the door. Human kindness ftw!

Great lil spot in the mission to grab some coffee with some Latin flavor. Now if only they could start making Café de Olla, they might see me everyday.

Mama is one of those overly-hipster, dreary coffee houses that come dime a dozen around SF. You know the type. You walk in, all eyes are on you to make the correct order. Particular to this place, it’s literally pictures of people all staring at you with some artsy context to make you just that much more outside of what’s happening. I get the support your local and art walk context they are setting up for, but it still doesn’t make for a warm feeling coming into get my morning pick me up. The service was friendly and the coffee okay. It is a little more expensive to say a Cumaica which is just a block over. Understanding though, as this place is peddling your Fair-Trade Organic ware, which is added on to the price of my coffee not being made under terrible circumstances. I love that slaves from a faraway country aren’t farming my coffee. And I’m glad the label they stocked were fortunate enough to afford the organic tag so they can sell it as such. Honestly though, just like most first world concepts, it’s how much you want to accept as your own personal guilt in life. And my coffee like most of my produce and other farmed ingredients, doesn’t have to meet much expectations for me to enjoy it. First world pig, I know. I would come back again to give this place another try, if only for a change of pace to other coffee shops around the way. Unfortunately, I can’t say this will be my regular coffee spot. Which is fine, since I didn’t really belong in there in the first place.

I wouldn’t normally come out this way, or to a café either, but Mama Art has worked well as a convenient meeting spot for me and my mentee the past two months, so, here we are. The place has always been fairly empty while we’re there, which keeps it nice and quiet. Tables consist of small round two-tops for the most part, and a large communal table towards the front. Wi-Fi is free, and has been steady and solid; employees have been friendly and unobtrusive; and their drinks have actually been fairly tasty, having tried their hot chocolate and Mexican mocha thus far. 3.5 stars for these folks! ***Accessibility Info*** Venue — Really spacious café with plenty of seating and open space between tables. The two-tops aren’t the best for accessibility, since they have radial spoke legs, but the communal table is accessible, and actually designated as such. Bathroom — Pretty large, and accessible as well!

This place is fantastic! I discovered it yesterday while working a promotion nearby. The owner is very friendly and community oriented.(He was telling me about his separate nonprofit that helps veterans with job training and permanent housing.) There is a beautiful parklet in front(the only one currently on Mission Street) and artwork inside. The carry Mighty Leaf Tea which is high quality tea and will be bringing in tamales soon(including vegan options!). There are also plans to turn the huge unused backyard into an outdoor seating area. I was told that on Sunday they have tango dancing. I live in Berkeley but will actually come back here again because the sense of community and atmosphere is so wonderful. The free wifi that my phone automatically connected to was great too.

I work in excelsior about once a week. I didn’t have my usual breakfast at home so decided to treat myself to an iced coffee and bagel on a sunny Friday morning. New favorite café in excelsior! Loved the vibe of the café from the piano in the corner to the group of little old men speaking Spanish and having their morning coffee. The art is interesting and the coffee was delicious!

Decent coffee. Confused about their décor but based on other reviews on Unilocal they need to leave most of the café empty for live performances and art shows.

Mama is a cool place to chill, sip your favorite beverage, while you enjoy viewing their wall of art exhibit! They provide venues for many cultural organizations, including an ongoing«Arts Reception» and a «Filipino Community Youth Center Open Mic» along with their Annual Festival. They embrace an eclectic culture of the Mission, while providing you with the best, organically grown coffee beans, all in one location! With so many cafes, coffee shops popping up everywhere in the City, blocks and blocks away from each other; what makes Mama’s Art Café unique? I would have to say, this place seems to have a local vibe, low key, and best of all; they seem to promote a local community needs and exposes Art to the public from all walks of life! My cappuccino was nice and smooth, and I was pleasantly surprised with the presentation of their latte! They do close early on Sunday at 4:30pm, but the nice woman was kind enough to take our order, even after they were closed. Fantastico! Until then, Cheers! ~ :p

After passing by this place so many times whenever i go walking to the bank especially that living in the excelsior/amazon crocker for a long time, finally got to try it Egg bagel — $ 5 — its pretty good. The egg is like thick size. It was steamy when they give it to you. It also cheddar cheese, cream cheese, avocado, onion, cucumber, and tomato. Even it maybe expensive, this bagel can keep you full for breakfast since it quite filling and thick. Small regular hot chocolate — $ 3: kinda pricey but i like that it actually hot. compare to most places, hot chocolate is usually luke warm. The hot chocolate that i had at this place had a lot of the chocolate flavor. At least it wasnt flavorless. Has photos/painting/arts on wall to make it homey. Looks like a family own local coffee place since its seems like its a mother and daughter working together at the cashier when i came in Play music in backgrounds Its roomy and clean Friendly service and it seems that the workers enjoy talking to the customers and it seems that they will remember you if you become a regular
