A small place to grab a quick pizza. Ordered a basic pepperoni and extra cheese, was slightly under cooked but was still pretty good.

Pizza tastes not bad. The reason for the two stars? Slice was lukewarm after I requested it be heated up. Server told me it was«hot». Nope.

Good pizza open late. Its a solid choice before or after the bars.

Used to like this place… last two times cold pizza. Today the slices looked old and she warmed it and it was still cold… time to try another place.

The pizza itself is decent, but not the best. Pizza by the slice is cold from the display and reheated in the oven which takes a few minutes. I always get the pesto mushroom, which is really oily and the pesto lacks flavor overall. The pizza is thin but has a really heavy crust, which I’m not a fan of. The older guy at the counter is really rude. I had asked him what the pizzas on display were and he impatiently told me to just pick one. When I went up to pay, he kept repeating«the total is $ 4.50» and staring at me trying to hand him a $ 5 bill. I came up with .50 cents in change and he finally took it and gave me back a dollar in change. When my slice to go was ready, he just left the plate on the counter and didn’t even call me up… while he handed other patrons’ pizzas to them directly at their tables. Overall, the pizza is kind of pricey(around $ 5 for anything that has more than just cheese) and it’s inconveniently cash only.

Best pizza in SF hands down. New York style and so amazing every time.

This place is amazing! Drunk or sober this place has the best slices in the city for my taste! I can’t get enough of Marcello’s!

Great pizza, great employees, and a great atmosphere! I had a great experience eating here, can’t wait to come back! PS, cash only.

Totally average pizza in every way, with many pies already prepared and simply waiting to be reheated by the slice. The slices themselves aren’t cheap either, although opting for a slice of pizza here is nevertheless a cheaper option than most in the neighborhood. Indeed, it’s a perfect stop during a bar crawl or as a break from all that drinking, as it’s always open late.

Marcello’s was just about the only place open late on a Thursday night that was willing to deliver to our vacation rental. Seriously, 11:30pm delivery is a huge plus in my book given how lazy I am. The pizza was solid. We got a basic cheese and their special which comes with pretty much everything on the menu. I wasn’t a huge fan of the crust, but I was a pretty big fan of how it reheated the next day. Who’d have thought that finishing two pizzas and two salads after 11:30 at night was going to be an issue? Solid choice for a late night, last minute, case of the munchies.

The pizza by the slices are very good. The staff just needs to be a little bit more friendlier.

Many, many a pizza joint do not deliver to my little castle in the clouds. What is a New York City boy to do when he’s got the pizza itch? Alas! It’s Marcello’s, coming to the rescue! Let’s be clear: Marcello’s is not better than(or as good as) the real deal, but it’s pretty damn close. And that’s a revelation in San Francisco. As tempting as their specialty pizzas look, I typically opt for a more simple, one-topping or plain pie. Once in a blue moon, I’ll order a calzone from Marcello’s; those are quite good, too. Note that I’ve only ordered delivery from Marcello’s; I can’t speak to their in-person service or their establishment’s décor. Also, they’re cash or in-state check only, and delivery times can be long(one hour plus) during peak times.

Great pizza and a great price for a slice. Some of the next NY style pizza in SF, they pile the toppings on and ensure the quality is great. The next part is you don’t have dropping oil when trying to bite or fold the pizza. Early evening or late night, they’re pretty good!

This place has AMAZING pizza. I have been gone from San Francisco for 18 years and had to have a slice. It tastes just as good now as it did then. The crust is so soft and flavorful that you eat every bite. It’s still some of the best pizza I’ve ever eaten.

Came here after having a slice of combo from Oz just up a block. Had the cheddar potato and broccoli slice because it was something I had never heard of. Crust was so thin that it was crunchy but soft at the same time. Also, crust had flavor unlike the thick flavorless crust from Oz. Plentiful cheese on one slice which was a plus. Toppings were abundant. Does not disappoint. Definitely recommend this place over Oz if you’re on this block looking for pizza! Plus, it’s cheaper and more options than Oz.

Overall fantastic flavor, the dough is impressive. Its light despite all of the oil. Avoid the eggplant dish as it adds close to 0 flavor(it’s not pre-cooked or marinated, just sliced and thrown on-top). The sundried tomato and pesto was a tad bit better than Escape from New York HOWEVER it also gave me lower stomach pain within about five minutes of eating. Not interested in taking my chances, will stick with Escape for now on!

We were in Castro… very hungry and did not know what to eat. Thanks to Unilocal,we ended up at 420 Castro St… with fresh BAKED pizza ha! All kidding aside, the pizza is a solid 4. Service on the other hand. a bit whatever. but who cares because the pizza was tasty. The sauce was flavorful and tasted fresh. The sicilian pizza(deep dish) was good. Bread was soft on the inside and crispy on the edges. Sausage was yummy! The crust on the pizza was good too. Soft and chewy and crispy on the edges. About $ 3.50-$ 4.00 a slice depending on what type you order. Not sure if that’s expensive or not. But it seemed like a decent amount of food for the price.

Near the corner of Castro and Market this pizza shop has been here forever. They sell both a thin crust and a thick crust, both whole pies and by the slice. They also sell other stuff like burgers but I have never used the menu I just see whats on display and get a slice The pizza is good with a nice amount of cheese and a good sauce that is not put on to thick, like some places, so the cheese and toppings are able to stay in place. Other then that their prices are ok especially for the area, they are open late for the bar crowds, and I have never had a problem with the service. My best tip is if you can sit at the bar in the wind for great people watching.

I’ve been here tons of times but somehow never managed to write a review – maybe something to do with my state when I’m typically here. Excellent slices and location. Good variety for a small shop and super nice people. Minus one star because they don’t take cards in 2014(almost 2015!)
