I went to see the finale performances for the 2011 Merola Program held at the Herbst Theater in San Francisco on Friday evening, July 22nd. Wow! For any opera lover, seeing a Merola finale performance is like looking through a window into tomorrow’s future opera stars. These folks are already top notch and the evening was so entertaining. The only negative comment I have is about the audience and not the performers. I could have done without the two ladies next to me chatting over the singers and the guy in front of us snoring. Ugh! All in all, I highly recommend attending one of the Merola performances. It is a delightful way to spend an evening.

Wow…2009 …some of these guys are going to be wowing the world with their voices and looks… hey TUBBY… you are soo last year it isn’t funny… time for gastric bypass. yeah…i’m talking to you FAT tenor man with the arrogant turd ‘tude.
Thomas Hampson graduated from this program. I will list the others another day… but hey… when you hear a Master class and see these men and woman… wow!!! Check some of them out this year… mezzo-​soprano is lovely doing Carmen! Beautiful unamplified voice!
