A friend said it going to be cool but our ideas of cool are not the same. I can see why people might have fun here as everybody seemed to already know each other, including the bartender. Hipsters and drunkards would the categories I I’d use. I had my beer, I got hit on, I had another beer and I enjoyed my friends. I had a third and final beer talked to some cute boy who quickly revealed himself to be aloof, unhappy, intimidated or gay, not sure. I’m not into the taxidermy that decorates the place so that was a little sad. Not a bad place but not what I look for in a bar. My friend says a I’m missing the point. I was told there’s a trivia night here.

I was intrigued by this bar. The name, for one reason. And it does have a cool dark semi-divey quality to it inside. Things were well. But then, the drink menu. Good lord, uninspired vodka and rum drinks, including an awful Lemon Drop that seemed like the best drink on the tiny happy hour menu(but wasn’t). Adding insult to injury, we were told that we could ONLY order off the limited happy hour menu. There were other cocktails I would have wanted to try — and I was willing to pay full non-happy-hour prices for them… but, nope! This was not a crowded, slammed bar, either. That’s a really odd business practice, wouldn’t you say? I took my Management 101 class a long time ago, but I’m pretty certain I recall learning that businesses tend to organize and operate for the(hopeful) purpose of making a profit. Given that, one would think that when customers are sitting there willing to pay for full-priced cocktails, the bar would go ahead and ring ‘em up. Weird.

Minx. The name is so seductive and sexy, we couldn’t resist coming in for a quick drink. It felt comfortable and unpretentious, dim-lighting, and a couple of touches like an ornate mirror meant to give it more class than your average dive bar. Although there are a couple of sofas and alternative seating options, we grabbed a spot at the bar. It was early on a Thursday night, so the place was pretty open. Immediately we were informed that the slushy machine was out of order, so we were relegated to one side of the cocktail menu. The options weren’t really all that inventive, and certainly nothing so unique you feel like you couldn’t get it everywhere else in town. I went with some kind of lemonade/lemon vodka combination. It wasn’t exactly pricey, but I was disappointed to discover how horrifically pucker-worthy my sour drink was. Almost undrinkable kind of terrible. Compared to the numerous other options around SF where I actually enjoyed my drink, I just found it a bit underwhelming. Also, I found it a little odd that they were showing CrimeTV on the flat screen. Not bad just odd. Overall, it might be worth swinging by, or coming in if they have some kind of trivia night or event, but I’m not sure I would really want to make it my evening’s main attraction otherwise.

So you’re interested in going to the Minx huh? Well let me tell you now what exactly you’re getting yourself into… First off, I have never gone to the Minx and have actually seen a crowd inside of more than 5 – 10 people at one time, there are n e v e r any cute guys present, and no one is in my age group(that being 22 – 27), so basically it’s a early 30’s lazy lower nob hillian’s dream bar. However, the ambiance and décor of the Minx is something I am totally in love with. It’s very chic, vintage, and romantic. Totally first date intimate getting to know each other over drinks worthy, which I can, from experience say. I think the only reason I gave this 4 stars is not the fact I run into old lovers and their new ugly girlfriends here, but the fact that the specialty cocktails are a m a z i n g. However, don’t expect a night at Ruby Skye here or anything(not that anyone should even go to Ruby Skye ever) but the Minx is quaint and adorable, I’d say check it out. specialty cocktails $ 8 beers on tap are good plus you can get like a $ 2 pbr if you’re broke.

No discernible«scene» to deal with and friendly bartenders. Those two points alone sell me on Minx. Smallish, darkish, and reasonably volumed. Ample seating at the bar and some cozy lounge areas with couches and the like. Overall, a real comfy place to chill. I will say, though, that the orange(is it ever any other color?) slushie crap is just that… crap. Do not recommend. I can’t figure for the life of me why they even bother to have it. But nobody’s forcing it down your throat; no harm, no foul.

Read a review on 7×7 and walked into the bar for the hell of it. Great find. It’s intimate, small and not stuffy at all(temperature or attitude wise). It’s not necessarily a dive bar but it’s not a cocktail lounge either. Just a down to earth place to talk with friends and the bartender. They have a great list of beers and beer mixes that were surprisingly good. I never knew mixing a beer with tomato juice could turn out something comparable to a Bloody Mary. Would definitely bring out of towners here.

Maybe the worst old-fashioned I had in life… but overall the place is warm and the taxidermy display is pretty special. Also, I do not agree with the«good prices» comments below me… maybe $ 8 or $ 9 for a cocktail sounds good to you but for $ 10 each you can get killer craft beverages three blocks down at Bourbon&Branch… Too bad Mr Lew’s Win Win closed… those were good cocktails at a fair price.

This has got to be in my top 5 bars to go to in SF. Totally found this bar when I spent the day in SF bar hoping. It was so random and just spontaneously decided to give it a try. Upon getting inside Minx, it was a little dark and looked pretty small. It had a small bar area and a lounge area with some vintage couches and coffee table in the middle. They had all sorts of cool décor up on their wall which was different from other bars I’ve been too. The bartender was really awesome and nice. He was easy to talk to and recommended drinks to try. I tried the wellington and the big easy which were great. I was taken photo’s of the place and he kinda recommended to try to talk to owner to try to shoot some photo’s when there are events that go on in Minx which was super cool of him to do. The prices of the drinks are pretty cheap in my opinion that’s also a plus for me to return to Minx. Awesome bartender, great drinks, and good prices… what else is there say to make you try this place out.

Dark, dinky, and dive-y. My type of place. I wandered in here after a gallery showing across the street and was pleasantly surprised. It was Halloween weekend and everybody was dressed up and in great spirits. It could have been the beer and spirits but I think it was the overall vibe of the place. Friendly and welcoming. Great spooky themed music was traveling through the air and awesomely themed drink specials were being poured generously. The restrooms were disgusting but other than that, this place was great. I will return. Cash only always sucks.

small, quirky and dark. their playlist is really good(think ratatat and alphabetical-era phoenix) — exactly what i want to hear when i’m not quite in the dance-y mood but maybe feel like bobbing my head or swaying my shoulders. i really love the living room feel of this place. albeit a very bizarre living room. i found a wallet and turned it in at the bar and the bartender(a very cute one, btw) awarded me and my friends with a complimentary round of «special» shots for being good samaritans. a home-y bar run by dope people with excellent taste in music. i look forward to my next stay here :)

Came here for drinks earlier this week. It’s a cute, quaint little dive bar that manages to have a really nice atmosphere and an adorable bartender who was right on top with drinks, cold frosty glasses, and when done drinking, big glasses of water! Would happily come back to meet up for drinks. It’s a nice place to hang.

My friends and I came up here on a whim yesterday and I can attest that all the 4 to 5 star reviews on this page are absolutely true. Sure, it’s small and a little bit cozy, but the drinks were very affordable, the bartender awesome, and the crowd very eclectic yet friendly. People actually come up to you to strike up some down-to-earth banter and conversation. Also, I love how they play 80’s B-movies on the wall, and have such a random sense of interior design. Very very cool. Lastly, there’s free food on Wednesday nights. I had a complimentary meatball sandwich. Which other bar would EVER do that?! That sold me completely. I will definitely come back here again in the near future!

Me likey. Drinks with Kate the birthday girl? Check Seeing Matt sober for I think the first time ever? Check Dog wandering around? Check. Almost pushing Nadja off the couch to sit next to dog? Check(and I’m sorry, I’m so inconsiderate sometimes. I don’t mean to be) Catching up with people I haven’t seen in awhile? Check This is a really cool establishment, and the bartender is awesome. Drinks, beer… couches…dark lighting… bow chicka bow wow. Oh wait, that was a different time when I hung out with Kate. A spot I definitely need to return to? Check.

A few friends brought me here on a recent trip and it is truly a little hidden em. I would describe it as an eclectic neighborhood bar that fails to disappoint. The ambiance is certainly one that doesn’t wow, nor is the place very big. However what it lacks in size and wow, it more than makes up for in character. The mix match of furniture and art that adorns the wall is certainly a conversation starter and makes for a comfortable, laid back atmostphere. Drinks are poured well and are pretty darn cheap by SF standards(in my book anyway) and the bar staff were pretty good. Granted, they aren’t warm and friendly like in Cheers, but what can you expect!

We had some time to kill before our dinner at Fleur de Lys, so we searched for a nearby bar to hang out at first. Minx was very close… just about a block away, and they had happy hour! Its a very cute bar with a bunch of eclectic knick knacks. You’ll find a raccoon holding a cigarette and a deer’s head on the wall… lots of little things to look at. They had a list of drink specials, but I decided to stick with a Grey Goose & Tonic. The drinks were very reasonably priced. $ 7 for my drink, and they don’t skimp on the alcohol either. I ended up getting a 2nd drink, too. That comfy couch mixed with alcohol equals a sleepy Patra. The place wasn’t too busy, but it could be that it was a Wednesday night. If I’m ever in the area, I’ll be back for a drink or two!

Not only did the décor and atmosphere here rock my world, the bartender, Jason, was very friendly and inviting. He even gave us a HUGE discount on our very-delicious drinks and helped my guy out with a phone number for his photography hobby. The video they were playing was some 70’s video that had a cavemen setting. it was pretty funny to watch while getting wasted. The drinks we ordered were the Wellington, which was more of a girly, pink drink, and the dark and stormy — which was a lot stronger but still sweet and tasty. Jason has definitely bagged some lifetime customers.(Though I’m still recouping from that night, so my next time won’t be too soon.) But so far, this is my choice bar in the city.
