One of the best places for pupusas! Their breakfast is also delicious. We enjoy eating here and the service is good.

Give it a go if you don’t mind waiting 50 minutes for some pupusas! You think waiting 20 minutes at Denny’s bad? Think again. Would give negative star if I could!

Customer service sucks! Food is really shitty. The Best thing that I got here was the soda probably because they didn’t make it.

The food is delicious. Traditional salvadorean food– but the prices? They’re too high! A chicken soup cost about 13 $-14 $, and they give you more bones than meat. To go, is the worst. It’s like they want you to be surprised and mad when you get home with the portions. They charge you $ 2.25 for a palm size side of rice– rice is .69 per pound Service there, is horrible. The owners have friends and family over, they get served before you do. The pupusas are the best. They need to change their prices and service and they’ll win be awesome.

This place is good but the only downfall would be that the customer service sucks. They’re slow and will sometimes raise the bill without telling you they did that to me twice but lucky I caught it before I paid.

Thanks Julio! Best Pupusas & Platanos Fritos I’ve had in a while. Wasn’t expecting, but LOVED the black beans inside of the pupusa rejuelta. Was in a rush so ordered to go and everyone still tastes amazing 30 mins later when I got back to work!

Get the spinach pupusa! It is so good! Nice to find a place that can really bring out the taste of all the ingredients that is put into it. I like that they don’t hold back on the cheese either. The only short hand was the service just becuase it was getting busy and there was only one person I can see cooking while the other was serving but overall the food made it worth the wait.

When they first opened the pupusas were anorexic hardly no filling. Then they got a new cook and they were awesome. But customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Stood there for 15min waiting to get my order that I had ordered almost 40 min before. 3 people at the registered just looked at me … Then I asked for my food one said OK let me get it then left to wait at tables asked them again let me know if my food was even made, they said yes … Still took them another 5 min to talk to other payers then charge me n give me my food… Got home pupusas are thin

My friend recommended me this place so yesterday I give it a try. Food was delicious, very tasty. But the customer service disappointed me, not welcoming at all, I placed my order by phone, so when I got there to pick it up they didn’t greet me, all the staff looked at me like I was from another planet, I walk straight to the register and it took a couple of minutes to somebody to finally talk to me. I paid for my order and never hear a thank you. Well I think was my first and last time here. Too bad because food was good but I hate going to a place where staff are not friendly at all

This restaurant is clean and their food its the best you can find in san francisco. specially their fresh soup. Everything it’s fresh, that’s why some time something simple will take more time to prepare like burritos. And it’s some welcoming.

First impression, walked in to this place but not very welcoming. It took my sometime to get an order placed because the waitress was busy talking on the phone. I guess it’s more important to chat than to take care of the guests at this restaurant. As for the food, it was all right. First time I noticed a microwave oven being used to cook pupusas. I guess there pre made then reheated as there sold.

Higher end Salvadorian place I don’t see it as. Service is slow and the place often still have flies. The neighborhood still has people just hanging around. Their pupusas are dry and need a lot of help. Traditionally pupusas are fried in lard, but they try to make them healthy and now just taste more like a naan with fillings. Their carne asada is just a fatty cheap cut of meat served like street food. Not a place I would plan on returning by choice.

Había visitado este lugar hace unos meses y me había encantado el servicio. Pero en esta ocasión vine con unos amigos y el servicio estuvo un poco. No me sentí confortable la verdad

Square story. Featured by the Chronicle: . They’ve since moved to a new square. Found by me: An egg white(thanks!), spinach and onion omelette with roasted potatoes and homemade tortillas. Appreciated the customization. End result was delicious. Staff was very friendly and vibe/clientele very local. This is the type of place to hit if you want a break from the gentrification. Plan to return for pupusas and other Salvadoran specialties no matter what square they are located.

The service was a little slow. The food on the other hand was awesome. I have been to El Salvador and this place is the most authentic I’ve had since getting back. I had the cows foot soup and it was amazing. Great consistency and very filling. It comes with two fees corn tortillas. I also had a papusa to get things stated and it was spot on. Eat here but expect to wait a little for your food but well worth it. The staff is super cool

As a full-fledged Salvadorian, I can be exceptionally discriminatory to bad pupusas. Thankfully, this isn’t the case for Montecristo. I can sincerely say that Montecristo is hands down the be best Salvadorian restaurant in San Francisco. Unlike other spots that specialize only in pupusas, everything at Montecristo is great! They do take some time to make your food, but it is worth the wait. Here are the specifics: 1) Their pupusas are the perfect ratio of filling: tortilla:size. It doesn’t have too much maza, or too much cheese, nor is it too big. They are spot on! 2)Their sopa, or caldo, is very fresh and they’re vegetables are cut perfectly to size! On a foggy SF day, or even a hot one, this soup is perfect! 3) Authenticity. The ambiance at Montecristo is as authentic as their food. Plus, you do not have to deal with a cadre of hipsters Instagraming their meals.

From the homemade tortillas made fresh by Mama Olivia, to the delicious, simple and relatively healthy breakfast choices this family owned establishment offers, a clean, family-oriented atmosphere in the Outer Bayview district. PLEASENOTE: Because the tortillas are typically made FRESH just after you place your order, if you’re in a hurry to eat and run, you may want to go elsewhere. The food here is all fresh and made to order and they tend to get busy on the weekends so, you may need to wait awhile depending on how busy they are.

Boo these bad reviews. They have excellent soups, great salpicon, and amazing black beans, sweet plantain(maduro frito) and crema dessert. You have to accept a different standard of service but if you go there frequently for fresh, delicious, hand-made food they will recognize you and treat you like family. We go there for lunch and work nearby and can eat a wholesome meal and get back to work within an hour. They also accept credit cards now. This isn’t a corporate place, just real people, real food, with real soul.

I used to come to their restaurant when it was in front of the Cow Palace, I’ve become very familiar with the staff. Well I’m giving this spot 4 stars because of the delicious pupusas, camarones a la diabla, pasteles de carne and can’t forget the Salvadoran horchata. The owner is very sweet, always gives a warming welcome. The waitress needs to get off her high horse though. If the waitress was nicer I come here all the time and they’d have 5 stars.
