My friends and I ate here yesterday. Had the French toast, which tasted like fish and by the time midnight rolled around we were violently sick with food poisoning. Very nice people but the place was not clean, not sanitary and it was only later that we saw the food and safety advisory posted at the back of the restaurant. Unilocal has posted a food advisory on there website– should have seen that earlier. Much is needed to make this place cleanly including washing their hands and wearing hair nets. The gentleman and woman cooking had very greasy hands and food in their hair. Very disturbing and unsafe practices.

Great home style breakfast and service. We got sat by the daughter was waited on by the Dad and the mom cooked the breakfast. The table we ate on could of been cleaner, some old dirt in the grooves. Maybe a paper placemat would help. Overall good breakfast for the price.

Unilocal is full of it! This place is so good and the couple running it are even better! Highly recommended if you want a home cooked breakfast!

Cute place for breakfast. Mom + Pop place to the fullest, as the only workers there were the Mom/Pop. The Omelet is waaay more than 3 eggs as stated on the menu.

Love this place. Passed by it often but finally had brunch there with friends. Very nice couple serving plates of corned beef hash, eggs, and Korean style short ribs(amongst other things… but we’re carnivores.) Nothing fancy, 100% satisfying! The way brunch is suppose to be. Never mind Unilocal’s warning about their health score: It’s been corrected months ago. Not sure why Unilocal hasn’t updated their website to reflect it.

I’ve come here for years and I’ve seen it go from a secret breakfast spot to jam-packed. And now business seems to have cooled off. Why? I’m guessing because of the food scare warning Unilocal has put up as though they are now the Department of Public Health. Whatever. In a world where Chipotle is spreading E Coli in multiple states, but you haven’t exactly seen people drop off their burrito bowl habit because of it, and not an official damn word from the powers at Unilocal about it, I imagine this is much more about them not being a sponsored listing to have the notice removed than actual public safety concern. Shame on Unilocal. In the meantime, I’m eating my French toast and corned beef hash made by nicest old couple in SF without worrying about squeamish new money coming and being the real infestation in this place.

First time here for brunch with my coworker, the buttermilk pancakes were delicious and a lot of fresh fruit on the side. Definitely would come back again, very satisfying and affordable

So I came to this restaurant one Sunday morning to celebrate a small victory, and it was delicious. I had some sort of meat lovers omelet and NOM, it was good. I always love coming to small nook breakfast-brunch places and this place delivered! There was quite a wait, but that’s expected coming from a small kitchen. It was definitely worth the wait! btw, I went sometime around late August, I just literally now finished my review. I can still remember how delicious the food was months later!!!

This place was amazing. Great portion size free coffee refills. The food is a little on the greasy side but I don’t care as long as it’s good, hot and doesn’t taste like grease. The woman behind the griddle cooking is so very nice. Everything was great. Ill be bringing my husband back to try the corn beef hash!

Good breakfast joint that was supposed to our hotel. We ordered the stuffed French toast and the corn beef hash. Both tasted good. The corn beef hash looked like dog food. I closed my eyes and enjoyed it. Come with cash or debit card.

I stopped in for a to-go order, and the Moulin was filled as usual, so I knew it would be a bit of a wait.(Around 30 min.) So I spent it outside staring into my black mirror. It was well over a year since I had been there last, and as always, I was happily greeted by Janet’s welcoming smile when I walked through the door. John was pretty busy helping customers to their seats and taking orders, but as soon as he was able to, he came to take mine. I ordered up my usual Denver Omelet and also the Cream Cheese-Stuffed French Toast for my girlfriend. The Omelet was undoubtedly great, and the Toast was enjoyed very much as well. Both were very, very filling! You guys are still the best! Thank you!

The décor was 70s casual & the menu was full of promising items. We came here based on reviews. The food is good but a bit greasier than i like. Some people are fine with a bit of grease. I would recommend this restaurant & give it 5 stars if it weren’t for the grease.

The woman cooking in the open kitchen of this Mom ‘n Pop is friendly — that’s only part of the other reviews that rings true. Other than that, I was super unimpressed… Service was inattentive and I received bacon instead of the sausage I had ordered. They wouldn’t allow me to substitute fruit for the hashbrowns and served me a $ 7.50 plate of fruit instead. Eggs and sausage were pretty tasteless… Skip it. (PS they don’t take credit cards. that led the woman in the front to advise me to «carry cash when I travel!»)

13 Aug 15 — Went based on Unilocal reviews & its history, must have caught them on a bad day. Food was greasy & there was dust/fur on the light fittings. I didn’t use the restroom but the wife did… from her reaction probably the only positive from the experience.

Even though this place is in a terrible area, it was worth the walk. Yes, it’s very dated inside, but the owners were very nice and fast. The food was really, really good! We had the banana walnut pancakes(huge portion with a TON of walnuts. You see the owner mashing it all together, so you know it’s fresh) and we also ordered an omelette. It was delicious! Cheesy, full of veggies, mouth watering! We didn’t even eat half. We were happy to have found this place!

The epitome of Mom and Pop, hole in the wall restaurant! The wife cooks in the kitchen and husband serves/takes orders –talk about some serious teamwork! The boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs, which is galbi(Korean marinated short ribs) that comes with eggs and hash browns. Ok, I’ll tell you that you’ll be chewing for days bc the portions are HUGE. Perfect cross between Korean and American(I’m Korean, I can attest to this). The pancakes are fluffy and will make your stomach smile. Texture is imp and this place NAILEDTHEFLUFF! Now eat, be merry and enjoy the beautiful TL.

Super cute hole in the wall, its not fancy, but its good. The owners are super cute! Very friendly and nice. The wife does the cooking and the husband does the ordering. I really wish them luck~! The Grub. [[ GARDENOMELETTE $ 11.99 ]] This omelet is made with three eggs, avocado, tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and bell peppers. This totally hit the spot to start my long day in SF~!

I’ve been living nearby this diner for a few years and been here several times during that time, so this is why I don’t come here more often. I like that the owners are running the diner, it’s a friendly run establishment where the wife is cooking and the husband is running the dining room and the occasional helpers bus and deliver water and coffee refills. The problem though is that the owners have aged like we all do and speed is no longer an option for them. It’s not that they don’t try to please their customers, its more that they cannot get food out quickly enough and overall dining service is so slow. But when the food does come, the portion sizes are large and it tastes good, so there is a lot of value for the price. But if you are in a rush, this is not the place for you. There are a number of places nearby that have better speed, but I’m not going to recommend them here, check Unilocal for alternatives. My partner and I will no longer being coming to Moulin Rouge because of the slowness and poor customer service. On out last trip today, we found a table in back, the latest helper came quickly, gave us menus and asked if would like anything to drink and we both said coffee. We waited about 10 minutes no coffee yet, and the husband came and asked for our order; My partner ordered bacon and eggs and that comes with hash-browns and toast, he chose the English muffin. I wanted ham and eggs and asked to replace the hash browns with fruit, sorry that’s not an option, so I switched to the 2 eggs, fruit and coffee deal with the English muffin. The coffee finally came out and when we tasted it, it was burned, you know the stuff you get from the bottom of the pot that’s been on the burner too long? Yes, that’s it, when the helper swung by we sent it back and said no more, please bring us two waters with no ice,(teeth sensitivities). We got two glasses of water filled half ways with ice. I was about to say something when my partner cut me off and just moved the ice from my glass to his. Then I got a full plate of freshly cut fruit(sorry forgot to take a picture, but it was great). It had two slices of melon on the rind, one honey dew and the other water, half an orange cut into slices, half a banana and half of an apple sliced. We waited another 20 minutes for our food and we saw several other patrons that did not get any service get up and leave. The rest of our food came out, see the pictures. My partner said that the hash browns were good as were the eggs. He took pity on me and shared his bacon with me. My eggs were cooked perfectly. The husband tried to serve us more coffee, even though he had served it to us the first time, we reiterated that we sent the first round back. You will rarely every get a check at your table here, so you’ll need to go stand at the register to pay and leave, they take cash and debit, although there are stickers that indicate they take Visa and Master Card. When I went to pay the bill I reminded them that we sent the coffee back, but still got charged for it, so no, we will not be back for that as well as the other issues mentioned. If however you still want to try them out because they are convenient to a couple of hotels nearby, be sure to go when they first open at 8am, when they are fresh and don’t have too many customers or tasks to get done. Then the service is great and the food comes out quick and you’ll think I’m just complaining because«that’s what this guy does.» Actually I don’t really like to complain, just wanted to let you know my take on this restaurant. Believe me, I really want to like this place, but just can’t anymore.

This is a small, couple owned restaurant in the Tenderloin. While it is in a sketchy area, during the day it feels safe and fine. When we arrived there was no line and we were seated promptly. They do seat according to the number of people in your party, so don’t expect to seat in a roomy 4-top if you’re two people. The wife is very sweet and greeted us as we walked in. The husband is a bit aggressive and seems grumpy, but I think that’s just how he comes across. He’s actually quite nice when you don’t ask him for things. I ordered the Short Rib Breakfast, which came with 3 short ribs, 2 eggs, a butt-load of hashed browns and 2 pieces of toast. It was a lot of food! They have big portions here! They informed me that they didn’t salt things, so everything came out just right. I wished the hashed browns were more crispy, but everything was very good and reasonably priced($ 13.99 for this particular breakfast). I loved the short ribs. They had a lot of flavor and were really tender. Apparently, the wife does all the cooking and the husband is the waiter. How cute! They are open until 2PM. They only take cash or debit cards, so be prepared!
