Bun Bo Hue. talking about Vietnamese noodle soup, this place has so many options to choose from not just Phở. this place also has secret menu # 22(not in the menu) which is Crab Soup. my favorite is Bun Bo Hue(pork, chicken and pigs blood) in spicy hot broth. open pretty late, good location, friendly people, cheap. good stuff.

WOW really disappointed in this place. After all the rants and reviews, I finally made it here, no, not after a long night of drinking as most others who frequent this place, Maybe had I been drunk I would have been able to enjoy the food? Lol yeah right. I would have enjoyed this as much as Phở Kim Long in Vegas. Y’all been there? At least its cleaner than here. We ordered the Banh Canh Cua(Crab noodle soup), Bo Tai Chanh(Beef Carpaccio), and Bo Kho(Beef Stew) The Bo Tai Chanh had to be the star of the meal, and that doesn’t say much. While there was flavor, it was disgustingly syrupy sweet, instead of slightly sweet, sour and fresh tasting as it should be. The Banh Canh Cua tasted like sink water with no flavor at all. I was really shocked that people rant and rave about this here. Drank a little much before eating here? The Bo Kho? How was it? I don’t even know since they never even brought it out for me. They were pretty rude when we asked about it too, but you know what, it worked out in my favor since I didn’t want to choke down any more garbage food, in that sticky chair without seat padding.

My late night phở craving was satisfied here. After a Christmas party, my friend & I were super hungry and cold so we needed something good phở! This was the only place that was opened so we went to give it a try. We went around 11PM and it was pretty packed inside, but no wait. It was CASHONLY so had to walk across the street to Wells Fargo to get some dolla dolla bills. I ordered the Bun Rieu and it was SO good. Was a good amount, and flavors of the soup was on point. They also had pig blood which is my favorite and gives it a kick. Pretty authentic for my tastebuds, I mean after all it is in Chinatown: D

Love their crab noodles & raw beef salad here! It’s a must! Usually super packed on Friday and Saturday nights after mid night. Get there earlier if you don’t want to wait in line ;)

I’ve eaten here at least over 30 times in my life without incident(and without hesitation) and loved their food but last Wednesday will be my last. I’m asian, have traveled all over the world w/o an incident of food poisoning and have an iron stomach but whatever it was must have been some pretty nasty bacteria I ingested from this restaurant’s Vietnamese Crab Noodle Soup(which is a dish they are known for). In fact, I lost 7 pounds in 36 hours b/c I couldn’t keep anything in my body for more than 10 minutes and had to be next to a restroom at all times. If the food was safe, I would recommend but given this unfortunate experience of mine, I can only forewarn others to eat at their own risk here.

The best banh canh cua i have ever had! I was so enjoyed it. It tastes like vietnamese traditional. 13 $ a bowl –little bit more expensive but it worth it! Only one complain that people work here talk too much, too lound, too noisy and this place is very dirty, old place and smell bad! Only banh canh cua is good ! Everything else just ok!

Time: 8:57pm/58°F intermittent clouds Purpose: Driving along the embarcadero heading for Broadway tunnel. At Columbus/Broadway stoplight that soupy feeling got the best of me. Sunday nights are easy parking spotted parking few doors away. Why not? Ambiance: MC has a counter area resembling a Chinese restaurant set up were roasted pig would be hanging from. Place sits about 34 with various table set up. They even manage to stuff two family table inside. The back has a two door beverage fridge with night velocity fan blowing at high speed. Everywhere you look, you’ll see messy personal belongings and articles strewn through the place. Couple of tear-off calendar hanging in back along with buddhist praying altar. The feels dated from the early ‘80s as red linoleum tile floor are still in use. There are no entertainment of any kind. You sit there quietly slurping away looking at other people while they do the same to you. Staff: Two older ladies base on appearance about late 50s. Both were downright rude and curt. I went in sat myself down repeated tic-toc at least ten times over and over. Now 3 – 4 minutes gone by still no one greeted me. There wasn’t a motion detector near entrance to set off tone. Since no one was there, I YELL out loudly like a mad man«HELLO» anyone here? Short lady pops immediately looking at me with wide eyes. That’s what you get for not greeting me hehehe. Never heard more than 25 words from her during my visit, but with other lady? She has more saliva to fill a tea cup. Blabbering non stop. Cleanliness: Grade D, and yes people a «D». I can’t even remember the last time I handed a D grade out. This place has no care for customers space or making them feel welcome. The beverage fridge in back is fill with plastic bags of all sorts or crap. Walls look greasy and some chairs have sacks of rice stack up. Place just feel icky and sticky. Eats/Drinks: Special phở combo #22 regular size $ 7.65. It’s just a bowl of phở nothing special. Rice noodles were done perfectly, but broth was msg laden. I went ahead added some sriracha and hoisin sauce along with sprouts, mint leaves, jalapeño pepper, and squeeze the life out of lime. Didn’t bother with broth as much. Just left it and finish the rest. For some reason the fish ball had a squeaky sound when chew. The tribe, tendon, brisket and rare flank needed more pieces. I had like 3 – 4 pcs of each for whole bowl. Didn’t enjoy it as much since attitude from workers was a major turn off. Main Features: Korean BBQ short ribs over rice and salty spicy shrimp over rice. Products/Services: Egg rolls, spring rolls, soup, rice noodle, over rice, stir fried noodle, salad, banh mi, Vietnamese coffee, soda lemonade w/salted plum, fresh coconut juice, soy bean milk. Cash only. Punch Lines: Disorganized, lackluster ambiance, kitschy décor, close-together table, harried staff, laid back, claustrophobic-interior, zippy, snooty service, off putting, not as great, go elsewhere, pretentious. Tradeoffs: Vietnam Restaurant a few doors down is shoebox size, but much friendlier and place is cleaner. People come here because VR is at capacity. Final Thoughts: I just knew it wasn’t gonna be a good time to stop in tonight, but like I’ve mention above VR was full. Went ahead took a chance just because and, it backfire on me. Knowing how I was treated prior to going in my expectations were low already. So, it wasn’t like I had high hopes of place. I’ll just end it, as night of confusion.

This place doesn’t look like much from the outside. But the food here is so good. It’s one of those San Francisco hole in the wall joints. & this little gem is well worth trying it out. We order beef chow mien. It was so flavorful and had a good ratio of meat to veggies. The noodles were fresh and not the traditional thick chow mien noodles, they we’re skinnier, almost like a ramen. Will definitely return here soon. && they’re open till 4am, whaaaat !!!

This review is solely base on one menu item: BÁNHCANH. I would not order anything from this restaurant except what was mentioned. The locals took us here and that what they ordered; I followed and Jackpot! The restaurant is really small with open kitchen; somewhat run down, the restroom was small and smelly. Bánh Canh was phenomenal. I normally hate to eat this dish but they have changed my mind completely. It has real chunk of Alaskan crab in there. Yum. Order this and be careful with the neighborhood at night, very dangerous area. On the way there, we saw one guy got beaten pretty bad and his two friends are calling the cops. Apparently, it was a robbery of some sort.

I had the crab noddles soup for $ 12. I would say the price is high if compare to others restaurant around but wait, it’s totally worth your $ 12 bucks. The crab is soft, very flavorful, the noodles n the broth is cooked just right. For a late night done out to beat the SF windy, it’s thumb up. The setting is typically Asian, Chinese restaurant style for Chinatown location. Well, the Chinatown area is mostly cash only so be prepared

I don’t get to come to SF that often, but when I do, I’m usually not around Chinatown so I don’t get to come here as often as I’d like. So when my friend graduated, we decided to come here because she got out pretty late and the perfect opportunity to check this place out again! When I first had their banh canh cua, I thought it was the most amazing thing like ever. that was 3 years ago and I couldn’t wait to come back! This time around, the broth was so thick! Almost to the point of being gummy =(. It was good. but it wasn’t anything great. My thought after eating it again was«I waited all this time for this??» Although the banh canh cua didn’t wow me so much this time around, their bo tai chanh sure did! If you don’t mind eating pretty raw beef, GETTHISSSS

Authentic style Vietnamese restaurant. Every type is covered and you won’t be disappointed. We had Ba Canh Cua And Phở Tai. Honestly, there really isnt anything more to say. It is open until 2am, so even if it is your place to go after a night out, or your lunch or dinner option, it is a must.

Chinatown, San Francisco, CA: Wanted something filling and yet light. Both Satisfying and generous portions. All the necessary accompanying ingredients present in my take out Rare Beef and Beef Balls Phở order. Except napkins. The broth was tasty down to the last drop! Service was friendly and quick. Cash only.

Since our first choice(Brenda’s) had a ridiculous wait, we sadly defaulted to this hole in the wall joint. Food came out extremely fast, as all vietnamese restaurants do. The phở was good, but I still felt like it wasn’t as good as home. In addition, we ordered the cha gio(egg rolls). I really disliked it. TOOMUCHTARO! Really not good, in my opinion. Maybe my standards are too high for a decent restaurant, but I already knew once I entered the restaurant that it wouldn’t be a pleasant experience. Just felt dirty. Anyways, give it a try! I did, but won’t be returning soon.

Get the #21: crab noodle soup! Don’t be scared by the«market price» next to the the banh canh cua menu listing. It was $ 12(inclusive of tax) when I went earlier this week. My dining companion, who LOVES this dish, said he has searched all of San Francisco and Los Angeles for something similar but this is the only restaurant that serves this delicious dish! What’s inside this hearty, big bowl of Vietnamese comfort?: –Flavorful and hot, THICK broth(probably has MSG) –Fat udon noodles(were a bit overcooked and slimy) –Authentic squares of BLOOD cake(EEK! But actually it tasted like tofu to me. Still, it’s not my thing) –Lots and lots of fresh crab chunks! Be sure to order it removed from the shell, otherwise they will bring you the soup with the crab still inside the shells and that’s not fun to disassemble! Being a tiny Chinatown hole in the wall, service and the dining room were very minimal. Worth trying at least once!

Came here with Peter L after an evening of drinking. It was still super early, like 8:30pm, but soup sounded like a great idea. I’d been here years ago and had their Banh canh cua. All I remember was there were pieces of real crab and it was delicious! This time, we ordered: 18. Bun rieu: crab meat tomato with rice noodle soup($ 6.95) Make sure to ask for hot sauce and shrimp paste. Both made the soup more flavorful. And I always like a spicy kick. 22. Phở xe lua: extra large special noodle soup($ 7.95) This was okay. The soup could have had more flavor. Tasted better with lots of sriracha and hoisin sauce. This last experience was okay. Even though I don’t go out clubbing anymore, it’s nice that My Canh is open late for a much needed post dancing meal. I would definitely come back to try the Bahn canh cua again. But I’ll probably pass on the phở next time.

My sister loves this place and requested we drive all the way to sf for the bowl of udon crab noodle soup. To me it was just a regular bowl of soup. The bowl is not pleasing to the eye and we all know that you eat with your eyes first! First sip of the soup and it was very slimy! It’s a lot thicker than what I’m used too and the slimy texture does not help. I think it lacked some seasoning because I had to squeeze in three pieces of lime. Looking at the bowl there was a lot of crab! Which is good for the price! But some of the crab tastes like plastic! So I basically discarded those and only ate the udon noodles. I added a star to this place because of how nice the owners were. It’s a small restaurant that’s opened till 2am! And they do this with a smile on their face. Can’t complain about that!
