Very hard to get hold off via email or phone. I had confirmed the time twice and when our band shows up at the rehearsal space, the owner is out and says he didn’t have us on his calendar. Luckily someone else with a key saw us and let us in and took care of it.

5 stars. Great space, fantastic sound, and in a safe part of town where you won’t get mugged or even worse.(sorry Soma and T-Loin) Great place for rehearsal, I was able to unleash the full volume with my guitar amp to seek the squeeling feedback I like, additionally drums and cymbals could be played loud without any concern. This place is the real deal as far as rehearsal space. Management was also professional and considerate. It can also be a great place to record, they offer recording services and studio musicians for additional fees and can help create a superb demo or even more. Ready to cut an album? They can do it here. The nearby Ocean and fresh air are inspiring and only 15 mins or so from downtown.

this star ranking is relative to other options in san fran for the money. for me it’s a five star because i live blocks away, but the location for most folks is … challenging. that said, the pa is great, lots of gear, the room has windows and is bright [except in the summer … ha] and doesn’t smell as much of man ass as other studios. bottom line, if you’re willing to get your crew to schlep to ocean beach, this is a hidden treasure.

PRICING: I attended Ocean Beach Studio just last weekend with a drummer and another guitarist. I brought my own amp since we live just a few blocks up. We rented the space for 2 hours along with the drum kit and an amp for the other guitarist. $ 20 per hour for the room and $ 5 per hour for each piece of equipment rented. Total cost being $ 60 for 2 hours. This is more than I am accustomed to paying, but very reasonable considering what you’re getting. WHATYOUGET: 1. A large room within a room. The soundproofing is remarkable and the acoustics in the room are excellent. There is also a living room separated by double doors that can be used to take a break. 2. A limited selection of guitar amps were available. The only suitable item to keep up with my Fender Blues Junior 15-watt tube was the Fender Super-60165-watt head+Peavey Half Stack. There were some issues with the head initially where the cable leading to the cab needed to be fumbled around with.(inserting the cable completely into the head would cause silence, removing it slightly would bring back sound, and sometimes a loud squeezing would begin to buildup). When this issue was reported, it was resolved promptly. We were also informed that they were expecting someone to come out and fix up the gear eventually. The tone was not quite what we wanted when paired with our Telecaster but this is understandable as a peavey half stack is not quite appropriate for that sort of rockabilly vibe we like to pretend we can play. 3. A decent drum set. Nothing spectacular. Nothing terrible either. I know little about drums but according to the drummer he would have liked to have seen better heads and cymbals on the kit. All in all, it was more than capable of handling our needs. And we were very satisfied. 4. There are numerous other items you can rent. I can only speak for what I used though. THESTAFF: Friendly and helpful. That’s all I ask. And that’s what I got.

Started communicating with Victor on a wednesday and was able to set up an appointment for a sunday afternoon. He was detailed about what my options were, I was just going to record some drum tracks, and was very patient as I set them up in the room. I played through my songs and after about an hour and a half he gave me a very detailed and thorough rundown of the possibilities available for fine tuning the audio on my recordings. Although I didn’t utilize his services to that capacity, he seemed very knowledgeable and ready to get to work to make them sound their best. Fantastic experience overall and when I need some touch ups done or future recordings I will be going back.

My name is Ciara McAllister and I run a series of rock band workshops for adults here in San Francisco. I have been looking for the perfect venue to suit my needs for many years now. I came across Ocean Beach Studio a few months ago and am completely thrilled. The huge rehearsal room comes equipped with tons of gear, from a grand piano(in tune), a nice PA, drums, guitars, amps, all the way down to the elusive ¼ to 1⁄8 adapter than you can never seem to find when you need it! The place is clean, organized, large, and sits directly across from Ocean Beach. There is not only room to rehearse, but a nice common area with a sink/kitchen so you can take a break from the music if you need to. Victor, the owner, has been incredibly helpful and professional. I hope to be a client for many years to come! As if this wasn’t enough, Ocean Beach Studio is immersed in San Francisco history and has been used for recording and rehearsing for 50 + years! Oh, and the prices… they are incredibly reasonable. Get in and rent your studio time now before there isn’t any left!

This is the ultimate rehearsal space. I’ve played with 3 different bands at this location over the past 3 years and it doesn’t get better than taking a break to chill on the beach between rehearsing sets, or on the patio, or large common area… The rehearsal space itself is tidy, VERY spacious, and with vaulted ceilings… Also recorded drums there for 2 separate albums, and with GREAT results!
