Onyx bar service was provided in the lobby seating area of the Westin St. Francis that faced Union Square. The couches are due for replacement, but since we were partially drunk to begin with getting stuck in the holes made us think about that scene in the Tom Hank’s movie Money Pit. You know the scene where he gets stuck in the carpet wedged in the floor? Priceless! Uh, ahem … So this Onyx bar action, $ 10 White Russians are what I call a vacation splurge and let’s leave it at that. The hotel lobby is way old world and very cool, but like I said the furniture needs some updating, and I got to take a picture of a man’s pug(for the child, she likes them).

Cool area in front of Michael Minna to grab a cocktail we went to Saturday before a dinner in the city. I saw a few people comment on this lounge within Michael Minna, but haven eaten at this restaurant, I feel they should be reviewed separately. I find you can’t really compare a hotel lounge to a 5 star restaurant. :-O Highlights: — Environment: trendy but comfy environment with plush green chairs. I liked the train station like clock hanging from the ceiling. — Basil gimlet martini: amazing! Superb flavors with infused or muddled basil. I don’t know really know how they got em in there but I liked it… a lot! — Better wine list than the other bar in the hotel(Caruso’s) — Linked to Michael Minna – I’m a total foodie so I like that kind of stuff ;-) Lowlights(my flip side to highlights): — Drinks will be a bit spendy. I think my cocktail was $ 15 — They used to have Michael Minna snacks on the menu and I didn’t see them this time Not somewhere to spend a bulk of the evening, but a cool place to stop off if you’re in the area after shopping or before dinner for a nice cocktail or glass of wine. I’d go back for that. 8-)
