The good: — Decent pizza(vegan and vegetarian selection) — Reasonable prices — By the slice available The bad: — Limited seating The questionable: — Super odd hours. Seems like it’s only open at nights, which is understandable, if you’re on Broadway in North Beach. Hint owners, on Sundays, there is something called football. A lot of people watch this thing. These people love pizza. You have a pizzeria. Get the idea? — Right by the hospital. Staff, patients, and visitors eat lunch. Pizza is a solid lunch. You are a pizzeria. Get a clue yet? — Makes me wonder if this is a «front business», look it up you straight edge mofo( )

They’ve changed owners a few months ago. The guy who runs the corner coffee shop, Teddy, is slingin the pies now. The pizza is good, and reasonably priced for a large 3-Topper for $ 18. It’s improved a lot since Teddy reopened it. I think he’s dialed in the product to taste great, crust has a bit of a crisp, sauce is good, topping & cheese are not skimped on. It’s really a 4-Star spot, but deserves a boost from all the bad ratings from the previous owner.

This is NOT pizza. Don’t waste your time or money. Escape From NY is a million times better, which doesn’t say much. Seriously it’s a joke. The worst pizza I’ve ever had!

I’ve attempted to go here to try it four times now and every time they are closed. Once for renovations, once on a holiday(even though no sign was posted) and twice because their hours keep shrinking. It’s down to Mon-Sat 5pm-9pm. Really? If they were smart, they would tap into the Sunday Daytime Golden Gate Park crowd.

1 start means 0. Nasty pizza. Flying Bugs in the parmessan jar. Long wait. Just horrible pizza ever.

The man behind the counter, probably the owner takes my order and doesn’t say anything. I ordered a slice. once the slice is warmed up, he opens the box and shows me the slice and says, ‘I just want to let you know before’. I am startled at the size to it(minuscule) and I ask him if he himself thinks it;s tiny, why is he confident selling it to the point of fearing I’d reject it and not buy it. I was more than starving and didn’t want to walk elsewhere and then wait again, so took it thinking I’ll never return there again. It was insulting. It was the size of one and a half iPhone 4/5, no joke. Then as I’m walking out, I see they sell $ 5 individual pizza’s, odd that he wouldn’t inform me of this choice for 1.25 more. They bought this business recently. They’re Asian so if you’re looking for an Italian mom and pop shop, this isn’t it. I will not return. Only plus is the pizza tasted decent.

I think the place has changed owner soon — it’s now the same as the Sacred Grounds Café. The burger was good, the pizza as well! Good, small, nice local place. It would be great if they served beer and had a bathroom. 3.5 stars.

Nice local pizza place! I just moved into the area and tried their pesto pizza and at $ 6.75 for a personal pie, it was very good. Fresh ingredients and baked on order. I’ll definitely be eating here a lot when I’m too lazy to cook. Check it out!

Today was my first an ONLY time ordering from Panhandle Pizza. I placed my order at 5:55 pm today, and at 8:16 pm, still no delivery! I must insert that it is a Tuesday night and I LIVEONTHEPANHANDLE! In what world should a small pizza delivery on a random Tuesday night take any more than hour, max? I placed my order through the Seamless app, which I’ve had great success with. I received a confirmation email for my order at 6:26(30 minutes after I placed the order!) giving a delivery window of 60 – 75 mins! For every other Seamless order that I’ve placed, I received an email confirmation within 3 – 5 minutes. If I could have cancelled my order and asked for a refund, I would have. I called the restaurant to check in and they said«it was on the way». Of course, as I was writing a review on Seamless, the pizza was delivered… LUKEWARM. I recommended that Seamless remove Panhandle Pizza from their app. The caliber of service(or lack their of) provided by Panhandle Pizza is simply not up to par with the other experiences I’ve had with Seamless, or any other food delivery service for that matter. Hope

The turkey sandwich is not the best, the caesar salad had too much dressing, and no croutons… I preordered 20 mins before and waited another 20 at the restaurant.

Ahh the crust is so good. We had a half cheese, half ham pizza(he gave us one topping free because he was feeling kind so my friends chose ham). I only ate the cheese part and it was melty and delicious. The grease is excessive, the plates are cheap, the décor is… non-existent? I mean it’s a dingy local type of place but the food is good, the tables and chairs are clean, and the service is really, really splendid. It’s near the university so it’s a convenient and affordable place for college-goers. The cheese pizza looks more appetizing in person than in the photos tbh. Also, he gave us all free soft drinks because we were first time customers! yay So yes, ignore the look of the place and try it anyway, the more customers this place gets, the better.

Cornmeal crust. Seriously: none of this single-slice bit(I agree: a waste of time, money, calorie intake). Do ya’self a favor and order a whole cornmeal crust pie. In fact, here, borrow my order: Greedy Dog, no pepperoni, add jalapenos, cornmeal crust, pickup.(Don’t expect delivery. It’s, like, two guys running the place at almost all hours of the day.) Yeah, it’s a bit of a splurge for a pie from someplace as unhipsterfab as this, but when you try it you’ll understand. It’s not NY-style. It’s not Chicago-style. It’s not Napolitano. It’s unapologetically-down-home-tasty-comfort-food-style, and I hope that never changes.

It takes time. Adam Kancerski at work: Panhandle Pizza at work: Took some time but what finally emerged from the kitchen was a turkey sandwich with impressive size and taste. Lettuce, tomato and pickles as usual. Marinara sauce made it better than usual. Cheese and mayo if you are into it. $ 7 and change no matter what you are into. Prepare to spend some time. Prepare to really like your sandwich.

The staff is very nice. Pizza is not very good. It taste like Dominio’s Pizza. There are much better pizza places around.

This place has great pizza and I would love to give them a 3 or 4 if they hadn’t screwed up my credit card transaction and overdrew my account. I went in and scanned a very big menu for the perfect choice until I landed on a pizza sandwich. He informed it was made with sauce, cheese, salami and peppers, on their homemade bread. As I was paying he offered me a soda, I said sure and since he had already put my credit card information in he asked if I had a dollar in cash. I didn’t, so he proceeded to cancel the credit card transaction and ring it up again with the dollar added on. I then ate my pizza sandwhich which turned out to be one of the best things I have ever had. I left that night very pleased. Then over the weekend I get an insufficient funds notice and I check my account to see that the original transaction was never removed. I was charged for two pizza sandwiches and one soda. I have been trying to get ahold of them to get my money back, 7.50 is a lot to a starving student. Sometimes there is no one in there during business hours, and when ordering for delivery or pick up they are often very late. I basically have to walk over to see if anyone is in there before I get my hopes up for pizza. Overall a great place trumped by their incredibly hit or miss service.

Not awful, but I can’t help but wonder how this place stays in business. The pizza doesn’t taste much better than you’d get at a cafeteria, and is light on the cheese. Almost like it was thrown on as an afterthought(see pic). The seating is cramped without much for fun or atmosphere. Bottom line — I find myself just jumping across the Panhandle and hitting EFNY when I want a good slice.

Vegans should be rejoicing in Panhandle Pizza. It’s the only place in the city I’ve found that has real vegan soy cheese pizza. Everywhere else either has non-vegan soy cheese or does a vegan pizza simply with no cheese at all. I agree with a few others that the soy cheese is not 100% fabulous, but it’s equal with the best I’ve had previously(at Stephanie’s Bakery, in San Diego) and is completely passable when you have a pizza craving. I suggest to ask for extra sauce to counterbalance what can be an overly creamy cheese flavor. All the toppings I’ve had have been good, ooo, and they have cilantro, which is a plus(cilantro + red onions + extra sauce = yumm). The crust is totally tasty. Minus one star for closing early on Friday nights(9p when I called this week) and for slower than I’d like delivery(tends to take more like an hour and less like 40 minutes). Many props, though, for remembering who I was even after I didn’t call for a few months(«Are you the red onion and cilantro girl?»). Sure, they probably have caller ID and store previous orders, but I could tell when they guy showed up at my door that he totally remembered me, and wasn’t trying to hide it under a guise of professionalism. Points for humanness. Long story short, sometimes a person wants a tasty pizza delivered to their house. Sometimes, that person is vegan. When those two things are both the case, the right thing to do is to call Panhandle.

I am an easy girl to please when it comes to the bread-tomato sauce-cheese + additional topping combo– My pizza priorities are essentially in that very order. So let’s start: The crust here is not bad, I guess. I’d suggest the cornmeal crust, for that extra crunch. But I want a crust to blow my mind! I want to leave wanting more! I want to dream of it, crave it, yearn for it!!! Unfortunately, I cannot say that this place serves my fantasy crust by any means. The sauce is not my favorite, primarily because it is overpowered by the amount of cheese on top of it. It seems as though altering the sauce to cheese ratio, that is, increasing the sauce and decreasing the cheese, might make a better tasting, higher-scoring pizza. I have only ever ordered pretty run-of-the-mill toppings– I look for and value all things fresh. While my first choice on pizza is always meat, I have had the combo-slice for lunch before, and been pleased. I cannot say that anything stood out to me as being particularly fresh. To discuss some of my over all«likes:» The lunch combo is great– you get a huge slice and a soft drink for around 3.50. Great for students looking to grab something quick and close! The staff is very friendly! I’ve always been of the opinion that mediocre food served with a warm smile deserves acknowledgement. I love supporting my neighborhood, and while it might not be my number one pizza choice, sometimes convenience trumps taste. And on long days in the library, when that hunger pang creeps up on you, a quick trip down the hill to Panhandle Pizza might just do the trick.

Please note that I am not normally one who says«Yay, pizza!» but instead«Is it New York style? Otherwise I’m not eating it.» That being said, I love how Panhandle Pizza makes pizzas with bumps on the bottom of the pizza. It’s like looking at the bottom of a pair of Tod’s shoes! How great is that?! I found myself eating not one, not two, but three slices of Panhandle Pizza for dinner tonight. The testament to good pizza — the girl can’t stop eating them.

Quick pick-up food. I love that their take-out menu says«Pizza buy the slice.» After a long afternoon of grueling interviews, complete with pop quizzes and an SVP who made me feel like a used punching bag, I was feeling tired and depressed. On the way to the Center I dropped in for just one slice of pizza. Past the seating for 16, two men awaited me, one of whom was an owner. As they heated my slice of pepperoni, we talked about stress, life, business, their best day(Bay to Breakers), and the menu. They have Italian dishes besides pizza, like salads, spaghetti, ravioli, shrimp, and chicken. I had thought that they would specialize in vegetarian, because of all the Unilocal reviews that mention it, but there was a good variety of gourmet pizzas. Just $ 3.80 bought me a slice of pepperoni bigger than a whole personal pan pizza from Round Table, and a can of Coke. As I walked into the Center, everyone noticed the tempting smell of the pizza sauce. The crust was firm, the cheese was smooth, the tomato sauce was bright, and the basil and pepper bloomed in my mouth. This was a meal to savor. In a few minutes the fat, carbs, and sugar brought me out of my funk, and I was ready to play a fast round of the Cash Flow Game with some experienced players. By the end of the evening I was buzzing, AND I got OUT of the Rat Race!
