Great sister location to the one in the Castro. Walkable to or from Golden Gate park. Menu changes seasonally for what is ripe. Great wine list and great space upstairs for a little more quiet. Nice fireplace and patio on the street downstairs. Food is great, salads, burgers, pasta, pizza but all more artisanal than diner.

My fiancée lives in this neighborhood and I’ve been trying to find good breakfast spots. 3 weeks ago I walked in at 7:58…doors were open and music was on… and I was asked to «come back when they open» at 8. I found Howard’s up the block and have been going there since, but Howard’s was closed today. I decided to give Park Chow another shot. I went in and sat at the bar where numerous patrons were ordering breakfast, but it was not busy. I didn’t get as much as a hello from the staff, but after 5 minutes a bus boy brought me a menu. I waited 7 more minutes, trying to make eye contact with the staff 5 feet away as they restocked items behind the bar. After 12 minutes with no coffee or even a greeting, I got up and left. Won’t be back for a 3rd try. Menu looks okay but I like a little friendly with my eggs and coffee in the morning.

I’d love to love this restaurant, but then I go back. This is exactly the type place needed in this neighborhood so I keep hoping things will improve. Frankly, Three stars is pushing it for this place. FOOD: The food quality varies incredibly day-to-day, I’ve had some really good food(brunch is likely to be the best: go for the Eggs Benedict or scrambles. But I’ve had some nearly terrible food. I really like the sausage/feta pizza. and the spaghetti & meatballs are pretty darn good due to a very good tomato sauce. The Gotcha: There’s simply no quality control. I once complained about a burger that smelled«off», my server did absolutely nothing about it… . SERVICE: IMHO this is where Chow really fails. Don’t get me wrong, most of the servers are very pleasant, and try to be attentive. But something’s clearly wrong Management? Organizational System? Does the problem start in the Kitchen? Regardless, more often than not I’ve waited upwards of 30 minutes for a meal(after ordering — even when the place was 90 percent empty.) Occasionally, when it finally arrives, it’s clear it’s been sitting around. This thrashing is based on numerous visits and circumstances. I’ve gone at all times of day, sat inside, outside, at the bar and upstairs. ATMOSPHEREETC: The décor is Old-time woody california-style –appropriate for the type food. I personally like this non-fussy, non-trendy atmosphere and it adds to a cozy feel. The upstairs is brighter and cheerier but beware if its a hot day. Great people and dog-watching outside. Noise level is standard for SF. All in all I’d say the ambience is a real plus.

Park Chow is good for a late night bite or an off hour Sunday brunch. Otherwise, the service tends to be atrocious. Then again, you might also become a badass if your job required you to constantly deal with hungry people invading your space to see if they might be important enough to squeeze through for a table. The indoor fireplace(in San Francisco), outdoor heating lamps and retractable roof all remind you of the perks of being an American. You deserve to be as comfortable as you want, whenever you want. Even though the price of real estate has gone up exponentially in this socked in part of town, it continues to be low key. Nobody will judge you if you tie your dogs half chewed leash to a pole, so you can finally get in to relax with a cold beer on tap. They’ll even bring them some water. Now breather. Nice!

I have heard so many great things about this place and everyone I know give them rave reviews. What I first loved was that they make fresh juice. I appreciate a good fresh OJ now and then and this was one of the best! The food and staff was also very nice too. I heard they also have an upstairs area and outdoor area which I have to try next time. What I didn’t like was when I discovered both my water and OJ glasses were dirty… kind of weird. I will try again the next time I am in SF and hopefully won’t have a the same problem.

I went to brunch with my friends here and it looked really interesting from what I saw. I’m just not use to it, but I saw they had two stories where people could sit and my party opted to go upstairs. One thing I liked about upstairs is that they had something like a retractable roof and so if you wanted some sun, you could get some sun, and if you didn’t, you could hide in the shade. I definitely wanted some sun, so I really liked how they had the second floor seating. Their menu is fairly simple and won’t overwhelm you. I tried to get variety compared to what the rest of my table got and so I ended up ordering the organic pork carnitas scramble. When my food came, I thought I got less than the rest of my peers. I was kind of disappointed with the amount I got, but I was still impressed by the presentation and the combination of items in the dish. The service was ok at best. Our server went on break so we got picked up by another guy. He had the entire upstairs to himself and seemed king of overwhelmed. He took a while to bring back our check and everything, but it’s understandable since he was the only server in the area. Definitely wouldn’t mind coming back here again, but I would come back when I’m feeling alright and not super duper hungry.

We love going to eat at Park Chow. The food is always good and healthy with fresh ingredients. We bring our dog Jade and she sits in the patio area. She likes to socialize with the other dogs if they let her. The staff are friendly, but sometimes get so busy that they forget about seating. They really need to hire a person just for busing the tables then people would get seated faster. Overall a great place to eat and enjoy the atmosphere.

Request to be seated upstairs especially on a nice San Francisco day — Tried the Thai Noodle with chicken and Steak as recommend by a regular customer… unfortunately I didn’t find it a hit. I guess this was their take on Thai noodles… linguini noodle replaced the rice noodle… mine lacked flavor. Just bleh. I also ordered the pork wonton… and woah… DONOTGET… this was such miss! My friends from out of town tried the curry noodle and that too lacked some salt… huge disappointment :(. Her hubs had the Chinese chicken salad … I’d stick with the breakfast menu and have some Marion Cakes… not a fan of the other entrees at all.

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner and was seated immediately on the patio upstairs. FOOD: Overpriced and mediocre. This is your typical tradition american food with some fusion items. They serve burgers, sandwiches, noodles/pastas and american entrees. We got the: 1) pot roast($ 18) — small portion for the price. I replaced the mash potato with veggies. The flavoring was okay, pot roast was a tad try and didn’t taste like anything special. 2) Veggie Burger($ 13) — the meat broke apart really easily. But taste wise was pretty good. 3) Pepperoni pizza($ 14) — they bake the pizza inside the little cute bricks stoves. But for $ 14 I rather get my pizza at Blaze/Pieology for less and equal, if not better quality. SERVICE: Very friendly service, but the food came out pretty slow. AMBIANCE: Has a home-y cabin feel to the interior. There’s a bar, fireplace, booths and 1 picnic table! It’s actually really cute. They have plenty of seats upstairs and downstairs. Don’t see myself come back anytime soon with so many other spots to try out in the area.

Came in over the weekend for Mother’s day Brunch and to our surprise there was no wait! We sat out front with our three kids and it was a nice breakfast. Our server was very nice and wished my wife a happy mother’s day. He took our drink orders and followed with our meal order after the drinks were delivered. They were very accommodating and check in on us to see if the heaters were to hot(which they were) so they turned them off for us. We ordered the eggs Benedict, the two egg scramble and a short stack of pan cakes. My kids LOVED the scrambled eggs. They were so soft and fluffy. Its obvious that they cook them over low heat with a lot of butter because they ate them up fast! The home style potatoes were fried perfectly and the pan cake was delicious! After brunch we walked over to golden gate park for an afternoon at the Academy of Sciences.

Excellent service, and food was good but not exceptional. I found my lamb burger too expensive and not super tasty. My friend had the same impression, but after all her dog got very good treatment and we got pampered with the service. We stayed at the brick-wall front patio, covered, and very cozy with the heaters. Not bad for a Sunday night ‘very late lunch’ after all day wandering some areas of San Francisco.

I have come here for brunch and it was great! But then I came here for dinner and I couldn’t believe how small the portions were! There nacho appetizer is definitely an appetizer for one and half people. And their wontons come with FOURWONTONS! Keep your wontons and I will keep my $ 8! #notworthit $ 200 didn’t even fill four people up. Appetizers, drinks and dessert and I still felt like something was missing

Great local classic for brunch. Good spot for groups since the menu has a bit of something for everyone and seating available to handle larger groups. They don’t take reservations so I recommend avoiding peak hours. Service is friendly but can sometimes be slow when they are really busy. Food is tasty but don’t expect to have your mind blown by anything. Whatever you order you’ll be happy with it though.

It had been a while since I had been to Park Chow, but a friend and I decided to go there for an after-work dinner several weeks ago. As the name shows, it is very close to Golden Gate Park, and it has a similar vibe to the Chow on Church St(with its wooden tables and overall casual, chill environment). I had a solid meal that night, starting off with a Boston Cooler(maybe this betrays my NYC origins, but I had never heard of this type of drink before! It involves mixing vanilla ice cream, ginger ale, and shaved almonds). I thought the drink was fine although I found the almonds to be extraneous. Maybe next time I will get a milkshake and keep things more simple? For the main course, I got a seafood linguini that included shrimp, clams, and a nice flavor of garlic and lemon. I didn’t have high expectations for the meal, thinking that it would be underseasoned or somewhat boring, but it turned out to be quite tasty! I also liked that the server was quite attentive, which came in handy as I had a hard time deciding what to eat and needed to her come back several times as I asked her questions and decided what I wanted to drink/order to eat. I would definitely go back again, especially if I’m looking for a no-frills, friendly place to get a meal while I’m in the Inner Sunset.

Short summary: brunch is worth it if you can get in within 30 min(or no wait). lunch was meh. dinner have not tried. Pros: — kid friendly(plenty space, high chair, changing table, 2 bathrooms) — organic, healthy, tasty menu at a reasonable(by SF standard) price — service speedy and friendly staff — location in the heart of inner sunset, next to golden gate park Cons: — parking difficult — wait can get long after 11AM on weekends I have come here at least 5+ times for Sat or Sun brunch. I like to show up around 10AM and usually there is no wait. The upstairs area is actually very nice — can be a little colder in the winter — but the natural lighting gives it a very nice and cozy feel. The breakfast/brunch menu is very simple. Scrambled eggs, quiche, pancakes, huevos rancheros, etc. Two things to understand:(1) the menu is relatively SIMPLE, with minimal choices covering a basic range of brunch items;(2) the portions are not huge, this is not your greasy spoon diner that gives you a 6-egg or 12-egg scramble that will give you a heart attack. Yet, despite that, I quite like the minimalism and how non-greasy and healthy(yet still yummy) the breakfast is. I almost enjoy the fact that the portions aren’t so big I feel like I need to run 10 miles to burn them off. But if you’re a big dude with a giant appetite, you probably will need to order multiple items. I have tried the scrambled eggs and quiche. My husband always gets the huevos rancheros. The food here is nothing unworldly, but they are always made CONSISTENTLYWELL, which is important since breakfast is the first meal of the day and you don’t want to start off the wrong foot by eating burned or undercooked eggs. I only came here once for lunch. I ordered a grilled fish sandwich. The grilled fish had zero flavor. Meeeeh. I’ll stick to the brunch here.

Casual brunch place close by Golden Gate Park! Limited brunch menu but will satisfy your brunch cravings! FOOD: I tried quinoa with mushroom($ 12.50), which came with 2 pouched eggs, veggie on the side, and 3 pieces of toast of your choice. It was a very filling and balanced meal. However, I bit into a few pieces of egg shells — not very tasty. The brunch menu was pretty limited — basically had to pick between eggs and pancakes. SERVICE: Friendly and fast! Only had to wait 5 min to be seated for our party of 5 on a Sunday for brunch! SETTING: There are plenty of interior seating since the place has 2 floors. There are also a few tables on the sidewalk, which would be nice to sit at on a nice sunny day. :) PRICE: Reasonably priced for the sunsets. The dishes costed about $ 10 – 15, depending on the quantity you choose, which I think is nice since you order however much you can eat. OVERALLIMPRESSION: Good brunch spot! Good to keep in mind while in the Sunsets!

For those of you that have eaten at Chow on Church Street, you’ll think that you are experiencing déjà vu when you walk in. The utensils rolled in brown napkins, menu, tables, colors, tone, and even the look of the servers has a very familiar feeling. Service was friendly and very good – just like Church St. But, I thought that the food was better tasting on Church Street. *For example, my coffee tasted like rocket fuel here as opposed to that beautifully brewed cup I enjoy on Church. And, yes – I drank two cups here and appreciated the much needed pick-me-up that followed. *The pepperoni pizza looked a bit smaller here and not as carefully crafted nor as tasty as Church. *My Cobb salad wasn’t as crisp or well-seasoned as I’ve become used to at the other location. The differences are subtle but, to me they were very noticeable. So glad to have another option when needing a «Chow» fix, but I plan on spending more time on Church than 9th Avenue.

Came here last Sunday at noon with five friends. Despite all of the Hot Chocolate 5K/15K runners descending on the restaurant, the wait for a table of six was only 20 or so minutes. Park Chow serves traditional egg-centric breakfast/brunch foods as well as pasta dishes, some with an Asian flair. Ogling at dishes being transported from the kitchen while waiting to be seated, it seemed like noodles were popular so I decided to hunt for that entrée on the menu. Interesting, each of the pasta dishes at Park Chow comes in an «entrée» size and a «medium» size, the medium being one or two bucks cheaper and I’m assuming a little less food. I’ve never encountered such options at any restaurant before so the lack of how much of a size difference it would be was a little confusing, but not one to risk being hungry I chose the larger size. I ordered the Smiling Noodles, which consists of linguine noodles with chicken and shrimp in a ginger-garlic-curry broth for ~$ 15. The broth was very flavorful, and I enjoyed soaking it up with the slice of artisan bread that accompanied the entrée. I ate every last bite of the entrée size portion, so it wasn’t too much food. They have outdoor patio seating outside the front door of the restaurant – where there were multiple adorable dogs! – and also an upstairs patio seating area. I liked the wooden tables and benches and the overall rustic, cozy feel of the restaurant.

I’d eaten here back a few decades and liked it, I think I had something like meatloaf, mashed potatoes – ya know, comfort food. This time it was New Year’s Eve day, my bro came in to pick me up to go to our mom’s and we stopped for lunch at Park Chow, I just wanted simple food since I hadn’t had breakfast. I was surprised at how limited the lunch menu was. I’m diabetic so wanted to keep my carb intake low but wasn’t in the mood for a salad since I’d had a big salad for dinner the night before. Maybe their dinner menu is better. The fish tacos I had were very good(better then the ones I get at Pacific Catch down the street) and filling. Server was friendly and nice.

I wanted to share my experience here because the second time I visited was pretty unique. The first time I came here was with a group of friends after an event at the DeYoung. The atmosphere is a wonderful mixture of warm, cozy, funky, and classy. I love it! Haven’t found a place with comparable décor. Great food, great service. The second time I came here was with two friends. We sat at the bar because we didn’t feel like waiting. Luckily we sat right where the desserts were baked and prepared so the aroma was heavenly! I am vegetarian and wanted something warm and reminiscent of Fall(since it was fall) so I ordered the pasta dish with the squash and veggies. Safe, warm, and tasty was the goal. Can’t go wrong. :) The dish arrived and it was garnished with a leafy herb. Optimistic, I thought it might be parsley, but upon investigation, I discovered it was cilantro! I am one out of many in the human population that finds the cilantro of cilantro very foul. Fortunately in this case I could just pick the garnish off. After removing the garnish, I noticed that the pasta sauce consisted of a leafy herb too. My face dropped. :(I hoped it was parsley. After all, this place was american(traditional) and all about comfort food right? who puts cilantro in comfort food?!? I was hesitant to taste it because of my huge aversion. I had my friend taste-test and she confirmed that yes, unfortunately it was cilantro, and in this case, the pasta was entirely doused with it. :( Usually when I suspect that a restaurant may use cilantro I ask. Usually Mexican food and Thai food warrant the need to ask the waiter whether cilantro is an ingredient. Usually people don’t mix cilantro into pasta dishes, especially for comfort food! On the menu the restaurant had listed most of the significant ingredients of the dish but they did not include cilantro.(!) At the moment that my face dropped the server at the bar noticed. He was very attentive, asking what was wrong and if there was anything he could to to amend the situation. Immediately he said he could take it back and get me something else. It is because of this attentiveness and hospitality(as well as the wonderful, unique, cozy atmosphere) I am giving the restaurant 5 stars. I was very disappointed at the meal because I was STARVING and wanted to eat something hot and warm right away with my friends but I am grateful at how the restaurant handled the situation. I only hope from now on that they include cilantro on the ingredients list because I know I am not the only cilantro averse person out there. I ended up ordering something quick and simple to replace the pasta dish. I wanted to keep up with my friends. I got a warm soup and called it an evening. Thank you Park Chow for having a great wait staff. I can easily see myself returning to Park Chow if I’m with a group looking for a bite after an event at Golden Gate park. I now know that next time I order, I will check to see if there is cilantro.

The ambiance is very deceiving — the menu just isn’t working and it’s a total bummer because the spot is amazing. Food wise I have come here for brunch twice — the options just aren’t there. I tried the veggie scramble, eh nothing I couldn’t have made at home. Also got the quinoa«fall» veggie bowl and added goat cheese and avo — not horrible but if I was a chef running a restaurant would be squash, carrots, sweet potatoe, kale. Not the standard spinach and shrooms to make one of the breakfast staples, an omelette — which they don’t have by the way. Sat next to the loud kitchen both times after we requested an upstairs patio seat, not great customer service, and only has one bathroom. My friend says it’s time to boycott park chow — I would have maybe given them one more chance.

TLDR; Food awesome, service not so much! This place was delicious! We started off with their nachos and our main course was the Fusili. These both were super tasty and were good portions for the price. My only complaint and the reason for 4 stars is the service was not great. We waited 10 – 15 after we were done with our meal to be presented our check. Never checked with us to see how the meal was either.

Easygoing & solid. Service is pretty fast, too. Very family friendly, it’s a true neighborhood joint. There are 2 fireplaces on 2 floors. It’s a cool space. It’s always busy. If you can, try & sit upstairs in the«patio.» It has a cool(metal? plastic?) roof. It’s especially cool when it’s raining. The sound of the raindrops hitting the roof while you nosh on your meal is an experience. It’s great sitting at the counter, too. You’ve got a view of the pies & cakes on display in their cake stands. I love that. All the comfort & classic fare… Pot roast, spaghetti, burgers, etc. After having eaten here several times though, nothing has really quite stood out. Except for the desserts. They’re known for their ginger cake. Do it, w a dollop of ice cream. Solid. 3 stars.

I’ve never been disappointed with my food at Park Chow! The menu options are amazing and everything is extremely delicious, and the food is priced extremely fairly! The only issue I have is that the drinks pricing is a little out of control, and I’m not even talking about alcohol. I’m talking about things like small sized orange juice, tea, and coffee that cost twice as much as they should for the amount provided. Other than that, it’s a very clean and beautiful restaurant in one of the best parts of the city, and I always try to get some of their nachos whenever I roll in the area. I also recommend sitting upstairs, it’s more roomy and relaxed than downstairs, which can get a wee bit cramped.

This place is just a slice of comfort pie to me. I love everything about it. I go here often and everyone I’ve ever brought says they are going back. The food, service, price, menu choices, quality… all really great. I appreciate the organic food effort here, I know anything I order is going to be great quality. Also, I don’t know where they find the servers, but it’s like each server has a genuine kindness about them. Before going to the Botanical Gardens, I stopped by Park Chow for breakfast. I’m not sure if it was because Outside Lands was going on, but I was able to get a table behind the bar. Usually when I pass by, this place is bustling with people on the weekends — so much that it sort of intimated me from going in for fear that I would not get a table(I barely have the patience to wait especially when I’m hungry). Anyway! I checked out their breakfast specials and decided on the biscuits, fried chicken, sausage gravy, and roasted tomato with a glass of fresh OJ. When my plate arrived, I was kind of shocked that there was only one piece of fried chicken(I was envisioning a small mound), but when I cut up the biscuit, chicken and tomato and mixed it lightly together, it was actually just the right amount of each. And that gravy — love that gravy! I could taste the buttery-ness of the biscuit and the flavor of the chicken and tomato, but that gravy made it all come together. I slurped up my OJ along with it, and I was on my way! Service was quick, and he checked in with me here and there. That was just fine with me! Thank you and I will be back!

The 9th Avenue area has so many restaurants so it’s always hard to pick where to go. I haven’t been to Park Chow in ages so I was leaning towards trying it again. On a visual standpoint, Park Chow has a very rustic feel. The floors, the seating, the tables, the bar, literally everything is made from wood. It contributes to a casual, laid-back atmosphere. The patio and front are perfect seating for beautiful days. We had a very late lunch, like 3:30ish PM late, so the place was pretty dead. The menu has a good selection of items. I went with the Local Albacore Tuna Melt. Not bad, but not great either. My fries were crispy, but were not hot. My brother got a pasta dish and those look much more appealing than the sandwiches/burgers so if I were to come here again I’d go for pasta. Besides the meh food another negative factor in our visit was that there were fruit flies flying all around our table and must’ve came from the kitchen. We also noticed a bug crawling along the wall behind us. If I visit again I just hope there are no bugs in my food.

I had to return to my great memory of Park Chow. I used to frequent this place over a decade ago when I spent most my weekends in the city. Signature dishes like smiling noodles, pot roast and ½ chicken with their garlic mashed potatoes and their ginger cake and pumpkin ice cream dessert still can hold their own among all the innovative eating establishments that have emerged over the last two decades although now pricier as they push to stand among the other more nouveau establishments. Jeff the manager was helpful!!! It’s a good place to eat, but I probably won’t re[turn for dinner. Maybe for dessert or brunch. Most dinner entrees are now between $ 18 – 25 which is steep for a casual style café with casual style service. I’ll be back for brunch though…

Brunch on a Monday… The restaurant was pretty empty so seating was not an issue. The brunch menu is really small which should translate into the chefs preparing the meal faster right? No. We ordered and our food took a really long time. When our food arrived no one at my table of 3 thought the food was amazing. Just average breakfast scramble, below average french toast(no crisp fried coating) not hot just warm and the pancakes were good but not WOW, that’s different. I do appreciate the fact that they use organic products. Would’ve been upset if I waited for a table for this not so amazing $ 36 breakfast.

Park Chow is a good place for those who want delicious food that is fresh, somewhat(depending what you order) healthy with portion controlled quantity(i.e., you’re not putting your feed bag on here, it’s smaller portions but good food). The average dinner entry is about $ 15 – 25. Of course you add in the Tax, the Tip and what’s called«SF Mandates» which I think is something customers have no option or say in that is a fee that covers the health insurance of the restaurant employees(on a $ 86 bill we were charged about $ 3.50 for this). Personally, I think if this is the case(not knowing the whole story about what«SF Mandates» I did a google search and found this interesting article: ) the restaurant should just pony up the benefits themselves and just raise their food prices by 4% so it’s not so controversial in the customers face that they’re forced to pay for something they may or may not agree with. Getting back to the food ‘tho… I had the Pot Roast for $ 16, which was very very good. They also allow you to substitute certain items, such as the side dish of mashed potatoes, I opted to go less carbs and get the sauteed spinach, which was perfect! The service is friendly here, and we got seated quickly ‘tho I hear it’s very popular, so if going on a night you anticipate crowds(Fri/Sat/Sun or Holidays) then I’d say call first as with any place. Parking is hit/miss in SF, ‘tho I know the area well and have the ability and patience to walk several blocks without any hesitation, so it’s easy to both find parking and avoid those $ 0.25 for 7 minutes parking meters that produce $ 60+ violation tickets, by getting non-metered legal street parking in the surrounding neighborhood.
