My boyfriend and I stopped by to watch some people open an oyster and we thought it was cool. My bf told me I should try my luck and I did, I found a pretty white pearl. He insisted that I get a setting for it I didn’t want to him to spend too much for a setting so she showed me reasonable priced settings, I didn’t feel pressured at all and walked away happy with my treasure. Thanks for the experience, it was fun. Just keep in mind that you don’t have to buy a setting and you can tell them not to put a hole in it and you can get a setting for it later if you choose.

The Pearl Factory took advantage of our 2 teenage daughters. They made them feel uncomfortable and guilty. They bought the pearl for $ 15 then before they knew how expensive the settings were they had already drilled a hole in the pearl so they could put it in a necklace setting. They started out trying to sell them a necklace setting for $ 999. The«cheapest» one they had was $ 69. It was a tiny setting ½″ across and there was no chain. The girls are so upset they did not just say they wanted the pearl only and wasted all their vacation spending money. I guess it was a good learning experience for them though.

I wish there was a way to give half stars. So in reality I would give this place 3.5STARS! Yesterday night(it’s now Tuesday) so Monday night I ended with a male friend at the pier. I am not a local, so I was pleased, that he took me to Pier 39.(He is a local.) I made the request for a seafood dinner. We walked around the pier for awhile and ate dinner. Yes it was seafood. As we were leaving I was curious if this was the place I had remembered as a child, in Hawaii. It was and I tried to just be a lookie– loo and not fall for the tourist trap. I sort-of remembered being a child and getting a blank oyster, which is rare. It’s only $ 15 bucks and it’s totally random, and there is the possibility that the pearl is worth much more than that. I looked at my companion with hesitation, and he somehow gave me the confidence that this time I wouldn’t get a blank. I told the lady, «Okay, I’ll do it.» Then she gave the tip«look for a small, but chubby one.» It took me a few seconds to realize what she was talking about. After a minute I picked an oyster, and she opened it after a little«ceremony.» It was a bit cheesy, but being with good company made me smile more. I was happy with the pearl; it was a decent small size, round, and with a slightly pink tone. She cleaned it while rubbing it with salt, and then asked how I would more than likely wear it. I replied probably a pendant and in sterling silver. I know she’s a sales lady, but she shows me a leaf in white gold. It would of been a much higher purchases then I would of wanted. So hence the lower stars. So then she showed me/us a little cage pendent where the pearl could be suspended. I like it, and my male companion liked it. The lady still half drilled the pearl so that I could put it on a spoke– pendant at a later time. So yes the purchase may be a little highly priced, but it serves a very sentimental purpose. It currently is around my neck on a simple chain and as I finish this review a few tears fall, for happiness and sadness. I returned home to Los Angeles today, and am no longer in the wonder city of San Francisco. In conclusion it is a unique memento if you can share the experience with good company and can link it to good memories. I will treasure it for a long time. Thank you pearl-lady!

I stopped by the store near the back of Fisherman’s Warf, Space h-5 to be exact. First of all, the sales lady Divina was absolutely amazing! She can explain everything and you will truly believe in magic after you open your own pearl. Stopping by here was the only thing good about my trip to SF. My pearl was HUGE and was this silvery-moon color… I ended up opening 3 pearls in all and purchasing 2 of the gift set that come with an oyster, necklace and pendant for your pearl(an excellent value if you need a gift for your daughter, babysitter etc.) That’s the other great point, you pay $ 15.00 to open an oyster and discover your own pearl… the pearl itself is worth way more not to mention the magic of the experience and the excitement! Definately stop by here if you go to SF… and make sure its the one at H-5(it’s the more fun location!)
