Honest disappointment. Food was okay at best. Server forgot us for awhile so our coffee became cold by the time another server noticed and got us cream. The cream cheese French toast was good but was small portion for the price. I had turkey sandwich with fries which was mediocre– turkey meat looked like luncheon meat you get from the local grocery store. My pops had a version of Denver omelet and that was probably the best dish we had. His eggs were cooked just right and still moist but nothing too memorable. It seems this place is made for locals because people were just hanging out there. Probably would try other brunch joints on Polk street instead.

I ate there two days in a row while staying at the motel. I thought the food was good, though not exceptional. The service was prompt and the waitress was attentive even when busy. The menu is limited yet efficient I had omelets both times, both were good. The coffee was tasty… cost was $ 3.50 and the waitress kept my cup full throughout both meals. The hash browns were just OK, cooked well but bland and a bit oily. The toast was better than most. The space doesn’t have any special character, it’s dated and plain. It’s also very clean. I give it 3 stars instead of 4 because I think it’s over priced for what you get: coffee + omelet = $ 14.50 + tip = damn close to $ 20.00 for a good but basic breakfast for one. Not to mention the cost of gas used when trying to find a parking spot, if you even can. On the other hand, for breakfast they are the only game in the area and they could get away with being not so good. I had one complaint that I did not subtract any points for because I thinks it’s a matter of personal taste. That is, going in as a single person I was directed to sit at the counter, even though there were empty tables. I do not like eating at counters. especially for breakfast. Having all of the commotion and bustle of the waitresses work station right in my face irritates the crap out of me because… I want to chill when I’m eating.

We had the best service we have ever had from a server whose first name we forgot but it begins with a D. She did everything from taking orders to delivering food to busing tables and making the coffee. She worked alone today. I have never seen anyone work so hard and fast and care so much about her customers. The kitchen knocked down the rating we gave our breakfast today. I had the greek omelette(good) but the potatoes were only passable and the english muffin was not toasted but heated. Coffee was good and plentiful. My dining partner did not like her breakfast of a pancake and a poached egg. Neither met her expectations. We will try this again but make some different choices.

The chili con carne omelet was delicious! The waiter was always apologizing though? Almost has you feeling sad for the the only waiter in the place. It was quaint and in a decent location. The price is what you’d expect in SF.

The Eggs Benedict and Biscuits and Gravy were solid. Service was fast and easy. Coffee wasn’t anything to write home about. But we’ll be back for sure to try the French Toast.

My ex boyfriend was a Team in Training coach. He introduced me to fitness and to half-marathons. He also introduced me to Peter D’s many years ago. Diner style breakfast food, this place is solid with basics. This is in a hotel/motel and most people miss it completely admidst all the trendy restos. Yet, this was my after run oasis for many years and this holiday was my post NYE hangover saviour. Eggs, breakfast beef patty and coffee-solid. Crazy busy noon time New Year Day crowd… not surprising. Oldie, but goodie… sorta like me! 2 people, 2 breakfasts, 2 OJs, 2 coffees = $ 30(not including tip)

Peter D’s is a must for any San Franciscan or visitor from out of town. The seating is self serve and some tables are off limits unless you have groups of 5+ most of the time I’ve come here the waitresses were pretty grumpy but the last time I was here, a couple weeks ago, we had a very nice server(didn’t catch his name). This place became a tradition for me and my family to always come here every time we visited SF and let me tell you it doesn’t disappoint. Every time I visit a new breakfast place I always get the French Toast first cause I’m a nut about it and also I think if they’re a dynamo breakfast joint they have to have rockin’ French toast. BTdubs Peter D’s does. The French toast is amazing and so are their pancakes not too dense and so fluffy although they are a little bit of syrup suckers but not too bad so you don’t have to drown them. They have specials also that include Pancakes, eggs and bacon or sausage but if you show up after 11am and order one of the specials you’ll be paying a bit of an up charge to get it. If you live in SF or are just visiting I definitely recommend hitting up Peter D’s!

Great breakfast to start our day of San Fran exploration! Service was excellent and Darlene(think we remembered her name?) helped us with the map and some great directions… thank you! I had burger patty, scrambled eggs and extra crispy hash browns(excellent) and partner had eggs over medium, sausage, and spuds(excellent). Only suggestion would be to butter toast crust to crust… best way for toast! Good coffee too :-)

I live in SF and am baffled why this place is 3.5. It’s a diner — for what it is it’s perfect. Good food, good portions, great service — makes me feel like I’m on a road trip. If you’re looking for comfort food and great service, this place is perfect.

Close to our hotel, walked in due to previous reviews on Unilocal.Super friendly staff! Really good food(specially after the night we had ;) I got the breakfast burrito. Nice size and taste. Prices seem reasonable for San Fransisco. Basically it’s my Australian idea of an American diner :)

Old school American diner with a hometown feel and friendly service. I ordered the eggs benedict and was pleased to see a thick slice of black forest ham on each muffin, along with perfectly cooked poached eggs on top. A great way to start your day in San Francisco!

The portions were decent except that the food was burnt. The response of the waitress, «yeah that looks a little burnt». In the picture you can see it was a lot burnt and they should have given us a new muffin. The staff was not friendly and when we went to split the bill they told us they only do even splits and if we wanted to split on separate cards we needed to tell them when we walked in. Now we know why they call the place Peter D. You will feel like you got petered over.

Classic American fair. This is your typical diner, with the old seating, no AC(man it was hot) and delicious food. And seriously, delicious. It was as charming as you can be(how can you not be charmed when the owner is a 90 year old woman still working in the back.) We were going to go for sandwiches in another spot, but a group of Europeans I was with wanted pancakes, and so, Peter D’s it is. And if you want a breakfast spot, this is it. They do your simple eggs and bacon and, yes, pancakes, but then mix it up with delicious spicy omelets and French Toast with cream cheese in the middle. Game changer. The only real issue is price, because I’m so used to diners being as cheap as they possibly can be and this is not. It’s not overpriced, per say, but it is more expensive than other diners in the city which does mark it off a star. However, if you are in the area, want breakfast and service with a spice, this is totally the place to be.

Quintessential American diner! Loved this place. After spending what seemed like hhhooooouurrsssss(said in extreme whiney voice) queuing elsewhere for brunch, we decided to jump ship somewhere there was no such thing as a line.(WHY do Americans love to stand in a line so much?!). We were greeted with warm smiles, seated straight away and had a few little jokes. The décor has clearly not changed since this place opened but this is exactly what gives it its charm. It was kitsch before kitsch was kitsch. The food was wonderful. I pretty much rolled out of there. It was what Id see as the perfect American breakfast. We split a few dishes– blueberry pancakes(HUGE stack), French toast with syrup, cream, powdered sugar, and CREAMCHEESE inside. Oh. Em. Gee. Aaannnddd… Some crispy bacon on the side, aaanndd some hash(Id no idea what this was but it was immense). Add to this great value, and you’ve got yourself an absolute winner. Boom.

I’m swithering between a 4 and 5 but decided to round up to 5 thanks to the amazing super friendly staff. We were in brunch hell and my friend wanted pancakes. We ended up here — it’s kind of off-putting in its appearance as it looks like a motel diner but the staff were so nice that we gave it a shot. Then I saw that they had French toast stuffed with cream cheese. What the hell?! Yes please. I got that and shared a portion of blueberry pancakes. The portions were massive, the food was indulgent and delicious and the vibe was very relaxed. The bill for four people brunching was about $ 70 but I was I food heaven so that was fine.

Wish I could give this place zero stars! We decided to give it a try since it was right by our hotel and said 50 years of service… service what… CRAP?!? First off the waitress was very rude and didn’t pay much attention as we ordered. As we waiting for our food to come we noticed a cockroach on the mirror behind us. We jumped outta our seats and informed one of the wait staff. She acted shocked and said, «I wonder why that would be over here?! It’s not like the food is here!» Ummm so it should be in the kitchen since there is food in there!!! BARF we all felt sick to our stomach! Few minutes later my mom finds a HAIR in her hashbrowns! Again tell the waitress she says she is gonna go speak to her manager. She comes back and tells us per the manager our meal for my mom’s dish was going to be completely free. Later after adjusting the bill comes back and tells us the manager only took off $ 5 since it was just in the hashbrowns!!! We then told them what about the roach we saw?! They told them nothing they could do about that!!? Umm how about keeping your kitchen clean!!! Seriously stay away from this nasty place. Food isn’t good at all and for the amount of the plates it sooo not worth it. Portions size sucks.

This is a wonderful place for breakfast! I was on business and stopped here completly by accident, I was very pleasantly surprised! I really didn’t want to sit at the bar area and my waiter got that vibe from me so she secretly handed me two menus and told me to tell anyone else I was expecting another! SHEUNDERSTANDSTHESTRUGGLE!!! I had the eggs benny and a black coffee! It was perfect! Just the way I’ve had it at home in Seattle! I will say 90% of the people in here were middle-age, so it has kind of a dennys feel to it, but I’m a weirdo and prefer that I can’t speak for much else, the menu is thorough and has a bit to take in, if I remember correctly they had crepes here too! Over all I think you’ll have a good time! If not, at least you tried

I really wanted to like this place, since it’s nearby, but it just did not meet my expectations. I came here a few days ago with 2 of my friends, and the morning crowd was just starting to pick up. Here are a few things I noticed: 1) They forgot my coffee and I had to ask for it. 2) Burger patty that I ordered came in well done, even though I asked for medium(there was no redness at all) 3) I ordered my egg over-medium, but when it came the yolk was runny and obviously over-easy 4) I ordered wheat toast, but it came in as Rye toast. And lastly, to put the icing on the cake, tip was already included in our bill at a whooping 19%, and tax was charged on this tip! Customers should be able to choose the amount of tip they want to put, especially for a small party. This is a very bizarre practice. If I didn’t inspect the bill I might have added additional tip on top of the included tip. Ben Edelman would have a field day on this place.

Diamond in the rough. Why? because every other breakfast place has a line out the door. This place is great. I live down the street from this spot, and whenever I am craving a hearty breakfast this is my go to. Blueberry pancakes is where it’s at. The other items like omelettes are so so for me. In fact they ran out of avocados the last time I was there, that’s okay all is forgiven. But, like I said earlier, it’s all about the blueberry pancakes. The atmosphere is also what I love. It has that old diner feel and I dig it. My dad used to take me to a spot like this in Oakland all the time when I was a kid, and this place gives me that same feel. I don’t need to eat a gourmet fancy restaurant for breakfast all the time. Just give me my damn two eggs, hash browns, bacon and a short stack of pancakes please. This place does breakfast right, the old school way.
