While I would not call this«A piece of New Orleans in San Francisco», it’s a great venue in a great location. The staff is professional and nice while serving a stiff drink. However, the layout could be modified, which it looks like the they are currently fixing(nice). The sound system is solid and the general overal arrangement of the venue is quite good. It reminds me of the UpTown in Oakland which is one of the better layouts in the bay area. I’m honestly really happy to have this place near my neighborhood. Regardless, it sounds great inside and the size of the venue is perfect on stage and in the audience, which is always a good sign. Even though I haven’t had any interactions with the owner… so what if he pushed past anyone at the show? It’s a show, people do that all the time. If anything, it makes me want to go there because it means the owner actually likes music and it’s not just a profit scheme. It’s like going to a Ramen restaurant and complaining that the owner was slurping their noodles. That’s a good sign if anything. All in all, I look forward to seeing more shows at this venue as it gets off the ground because they’re off to a solid start.

This place is the real deal. A piece of New Orleans in San Francisco. I’ve walked by this nondescript building hundreds of times, not knowing the incredible space within — it’s been used as a secret recording studio for many years just recently opening to the public. Although perhaps not as small and accessible as the original Preservation Hall(where almost all shows are free), this is easily the best jazz club i’ve seen on the west coast: the sound quality and energy of the room is dynamic, and you might even experience some serious floor-stomping and *gasp* dancing!

Still under construction, this hall has a few fixes to take care of but glad to have it open. Cavernous main room with an arched ceiling has a great feel and good acoustics. Bar at the back os the standing room area. Adjacent to the main room are the bar and kitchen. The bar has additional tables and bar stools, some of which allow a view through to the performers on stage. Great for people who like to sit and listen to music. Service was friendly and solicitous, wine was $ 10 and beer $ 5. Food was served, did not see any ordered. The upstairs offers some view seats, another bar and the restrooms. Beware of the bathroom doors, they dont fit well and i almost couldnt get out of the stall! Overall i think this will be a great venue, plently of room and all the employees appear to be working hard to please customers. Loved the preservation hall jazz band, their sound filled the space.

This was my second visit(two nights in a row). Although I saw progress related to the physical space, there were still major issues. The drinks were not priced consistently — ordered same thing 3 times and was charged different amounts each time(4, 5&6)? The owner pushed past customers in the front row to see the band playing and then was incredibly rude to a customer that questioned why he was pushing in front of him. The other staff were friendly, but that experience made me question whether or not I should return. I prefer to support places where I don’t feel gross about the owner benefiting from my patronage. The music was good, but oh well…
