Great local place with inexpensive coffee drinks and giant chunks of comfort cake! A Third Street gem.

I watched the owner handling raw meat this morning and I’m pretty sure that some poor person is going to go in there for a bagel and walk out with some food poisoning…

Road House is a cute little yellow coffeehouse in the middle of the Bayview. I’ve been a customer on and off for the past 4 years. They have an excellent selection of pastries, if you’re so inclined, and they serve bagels and sandwiches. My drink of choice has morphed from a mocha to an americano to a chai latte(sometimes dirty). Their coffee and prices are decent, they have a good chai mix, and they offer almond milk. Unfortunately, service is not always consistent. Some of the girls don’t know how to make certain drinks, and I even watched the owner half-ass(read: lazily) make my dirty chai one morning(and it was tasteless). So I usually ask to have this one person in particular make my drinks, because she seems to be the most knowledgeable and efficient. If you’re in the area and want something sweet and something hot, pop on in before they close in the early afternoon. Oh, and beware that the cup sizes are not what you normally encounter: a small is probably 8 oz., a med. 12 oz., and a large 16 oz.

This was my favorite coffee shop in this area before my experience today. I walked in the clerk was sweeping the floor. I approached the counter to select my choice of cake for myself and a friend, someone else walked in and was acknowledged and served before I was even spoken to and asked what I was going to order. I reacted to what I thought was disrespect and the customer apologized for the clerk who turned out to be the owner which I didn’t accept his apology as she didn’t see any thing wrong. So I took my money and went somewhere else and was treated with respect at the Ritual coffee shop right down the street. Roadhouse doesn’t have to worry about my money anymore thanks for the disservice!

Some of the furniture can be seen as being quite old and worn. Also the house coffee could have been stronger for my taste. Still I rate this 3.5+ stars for being a very nice presence in this neighborhood and giving it a boost as a place for people to come by for coffee and maybe some pastries. It also serves as the one place to sit down and enjoy your coffee with some reading material or your computer.

It’s a great warm place in a sunny neighborhood. There are no complaints and just friendly and happy people. I love going there. It’s also great for doing some work. Not as busy as other coffee shops.

I have lived in the area for 25 years and I decided to go and try out the coffee in the Road House. I ordered a large Soy Latte. This was not only the worst latte I have ever had but I couldn’t believe the size of the cup because the large looks like a small. I’m good I won’t order anymore coffee from this shop.

What a great little coffee shop this is! I liked it the second I walked in — warm, inviting, and cozy(even though it was raining outside). Nice and smiling staff. Big comfy leather chairs to hang out in and read a book, do some work, or have a conversation with an old friend. And, to top it off, you will really like the coffee. I haven’t yet sampled the food and will update this review when I do, but I will say it all looked quite tasty.

Might be the only place to get a parfait in the Bayview. Rather good, filled with the usual but always loved lowfat yogurt, fruit and granola. Enjoyed it with an even better latte. Service was friendly, environment relax worthy, and I walked out with a sandwich for later thinking they definitely deserved four stars. Unfortunately when I got home, despite asking twice to leave them off, there was cheese and mayo on my sandwich. No matter how much I might love everything else, if I have to watch you make my sandwich, I can’t give more than three stars.

Was pleasantly surprised to discover this gem while walking on 3rd St. The service is friendly, coffee is good, and there are plenty of tempting pastries and sandwiches. There’s not a lot of seating, but I was there mid-morning on a weekday, and easily found a comfy chair near the window.

seriously, i love their lattes. i dont know what is going on with them but i forgo my venti latte for their largest size(a grande equivalent). worth it. almost considering getting a medium *and* a small to have more of the tasty goodness.

Love this place! Chatty, friendly staff. Warm ambiance. Comfortable seats. I probably had ten cups of coffee there before I finally gave in to the temptation of the pastries. I had a chocolate pumpkin muffin, which, seriously, 2 months later, I still think about. The coffee doesn’t compare to the best cafes in the City, but it’s solid and there aren’t a lot of options in the Bayview. Give into temptation and get a baked good. They are amazing.

entrée: med coffee(1.70) pros: –warm and toasty hole in the wall 6ish in the chilling morning(+1 star) –one of few drinkeries in the bayview –friendly, competent service by 2 half asleep latinas. –lots of pastries available if one wants one. cons –place is very cramped. easy for bumpings to occur. the half and half is almost directly across from the cashier. –coffee is a little harsh, remedied by more h/h/(2 star) –only 10 «chairs» in this place.

I envy people whose jobs take them out and about in the city everyday. But at least I get a taste of it when I do tree care with FUF. Part of the ritual is meeting at a coffee house at 8:45 on Saturday morning. Today we were in the Bayview, so it promised to be doubly interesting. So what did we find? An adorable, recently remodeled coffee shop mostly full of people on their way to work, like the Comcast cable guys hanging out in the armchairs, and of course our mob of tree volunteers. The staff is all smiles and they make a mean Mexican Chocolate Mocha. I saw a lot of good-looking crumb cakes on the counter, too. Not sure if this would ordinarily get 5 stars, but hey, you caught me in a good mood. And any business in the Bayview deserves a little extra credit. Remeber, this is on 3rd St, so you can ride the T right to it.
