This place is pretty amazing. You think it’s a small clay studio but you keep going further and further back and can see how expansive the place is. The artists who throw here are really talented and I found a lot of unique gifts to bring home for christmas. If you already know a bit about ceramics, you can reserve time for pretty cheap at the studio to do some work. Highly recommend checking this place out. Theirs hours are somewhat strange so maybe make sure to call before making a trek out. But if you’re already in the area, definitely stop by.

Ruby’s is a fantastic environment for ceramic arts. I’ve been a member for about 9 years and joined after visiting many of the other places in SF to take pottery lessons. It was the environment at Ruby’s that intrigued me and I turned out to be right! You’re surrounded by a variety of talented artists, all of whom can’t wait to help you(with pottery or life decisions :)). Great teachers. Fun and creative members. Plenty of kiln space. Go for it!

Been taking classes here for the past few months– wheel-throwing mostly, but also hand-building. The classes are small, up to 10, and you can come in and throw on non-class days as well. I’ve been loving it, the people there are hilarious and welcoming and helpful if you’re a newbie. You get 25 lbs of clay to throw, build, fire, glaze and give away as lumpy xmas gifts. Different teachers cycle through, so every class has a different feel. My only gripe is that you glaze everything at once — so there’s no way to know until after the class is over how yer pieces will turn out. And glazing can just kill a piece. I’ve been to another studio(years ago, east coast) and it was more progressive, so you could learn from your first pieces post-glazing. Sigh. I’ll just have to sign up again for the Jan class.

Really beautiful pieces for sale, especially around the December holidays. I bought a few gifts there last year.

Super cute pottery workshop that throws student gallery shows every once in awhile. I just saw one yesterday and was surprised at the variation and quality of the student’s pieces. Should have bought that bowl I saw! But, I’m a sucker for a metallic glaze and open form. If I lived in the city I’d love to take classes here! As it is, I’m on their mailing list so I can live vicariously through the student shows.

i have taken quite a few classes here and it is a great space with a bevy of eager potters there to help you when you need it. class space is limited though, dont bother with a class if you think this will be a great place to express your inner artist though. its not as easy as it seems. the environment is condusive to learning and if you stick it out you may make the best ashtray or coffe cup you have v=ever seen
