I really like this Safeway, but today I went to get a few things while on my lunch break and it was freezing cold in there. It was like being in a walk in freezer. I felt bad for the elderly people I saw walking around. It made me shorten my trip. Besides the fact they don’t allow cake pick-ups before 4:30pm and it being and icicle in there… its a great Safeway.

You might think every Safeway is the same, but this one sucks. No staff, no carts, long lines, and things are always out of stock.

If you are not mentally unstable you will be when you leave here. You could literally go into this place running and screaming like a crazy person and it would be no big deal. Reasons NOT to come here: 1.) There is always a homeless person you literally almost run over when you pull into the parking lot(and no I still don’t give them anything because they annoy the crap out of me being that forceful) 2.) I have seen 2 fights break out here — it is almost like being on a muni bus — but at least the bus driver kicks out the people who starts the fight. They just have the sans police ask them to go outside — so I end up trapped in the Safeway(AKA insane asylum) until the real police get there — it is not like I am going out that door where the crazy person is yelling«really nice things» 3.) I would pass out if I could get a cart vs. stalking a person to their car and asking them -«can I have that»? 4.) For all the solicitors outside asking me if I am a registered voter when I go in AND then again when I leave — I will always tell them I am illegally here and I can’t read 5.) The lines are almost always 12 minutes long — so people start to get angry — but ghetto uncomfortable angry They get 2 starts — one for the fact I have some good stories about this place now & they don’t allow dogs in here like they use to(I swear it use to be a doggie daycare).

Francisco on Christmas day was the best! My dad was curious to see if there was salted pork, we looked in the meat section and didn’t find it. Then asked Francisco and he told us it was in the meat department and we just decided to walk away because really we didn’t really really needed the salted pork. And then while we were standing at the cashier Francisco shows up with the salted pork, I was floored, now that’s customer service!

The Safeway sucks!!! They always treat me like I’m a shoplifter, like they want to look in my backpack and I tell them to get a warrant. This is highly embarrassing, and I also feel like its discrimination so they really should watch themselves before I do go see a lawyer. What they should do is change security companies because I’ve had the same problem at the Safeway on Market Street. I haven’t shopped liftted anything since I was 6 years old and my mom caught me, she beat my ass so bad I’ll never do it again… I guess I don’t look classy enough to eat groceries and that’s why they gets 0 stars. damn, I guess I have to give it one star or Unilocal won’t let me post.

Veronica at the deli gave me amazing customer service. It’s rare to see someone go above and beyond these days, I thought someone should know…

News flash for the manager. Locking up booze may have reduced shrinkage by a minor % but guessing it’s also reduced sales by significantly more than that. Love, One of the 10 people that have waiting for help in the liquor isle for 15min now. We’re going on page #10 for assistance, help! PS, why do all of the employees page someone for help instead of just helping?

This is the most disgusting grocery store I have ever visited. Rotten vegetables, rotten fruit, out of date eggs, mold on cheese, empty shelves, dirty deli, no manager visible or accessible. Even the employees are disgusted. I will never step foot in this pigsty again, even if I have to pay 10 times the cost for tissues. I have lived in San Francisco for years, and though this store has never been perfect, it is beyond belief now. The Health Department needs to shut this mess down.

I try to avoid shopping here as much as possible. Occasionally, I pick up general staples that are generally less expensive than the other stores I shop at. I have 2 main review: Customer Service is awful(on the phone and in the store). There are ALWAYS long lines no matter what time of day you shop, and the cashiers don’t seem to give a shi. about you. When the cashier walks away to get something(like cigarettes or liquor) he/she takes her time despite that fact that there is a very very long line growing angrier & angrier. Express line? Forget it. People are always making mistakes with their debit/credit cards for some reason(it seems) which holds up the line, especially when customer service needs to be called to verify. Meanwhile, you think of going on another line but they are all backed up. The only time I get in & out of there more quickly is when I use the self-service line(but you can’t use that if you’re also buying wine/liquor. Liquor being locked up: Sometimes this may be the only thing that I want, and I know it’s locked up, so the moment I enter the store, I ask customer service for help at the liquor department, because I know I’ll have to wait. Today is the worst example of what I’m complaining about. I got there and there was another woman(incredibly patient) who told me she was waiting there for 20 minutes after asking 3 separate workers at S/F to open the door so she could finish her shopping. Then I was there another 10 minutes and nobody came. My patience was wearing down and I refused to leave the customer service desk until somebody came with me to the liquor department to open the door with a key. Altogether, it took 45 minutes for someone to come. When the woman got there, I told her how long we were waiting; she said, well there’s nobody here; I looked around and said, I see plenty of people here. Don’t you even care about your customers? In silence she opened the door. Then, instead of my being able to check out, they bring whatever you bought to Customer Service — so that takes extra time. Sometimes you tell the cashier what’s there and they bring back the wrong item and on & on. Today was the worst wait ever, but each time I go there it takes at least 10 minutes for someone to open the door!!! Actually, knowing this, I first went to the S/W on King street to avoid this problem. I should have called first, because my trip was a waste of time. They didn’t even have the 1 item I was looking for which cause me have to go back to this S/W. Whole Foods is a lot more expensive but worth shopping there. They get you in & out of there asap and that’s worth spending more bucks for !!!

Their customer service on the phone is abysmal. All I wanted to check is if they had something in stock before I drove down there. The Asian guy was rude, said its 10:15& No one could help. That’s funny because the King St. store had No issue going to check. What makes this worse, is the prick hung up on me while I was still talking. I don’t want this removed, so I’ll just say he was something that rhymed with a Clude-frass-hother-mucker!

Worst phamacy, could not understand a word the intake assistant was babbling, she told me my insurance wold not«accept«just so she would not have to deal with my order. I have had this prescription now for over a year and thought it would be nice to have my prescription filled while shopping at Safeway. So now I will stay with Wallgreens. Asked the store and General manager for a referral address to complain. I was told to call a telephone #. Absolutely the worst customer service, first customer service representative was Hilda who told me to just call this # and«I’m so sorry that’s all I can do » next, store manager Daniel Campus … So sorry here’s the number you can call. Absolutely nobody wants to take responsibility at this store …

The absolute most horrid grocery shopping experience in the city. The store is perpetually understaffed, understocked and generally a complete mess. Management apparently lacks any ability to gauge the needs of the clientele on any given week — even around holidays — and it’s been like this for years. Then add to that the crazy folks that hang outside the front door harassing customers and«security» that I’ve literally seen argue with management trying to get the security guard to handle a situation, and it’s just an all around unpleasant place to be. There have been times when the stocking, service and level of crazy have been so bad, that I’ve put everything in my basket back, left, and gone to whole foods willing to fork over twice as much money to not have to deal with the foolishness that is this store.

Cassidy working the register was not helpful. I asked to speak to her Manager and after waiting a minute, returns to tell me he is busy working the register and bagging groceries. Then she continues talking on the phone. Extremely unprofessional staffing at this location! The Manager(appears to be Asian descent) apparently approves of such style in running this store. Very disappointed in Safeway. I will take my business to Trader Joes.

I like this Safeway because it’s the closest one to my work. I can purchase Safeway club price items rather than spend $ 40 on lunch at Whole Foods. This Safeway is part of the Potrero Hill«mall» area, which means there’s plenty of parking. The only difficulty is getting out of the parking lot and crossing incoming traffic, some people can be brutal at the same time a homeless person may distract you from traffic… Just keep your eye’s peeled at all times. The Safeway is fully stocked and also full of helpful employees, the only thing I don’t like is the HAIR I FOUND in my sushi… I don’t know about you, clearly mistakes happen but I lost my appetite. Back to the positives, this Safeway is right next to Peet’s and Noah’s bagel :) and Jamba Juice, so if you come here and don’t know what to eat for lunch, these stores are 1 mins away!!!

PROS: + great selection/inventory, especially for everyday items(items I can’t find @ WF) + huge parking areas(2 levels) + mostly friendly staff + close to WF(I usually buy supplies at Safewary, e.g. Charmin Ultra soft toilet paper… better than the recycled TP from WF. Sorry, probably not too environmental of me but have you used the recycled stuff?!) CONS” — difficult to find a shopping carts, esp during shopping prime time — panhandlers everywhere — parking areas can be scary, panhandlers/homeless approaching you at your car

The best thing about this Safeway is probably its size and the fact that there is plenty of parking, which is rare in a city that prides itself to charge car owners an arm and a leg. You’ll get everything you need here — hot food, sushi, soups, even Starbucks. Oh, and there’s a Smashburger right next door. It is, however, located in one of the grungier neighborhoods of this city. Be prepared to run into some really funky folks there.

When I first moved to SF oh so many years ago with my college roomie, this was out Safeway of choice. We could make our purchases and still walk them back home. Great produce area. Clean, safe, reliable. HUGE/MASSIVE private parking lot. Who could ask for anything more?

This SAFEWAY is one of the cleanist I have to admit… And for a Saturday they seem to have a lot of check out lanes open. Basically did my weekly shopping and picked up some ingredients to make a 5 lb maccaroni salad for tomorrow. Been invited to a neighbor’s «tailgate» party in the neighborhood for the SFFORTYNINER Game against Chicago Bears. This person apparently got a new 60″ HDTV. They invited 25 people. Should be fun! Lets go Niners!
