I should have checked Unilocal before going in … I ordered Sushimi and half of the fish was still frozen. The other half had no taste. Miso soup was good, service was fine.

I’d like to take 2 things from 2 previous reviews: Zain H.: «This place doesn’t have ice. That’s the first thing you should know.» Jack R: «I’m thinking of the Midwest. A part of the Midwest where it’s a small town with only one supermarket, maybe 1,000 residents, and a handful of restaurants and stores.» I came here with my friends after a full day of awesome music at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park. We were all super hungry and I was pretty sure that it didn’t really matter what we ate, we were going to love it. Not so true… Most of us ordered a few sushi rolls and they were all very bland. My husband always orders a spicy tuna hand roll wherever he goes(I think one reason is because he knows he won’t have to share this with me since it’s too hard to share a hand roll LOL) and he’s never had one that he didn’t enjoy… until here. The rolls I got were edible but every roll seemed to taste the same and they didn’t have much flavor. One of our friends got a bowl of ramen which looked amazing but he also said it tasted just ok… nothing to write home about. It was a cute restaurant and the staff was friendly but I don’t think I’d come back here for sushi or ramen.

I ordered only two items for take out at 5 pm: mixed tempura app and the crunchy California roll. The tempura was soggy and limpy with hardly any batter on the outside. The roll was okay. When I went to pick up the food, no one was dining there yet. Their timing needs help bc a 20 minute wait for 2 items is just ridiculous.

This place doesn’t have ice. That’s the first thing you should know. Aside from that, the food is amazing. Their Salmon Avocado roll(Alaska?) is great, spicy tuna roll is on point, and sake sashimi is excellent.

I am so glad that I came here! This place was amazing! The quality of the fish was spectacular and the service was even better! It was very fast and I will definitely be coming back here on the regular!

Large portions of sashimi. Friendly staff, because who wants to eat angry dinner hah. Gave me some miso on the house while the chef sliced me up some proper fish.

I order from this place for delivery through Eat24 pretty frequently(I live literally one block away, I should be an Eat24 spokesperson). It usually takes 20 minutes from order confirmation to delivery. Today, after about 40 minutes, I called them for a status check. They seemed a little confused and eventually told me a chef was late and they were making the food now. I, admittedly a little grumpy, accepted their answer and ended the phone call. Ten minutes later, the owner personally shows up with the food in her hands. She apologized profusely and threw in some edamame for free. A good business is not one without a single problem. A good business is one that fixes the problem and goes above and beyond to make the customer happy. And Sapoten did just that! I love Sapoten!

I believe they open at 5:00 versus 4:30 as they don’t pick up the phone until then. Their $ 8.95 ramen specials are very good. Soup base is flavorful and not fatty. I would COME here for a RAMEN. However, their other offerings were disappointing. Tempura was overfried. Sushi was not fresh and avocado overripe. Waitress was ???, never asked what we wanted to drink and a bit too casual.

I ordered the vegetarian ramen and it had no flavor and the noodles were either old or not cooked properly. I also ordered the devil roll which I was really excited for but the tuna seems old and it did not taste right. I ended up spending $ 25 on food I didn’t eat :(

I came here with my family after getting a Groupon for this place, 30 $ for 60 $ with a party of 4 or more. I made reservations just in case it gets busy, but when we came, the place was only half full. We got seated immediately, which was great. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but not so small that you might feel cramped. But it could also be because the place wasn’t packed. The food here doesn’t really stand out from all the other Japanese places in the city. My dad, being a fan of Japanese food, especially sashimi, he didn’t think the place was that great. I thought the food her was pretty good, there wasn’t much for me to complain about. But I’ve definitely had better elsewhere. The service was wonderful! The waitress was super friendly and was patient with our order. We took awhile deciding on what we wanted to order. The atmosphere here was pretty relaxed. Maybe it will be different if we came on a busy day, but from my experience, this place is pretty decent if you’re in the neighborhood and wants some Japanese food.

I’m thinking of the Midwest. A part of the Midwest where it’s a small town with only one supermarket, maybe 1,000 residents, and a handful of restaurants and stores. This is where this Japanese restaurant would survive, because it’s simply not cut out to compete with any decent or great Bay Area Japanese restaurants. First off, you know I hate fake crab in my California roll. This place has that. Secondly, I hate gummy sushi rice. Yup, this place has that too. Thirdly, I hate not having fresh fish, or some decent fish. This places fish tasted stale. Fourth, how do you mess up ramen? Answer: Come here and find out.

Only came here b/c my sis had a coupon that she had to use up. Already knew not to have my expectations too high after looking at Unilocal. Walking in, there were 2 servers that were doing their thang looking at some papers or expenses or something, didn’t even look up to acknowledge us for about… 15 seconds as our party of 3 stood at the door. This isn’t a very long time, and I wasn’t too irked, but just a showing of how service is. The restaurant is pretty small(maybe fits 20 – 25 people?) so you couldn’t have missed us. They don’t accept certificates anymore but honored ours, so phew! If they wouldn’t honor it, I’d probably ask my sister to eat elsewhere. Service: is kinda weird. I mean, we got everything we needed but there were no smiles at all. Not rude. but just. apathetic throughout the whole service? When we were ordering, she didn’t even write down our items(AGAIN, which is completely fine), but she just had a dead look on her face and didn’t even nod or repeat the order to us, and at the end(here’s the kicker), was just like, «That’s it?» Guuuuuuurl. Food: is not BAD and okay for the price. Everything we had was, again, just okay — they didn’t overdo it on the rice and the amount of fish they used in their sushi was fair. Like someone else said, it’s about two notches above buffet sushi — the grade of fish is not the freshest but it’s not the worst either. One of their saving graces was that their avocado was fresh and they didn’t skimp on that. I could see this as a convenient spot if you live in the Outer Richmond, or have a Groupon, and just want to satisfy your sushi craving but definitely not somewhere to go out of your way for.

Come here and you will see that they got new owners. There were two wait persons. The first one that greeted us did not understand the meaning of service. Didn’t ask us what we wanted to drink, no waters, and gave me trouble when I asked about their specials. She responded«you can’t get it! Uh. actually, are you using a coupon?». … Totally random, when I’m not even complaining about the price. My salmon was undercooked and I had to send out back for them to microwave. After 5 minutes, it’s still undercooked. The only saving grace was the other waitress who was very apologetic and checked up on us.

I am not surprised that they got low star. Lower key the decoration, harder it will be appreciated. I bet. We ordered 5 rolls and they are all so good! just pure and true Japanese maki roll. They have perfect portion of rice and filling. For who likes mayo, syrup, sriracha, and all fusion rolls, you might find some rolls they offer blend and boring. I give 5 stars because I appreciate how they treat rice and right amount seasoning. I cannot comment for other type of food though. I guess I try them next time.

I honestly wanted to like this place. I’ve been here once before and I vaguely remembered that the food was okay. But it was way back when so when my friend suggested that we go here for dinner, I agreed. The restaurant is small. It has several table with a small sushi bar at the back. The service was pretty good. The servers constantly checked up on us to see if we were ready to order and to refill our tea. I ended up ordering the yakiudon with chicken, which came with a bowl of miso soup. The miso soup was pretty good. It was very flavorful but not overwhelmingly salty as some restaurants tend to be. The yakiudon came with sliced red peppers, onions, and chicken. I actually regretted ordering the chicken. Mostly because it was filled with tendon and there were even some bones. I felt like I was constantly biting into something unexpected… The sauce was good, but it was overwhelming. Halfway through the dish, I was a little tired of the noodles. My friends ordered a yakisoba with chicken. This was exactly the same as mine. Just with soba. And more noodles. They also ordered a pork tonkotsu ramen, which though I didn’t try, was told that it was bland. The food overall was okay. Since it’s near my place, I might return if I’m lazy about cooking. And if I had a Groupon.

I came here with my family because we had purchased a groupon for it. The groupon said reservations were required so my mom called and they said no, you don’t need reservations. My mom told the woman over the phone that we’d have a party of 5 coming at 7:30 and she just said«oh it might be busy at that time,» and still wouldn’t take our reservation. So we arrived at 7:30 and waited about 15 min for a table, then probably another 20 minutes to order because the waitress kept staring at is and pacing back and forth between the restaurant floor and the counter. And yes… we had to ask for water three times before she finally brought out. My parents had a chicken teriyaki and a salmon teriyaki dinner which was sad and dry. We also ordered four sushi rolls which were just ok if not disappointing. I ordered the power roll which was suppose to be a shrimp tempura roll with raw salmon on top, however it was just soggy batter wrapped in rice. I couldn’t find any shrimp in the batter after dissecting it. I ended up just eating the salmon that came on top. My sister also ordered the tuna poke salad which had no flavor what so ever and it had some weird stringy seaweed in it. Service wasn’t too impressing either. When my moms salmon dish came the waitress reached over the entire 5 foot table to make my mom reach over and grab the huge plate from her when she could’ve easily just taken the time to walk three more feet and place it down on the table. Despite our mediocre dinner, I will be back since I too purchased a groupon for this place and don’t want it to go to waste. Maybe I’ll just stick to the ramen or something.

A not bad, but not stand-out sushi spot. We pretty much only went because a friend from out of town thought it would be nice to buy a Groupon — he just didn’t realize it was so far out in the Richmond. Like REALLY far. Not sure if this was worth the hike all the way out there. and it was basically empty on a Friday night. Then again, not exactly the most happening neighborhood on a Friday night. The happy hour $ 3 sake’s(which gave you probably 5 – 6 shot’s worth of sake) and $ 1 beers(Sapparo I believe) were a good deal. The sign said couldn’t be combined with a Groupon, but they were nice enough let us pay for it on a «separate» bill do we could still pay the happy hour rates! * Miso soup photo: Didn’t actually try this, but here’s a photo anyway! * California roll — 3 stars photo: (Imitation crab meat w/avocado) This was fine, but also the most plain roll we got. * Hot Girl Roll — 3.5 stars photo: (Spicy tuna, asparagus inside, topped w/scallop & spicy sauces) Pretty tasty, just wish it was ACTUALLY spicy! * Mango/tuna/salmon roll(forgot name!) — 3.5 stars photo: Also not bad — wish there was more mango, so the flavor would stand out more! * Lover Roll(Jumbo) — 2.5 stars photo: (Snow crab, unagi, avocado, mango and Tobiko) Meh, not very impressed. The«jumbo» size made each piece really floppy and hard to pick up without it falling apart — also made difficult by the fact that the roll was made pretty loosely. I didn’t the flavors were that great, as the mango and whatever green stuff was inside didn’t taste very fresh. * Dragon Roll — 4 stars photo: (Shrimp Tempura Inside with BBQ Eel & Avocado on top) I really liked this one! Lots of strong flavors, lots of things going on, and the crunch from the shrimp tempura is always great in a roll. * Sapoten Yummy — 3 stars photo: (Deep fried, salmon, tuna, white tuna, hamachi, avocado.) I was most excited about this one and therefore most disappointed. This took a while too(because of the«deep frying», our server said, but I suspect they forgot about this one until we asked). Yes, it has the best presentation. But you could barely tell the roll was deep fried as the breading was SUPER fine. Otherwise the flavors were pretty bland and it just didn’t seem fresh — also, once again, loosely packed so kind of hard to pick up a piece without it falling apart.
