While living in Southern CA and now AZ I donated small amounts to the Save the Redwoods League upon the receipt of the Spring and Fall Bulletins. Each and every time I feel nostalgic wishing they were closer to visit but also thinking more land is being acquired to either directly or indirectly protect the last four percent of the sentinels. The same holds true today as I dropped a donation in the mail after reading«A new era of redwood conservation begins» in the Fall Bulletin. My last visit to the Avenue of the Giants was a year and a half ago. For three days I hiked and photographed various groves in mid-week with very few people around. I surprised several deer or maybe they surprised me? I walked along winding trails with green and lush vegetation and spring flowers. There were fallen giants and stumps from the past along side the straight and true giants. It maybe a stretch to reality or just maybe a story I like to tell but I like to think my first born was conceived while tent camping in Big Basin or was it Big Sur? Whether or not my story is true the redwoods hold fond memories. No plans for a next visit but now that I think about it…
