Overall, the online platform works well.
However, it is painful trying to transfer funds from your Scottrade account to another bank.
In a digital world, where every bank provides online electronic transfers, Scottrade requires a written form to be completed and sent to your local Scottrade office. (Yes folks, a written form.)
Then, in a day or so, your funds will be sent.
To recap: The process is infuriating.

Scottrade’s website is clunky and difficult to navigate. It looks like it’s from 1998. Also the fact that you have to call to get a check to make a withdraw is an anachronism that is hard to fathom. That’s right folks, no online transfers out. I will be closing my account.

I had an IRA account and opened a direct trading account with the ability to borrow on margin, short sell, and long or short option positions. The account opening process was fast. I got the account opened within a day. Funding the account was an easy process. Basically, I’m ready to trade within 48 hours. Customer service was helpful, and to-​the-​point; and I didn’t feel like they are trying hard to sell me anything. The trading platform is simple and got the job done! Thanks.

Been trading years with Scottrade and never have had any issues… Five stars in my book!

I’ve been doing business now for approximately 1 ½ years (after a recommendation from a long time friend who uses them) and I have to tell you, I am duly impressed by the whole organization. From the minute I walk in the door (or if I call) everyone is very eager to please and assist. I usually do wire transfers, and occasionally ask pertinent questions about trading, and they are always patient with me being the not so savvy trader. Today was no different. I not only went in to process a wire transfer, but also to set up checking and a transfer of my previous employer 401k rollover transfer to Scottrade so as to avoid fees and also better manage my retirement portfolio, since I already grew my established ST portfolio by 40% and my Fidelity portfolio was performing «marginally». They (the ST staff) was very patient and very helpful in the process and even offered me a «carrot» of free trades for the considerable sum I was transferring over to my ST account. I can’t speak highly enough of Scottrade and their staff. I highly recommend them if you are considering «getting your feet wet» in investing with this type of firm.

I work at an independent broker/​dealer — and I still use Scottrade!
Essentially, I came to Scottrade because of the cheap trading costs — $ 7/​trade. But their customer service is also excellent. Everytime I open an account, I get a phone call from them asking if I need any help.
I’ve actually never been into a branch — I’d rather deal with robots than people — but it is always good to have that option! I know they have a ton of branches everywhere, so if your the brick and mortar type of person, than Scottrade is also good for you.
My only gripe is their withdrawal options are limited… you cannot do ACH withdrawals. only deposits… what the hell?! I guess they want money coming in and not out. Nevertheless, 5 STARS!

Keane, I feel your pain… we are lame… I need to go out more instead of complaining about ACH transactions…

These guys are cheap, user-​friendly, and responsible. They’ll blow up your phone if you’re being lazy and not tying things up on your end, which is great.

They take ACH transfers now! WOO-​HOO!!!
