What a hidden gem!!! This is a perfect little spot for a small event!!! They are very accommodating (helped move tables & chairs and provided extension cords) and go all out to make sure your event is a success!!! We had a Mardi Gras themed birthday party (we brought on our own food and purchased beer & wine on site) and the party girls name was even featured on the marquee! Cute! Will definitely use them for future parties!!!

Know what the worst thing about this place is? The gawdawfullest worst thing is they have 0% absolutely no respect for the customer. Playing my fave songs of all time #yotaylor from the splitsecond I walk in all throughout my meal and as I leave? What are they trying to do, make my ears joysplode? Give me a hemorrysm? An aneurrhoid? A space invaders? Can’t a man just #sundayfunday and enjoy his food without being uncontrollably hypnotized to get up & dance every second? It’s like someone took everything that’s wrong with businesses nowadays and put it into one — THIS one. Both middle fingers up, muzzafuzzas. What.

This review is for the Second Act Theater
This place is historically The Red Vic theater, which will forever have a special space in my heart where I saw «Beat Street» in church pews with my 2 friends and their self awesome kernel popcorn they served in baskets. Yes Red Vic was dope like that!
Newly renovated, The Second Act theater is a great spot to do a screening for your film. Nice facilities and friendly staff. There is a cute café in the front and there are several I believe pop up food vendors, but my event was at night so these places were not there. So I will def come back to check out these spots. The owners are super cool and have great ideas for these place
Highly recommend you check out Second Act, or consider it if you are looking for an event venue for a screening.

Once you walk into Second Act, you HAVE TO get some Soft Serve Ice Cream at Eatwell Farm’s Ice Box!
Seriously, it’s like a requirement.
And I’m Lactose Intolerant AND «Gluten-​Free (GF)»!
I put «GF» in quotes because their Handmade Waffle Cones are SO worth the «wheat-​cheat».
And the Soft Serve itself is so HEAVY, as in dense, rich & creamy, it is truly a divine indulgence, be it Strawberry, Chocolate, Vanilla OR Swirl: P
Plus it’s all Farm-​Fresh & Pure, so I’m willing to pay a little extra for the high-​quality. The staff is also friendly & efficient, which is like the cherry on top so to speak ;)
PS: Their Apricot Soft Serve Ice Cream Sandwich is AMAZING!!!

This place is great for a snack, light meal, coffee, and overall fun experience. They could use more seating, but I think they’re continuing to improve. All food/​drink offerings are unique, delicious, and in a lovely setting.

Everyone here is super friendly and the products sold are delicious. I love coffee from Neely, and her veggie bagels (salt and pepper, of course) are wonderful. The room to the rear of the space is something to keep your eye on, too – always something neat happening back there!

Walking through the Haight with some friends I came by this place. None of us were sure what it was so obviously we had to check it out. As we walked in we saw it was a little marketplace, just as its name describes, with a few stands selling different things. I actually really like this concept overall. It reminds me of the types of marketplaces I see when I travel to other countries, all kind of selling different things. While my friends hit up the ice cream stand, I tried the piroshkie place. It was really refreshing to see a Russian food stand in the Haight which is mostly taco places and Thai restaurants– or other standard fare. I had the meat piroshkie and a Russian soda– pear flavor I think. Both were awesome. We asked about what else happened in this place and learned that they also have an event space and that do all kinds of cool things like have live bands and such. It’s been a few weeks since we hit this place up but I am looking forward to visiting during an event.

It was sad to see the Red Vic go, and when it closed I was afraid that we would be stuck with yet another Thai restaurant or sandwich shop or head shop, or an overpriced mediocre eatery like those overrunning the Mission. I am so delighted with what they’ve done! Every one of the vendors has delicious, fresh, lovingly crafted fare. The vegetable juice, freshly made on order, is some kind of magical elixer. The mexican chocolate chocolate chip cookies are the antidote to the wholesome healthfulness of a green smoothie. The pierougies will comfort what ails you. It’s a magical wonderland of small bites, and a gorgeous addition to the neighborhood.
I wish they would use the space in back for more lively local events, but it’s still early on.

The piroshki, po’boy and eye opener juice were incredible and the staff was super friendly. The space is a little antiseptic and doesn’t fit in with the upper haight feel but good food and service often trump ambiance in my book.

Super cute space that will hopefully rotate it’s vendors to offer a little more variety. Grabbed a drink at RAW. Tasty but $ 9.50 for apples and strawberries juiced is too much for me.

Onward and upward was the thought running through my head as I realized The Red Vic had closed and morphed into such a cool, neighborhood space.
Think food collective. These young entrepreneurs have a clear vision (3 year lease) and no funds to start up their own spaces for food or drink. Second Act to the rescue!
When I walked by two weeks ago I literally stopped dead in my tracks to check out the exterior of this gorgeous new building.
Cement, iron gates, huge windows. And the aromas. OMG.
I spoke with and tasted most offerings and I was BLOWN AWAY.
First stop, the stall to the right, High Cotton Kitchen serves true bagels, boiled and WOOD fired, yes please! And savory items all day long. Sightglass coffee to boot, this spot alone is worth the visit.
RAW serves juices galore and I spent some time speaking with Elyse Thogerson, the owner, she was awesome and welcoming and answered all my questions.
I chatted with Tammy Tan, owner of Spice Hound. She has over 100 spices and herbs and salts and she serves house made masala chai and sodas, wow.
I really liked the food at AnDa Piroshki. Gorgeous, golden brown pockets of goodness. I tried the Cabbage Ragout (AKA Bunny’s Pleasure)
Cabbage, Carrots, Tomatoes, Garlic and Parsley. $ 4 !!
Sweet tooth? Check out Community Craft, a coop of San Francisco artisan bakers. I had an amazing gluten free cookie for $ 2.
All of San Francisco is changing. Some neighborhoods are changing for the better, some the worse. The Haight still seems to retain the feeling of change while welcoming nice new neighbors like Second Act. I say this is one change for the better of the neighborhood.

Just as soon as I need overpriced juices and cleverly packaged spices that I can buy in bulk at Rainbow for half the cost, I’ll head right over… Yet another rep movie house turned into a mini-​mall for the gotta buy up the cutesey consumer goods crowd. Hope the event space becomes more than a tourist trap with some clever I-​visited-​the– Hippie-​Haight theme. Really miss the Red Vic. Until something truly inventive that merits the Red Vic’s displacement moves in… As Tank would say:
p-​p-​puh-​Pass.

What a wonderful place to have in the Haight. Where else could you go for a quick juice pick me up. Or a great coffee with many treats to choose from at High Cotton. A also the lovliest assortment of spices packaged well and priced even better. This is a unique setting much needed in any neighborhood for meeting friends and eating well especially at High Cotton. Call it lunch or dinner at a great price and so delicious. Well thought out and charming. All of it

Reviewing a marketplace in general is rather odd. I often see it as reviewing a miniature version of a strip mall, condensed into a tiny building with separation walls. Still, it feels so right when the vibe is nailed and Second Act has that going for it in spades.
Whether it’s juice, tarts, or coffee, there’s something for everyone in a space that’s as fresh and inviting as it is. Bright walls and pretty signage, one can certainly feel at home here.
Best of all is its central location — the owners couldn’t have picked a better spot. Now I can just walk down the street and get my fixin’s while waiting for Buffalo Exchange to accept my neon jumpsuits.

everything is organic except for the strawberries bc they aren’t in season right now. i got the «minty pine» (pineapple, apple, and mint) and i HIGHLY recommend it, very sweet, wholesome, and amazing!!! they also make their own almond milk, can’t wait to try it !

There’s something to be said about the dark shade of the exterior, marked by HUGE windows and simple but elegant signage. Second Act. Hands down the best second act I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t help but stand there with drool running down the sides of my open mouth and stare through the windows, surveying the scene. It was a flash — a glimmer, really — into the world of food prep. On one side, a juicer doing her thing… juicing? On the other, a bagel being cut and that wonderful schmear being applied very, VERY generously. What’s this? Story time?
CUT TO: INT. SECOND ACT MARKETPLACE AND EVENTS
I had a little trouble getting through the door. Either the door was a bit sticky or I’m just that weak. It’s a good thing the marketplace has plenty of good food and drink to help with my inability to enter buildings which require physical exertion. The décor resonates with me and the detailing is amazing. Remember those gigantic windows? It looks like that’s the primary light source, and it works, even on a gloomy day. So imagine the venue at night! I’d imagine it’d be a pretty romantic spot.
Speaking of romantic, the shops are clustered together in the front, right as you walk in, so it’s quite an intimate marketplace. From what I’ve tasted, High Cotton Kitchen makes a delicious macchiato, RAW provides veggie and fruit juices that hit the spot, and the piroshki place… yum is all I can say. I hope there will be more seating soon. Oh and another thing: the pricing for the event space is super reasonable. I’m going to have my birthday here and you’re all invited… I’ll definitely be back.

I have been here two times already. I am so in love with this darling marketplace and all of the lovely vendors inside of here. My favorite aspect of this space — is that the owners of the Red Vic — still own it. They’ve just figured out a way to breathe new foodie life into their old venue.
Second Act Marketplace inhabits what once was the classic vintage movie theater the Red Vic. It now has been transformed into a little marketplace with four adorable local food stalls and a small event space (which is still being renovated) — which will house live music, movies, and can be rented out for an extremely reasonable price.
The Raw juice stall here is remarkable. The list of juices is incredible and each one is made on the spot. Spice Hound has a gorgeous array of spices and they make their own sugarless Masala Chai using the raw almond milk from Raw Juice. ADa Piroshki serves up Russia’s specialties made with local ingredients, include piroshki, borscht, and kompot and they have carry a healthy kale salad. Community Craft boasts seven of the best bakers around. From gluten free bread from Bread Srsly, to vegan and raw desserts from Eat Me NatuRaw, to Park Bench (Boulangerie, pain garni), Beauty’s Bagels (wood-​fired bagels from Oakland), Meetinghouse Biscuits, Ebb’s Bakery (cakes, trifles, puddings) and Butter Water Salt Flour (seasonal pies by the slice and whole) and Sweets Simply (gluten-​free cookies). And as you enter the space — you can’t help but be mesmerized by the High Cotton Kitchen retail shop which is overflowing with abundant charm and a locally sourced menu.
I am so proud of San Francisco. I am so proud of the owners of the Red Vic for keeping the integrity of their memorable movie theater and resurrecting it with new touches. I can’t wait for the events that will unfold here. A place where you can get fresh raw juice, raw vegan desserts, unsweetened chai, kale salads, and rice and beans — paired with the Alembic’s beer and wine, and a small private event space is absolutely beyond what’s up.
Trust.

A marketplace with a handful of food vendors. An event space that sized for small performances or gatherings. A small hidden kitchen area. A shared garden in the back. Finally a back door to the Alembic. These are all the things that are open but still developing from the Red Vic movie house space. There are about 4 vendors for eats and they can serve alcohol to a certain point due to the Alembic’s partnered liquor license. Got to preview all of it during a opening party. Lots of goods to be had and it was cool to see in a party like atmosphere with live music to express all the facets of the venue.
