Service Workers’ Acupuncture Project

I started seeing Lauren a few months ago and I should say she’s absolutely magical! I’ve been suffering from my allergies a lot and her services helped me so much. Also, a wonderful atmosphere, great location and Lauren’s tips how to stay healthy make a difference. Not to mention that prices are SUPER affordable. Love her ‘healthy’ newsletters too!

Lauren is so great! I always feel so good after a visit. She’s thoughtful and thorough, and I love that I can now make appointments online. Wish I had time to see her every week!

Lauren is absolutely wonderful. I went to see her for join, muscle inflammation. She a very knowledgable provider and attentive. She provides excellent treatment and ensures you are comfortable and in the right state of mind before she begins the treatment.
During my acupuncture sessions I barely felt the needles she put in my body. She put me to sleep! I woke up more than 60 minutes later feeling relaxed and stress free.
The 17^th and Mission location makes it easy to get to! if it wasn’t because I moved to FL area, I would continue to see Lauren! :)

I’ve worked with Lauren for over a year now and she helped me through conceiving, pregnancy and postpartum struggles. Her treatments and Chinese herb recommendations helped me avoid antidepressants for postpartum depression/​anxiety and I am so grateful for that. Lauren is extremely talented and her treatments have made such a difference in my life and health (and therefore my baby’s life and health too, again such gratitude). She goes above and beyond duty by providing lifestyle and Chinese medicine resources. She listens well and is a wonderful practitioner. SWAP is a cozy, relaxing space with wonderful energy and light. I saw Lauren for about 10 months and if it wasn’t for moving out of the country, I would never have stopped. I have seen several acupuncturists, but have never had as an amazing experience.
As an active runner and a full-​time college student who works part time, Lauren has helped me deal with injuries, energy deficiency, stress management and illness acquired post international travel. Going in for an acupuncture treatment with Lauren is such a treat at the end of my week; her treatments are spot on. Lauren asks many questions before we get started and she performs an overall review before beginning. I’ve been going to SWAP for about 5 – 6 years now, seeing Holly before, and I did not think anyone could do the job that she did but Lauren truly is gifted in the art of acupuncture. The family history issues I see Lauren for are managed with acupuncture and I’m able to avoid prescriptions. The price is unbeatable, her treatments are $ 35. Cherry on top is the heater she turns on over my feet to keep them warm during treatments.

I seriously could write a novel about my amazing acupuncture experiences with Holly. She is amazing! She started treating me last year for a whiplash injury from a car accident. I was really hurt and she nursed my neck back to health.
I have had many out of body experiences with her amazing needles. She touches you and knows where you hurt and knows just where to put the needles. I do not fear them and get a kick out of her finding «just the spot» to melt my aches and pains away.
She is so in tune with my body and just makes me feel so good. Some treatments are very intense and I can actually feel a little wiped out and sore the rest of the day, then the next day it is like magic, a huge breakthrough. Pretty amazing.
The fact that Holly does this at such a reasonable cost is unheard of. She is sooo talented and she is sharing her talents with people who can not generally afford this kind of bodywork. She is caring, funny, kind, smart and most of all she is an amazing acupuncturist. I feel very lucky to have found her.

Holly is really great. She listens, cares and pays attention to what is working and not working. She always makes me feel better both her presence and her acupuncture. I love that even though she works in an another office that charges the full amount she does this for us poor working folk. She rules.

Holly is MAGNIFICENT! I have been treated by her for several years now and I’ve never had a better acupuncturist. She’s really thoughtful, takes out the needles that aren’t quite right, listens to you and your body, and most importantly, makes you feel at ease the whole time. She also explains what she is doing and why, which is great. I treat her as my primary health care person, she knows all that’s going on with me, which really structures our sessions. I love her!
And, the SWAP mission of providing acupuncture to service workers is so important and smart! If you’re looking for some acupuncture, move quickly and get a spot with her! You won’t be sorry!

i am so unbelievably grateful for Holly and SWAP. when i first went to Holly i was new to acupuncture and had no idea what to expect, but i trusted Holly and she never fails. with great grace and humor she takes it all in. she is always looking to make sure you are comfortable and is able to adjust her treatments to exactly how you are that day, including what you can handle and the nuances of life that change from week to week. i found that she was pitch perfect when it came to judging what i could take – more gentle on rough weeks, more challenging on weeks when i could work through stuff and really progress, and constantly checking in to make sure you were doing a-​ok. and it certainly helps that the space is bright and sunny and warm.
acupuncture is often touted in the mainstream medical press as being great for physical ailments – and it is. it’s helped my migraines, minor injuries, digestive issues, and menstrual issues. but what seems to get less attention is the way acupuncture can help with mental health and general well-​being. when i first started with Holly, i was going through some family stuff, completely depressed and anxious. i was seeing a therapist but no matter what progress was made, i still had so much locked in my body. therapy and acupuncture together moved so much more. i found myself often saying to holly at the end of our sessions, ‘come in crying, and leave smiling!’ and it was true time and time again. she helped me navigate those rough months, and i came out the other side stronger and more peaceful.
i’ve moved away, NYC beckoned, and i miss Holly. thankfully she’s referred me to an equally talented and gracious colleague in Brooklyn and after a hiatus from acupuncture, i am remembering how amazing it is at rebuilding a person. i will forever be grateful to Holly for helping bring me back to much higher level of health and vitality. she is a tremendous healer!

I cannot say enough good things about S.W.A.P. and Holly’s work as an acupuncturist! I know Holly through a mutual friend and she told me about this project she was doing providing lower cost acupuncture to people who work in the service industry. I’m a hairstylist and I am on my feet a lot. I’m also a drummer and I like to walk a lot to get around this lovely city of ours. So with all of that and me rounding the corner to 40 in a couple of years, there’s some aches and pains and stresses and strains that need dealing with. So when she told me about S.W.A.P. I was all over it! Although I worried, the old adage «You get what you pay for» came to mind. Thankfully, this is not the case with Holly!
Her work is wonderful. The space is simple, clean and relaxing and able to accommodate more than one patient at a time but still give you a feeling of privacy and relaxation. Holly’s work is less gentle than some acupuncture I’ve had in the past, but not excruciating and much more effective. I started noticing results after my first visit — mainly dealing with some RSI pain I get in my right arm/​wrist — and now it is a weekly ritual for me. It’s beneficial both physically and otherwise, as I’m relaxed and often dozing off during my treatment. The last time I was there she placed a needle in the top of my head — a first for me — and it was utterly amazing! I think I had a bit of an out-​of-​body experienced and felt relaxed and wonderful the whole rest of the day. It’s like her cards say: «You do so much for others, now do something for yourself.» My service worker comrades, do yourself a favor and go see Holly and let her take care of you for a change!
