Are you a gym rat? A triathlete? A cross fit junkie? In shape? How’s your lung capacity? Well, have I got a challenge for you! Drop by a SFUWH practice session for some underwater fun with these seriously nice and shockingly oxygen-efficient folks. I admit, I only participated briefly, until work obligations interfered with practice times, but it was hands down the best workout I have had in ages. They will welcome you and get you into the water to chase a lead puck on the bottom of the pool in no time. Enjoy!

Yes, you will get to kick someone. With big fins. Yes, you might get a bruise or two… and you will want to wear it like a badge of honor. Yes, you will be scrummaging around in the bottom of a swimming pool. Covered in a little bit of Lycra, that is. And hell yeah, it’s a lot of fun. I was on a serious health kick in January, and wanted to learn a sport that isn’t so conventional. I have been a swimmer(loosely speaking) and scuba diving pretty much most my life… so when I saw an ad for SF Underwater hockey, I thought why not? I loved the fact every person I’ve told about my UW Hockey playing thinks I’m a nutter. At the same time they are totally curious… its a super fast sport, but underwater. UW Hockey does itself injustice by being difficult to spectators… but its like bowling, so much more fun whilst being in the moment. The SFUW Hockey group is awesome. They are super social, and have dedicated trainers who will get you up to speed… that includes the basics such as how to snorkel and sink to bottom of the pool. By 2nd session you’d be in the middle of a game and even score goals! My two cents — Underwater Hockey is well worth a try for those aquatically minded. I am definitely still getting a kick out of it:)
