WAIT… WHAT? Shiso’s is CLOSED!!! OMG, I’m totally shocked. This was definitely me and my exes favorite spot almost every weekend from 2008 – 2012. I even had my job hooked on this place! Shiso’s was very unique in away because they not only served Japanese food but they served Chinese as well. Very convenient location on the Mission(Bernal Heights district) and nice intimate small restaurant. What made them irreplaceable was their creative sushi rolls and tasty sashimi. Where else can you throw in a few Chinese dishes with your sushi order? They offered many different types of dishes but my favorite were: ~Sushi rolls especially(California rolls) ~mango prawns ~Fried rice or chow main ~Firework Roll with(Crab and shrimp) They also offered FREE delivery for items over $ 15.00. Like really? I lived in Daly City at the time and they would drive all that way to come deliver me my food and when I got it the food was still steaming hot and fresh! The prices were really reasonable. I would be able to order food for no more than $ 25 and it would serve about 3 people! I’m sure I’ve ordered from them over 100 times and they’ve been very consistently good. There was also an option for you to order food online and have it delivered in a matter of minutes. Talking about amazing and fast customer service? This restaurant definitely had it! I did notice that at the beginning of 2012 they changed management and the food started to taste VERY different but also they cut out a lot of stuff on the menu such as the amazing sushi rolls(my favorite) and they started serving ONLY Chinese no longer Japanese. BOO!(Thumbs down). That was the last time I ordered from them and now to see them close down is SUCH a big disappointment. They definitely had food for everyone to enjoy on the menu. I am very sad to see them close down.

This place is really good. One of my favorite rolls is the dragon roll. And if you’re into spicy, I would try the dynamite roll. Plus, they are not expensive at all! I’ve ordered about 5 rolls every time for under $ 35.

Love Love love ordering from Shiso. It is definitely my go-to spot for ordering take-out. I have never eaten inside the restaurant but I have ordered food for delivery at least 6 times. I usually get the Rainbow Roll with the combo tempora and it never fails. The prices are reasonable which is great because sushi can get expensive(roll portions are a little smaller but still very filling). My food has ALWAYS been delivered within an hour and the order is always correct! You can order online through Eat 24 which is really convenient and they even have pictures of some of the dishes. I haven’t had the Chinese food yet but that will probably be my next order!

I live in Bernal and have been visiting for the last 1o years after being introduced by a colleague. I’m very boring and alternate between two favorites: Chirashi Sashimi and the Nigiri Special. Both are always very fresh and flavorful. They also carry interesting wine that accents the cuisine.

Really good sushi. Loved their San Francisco roll! Prepare everything fresh in an open kitchen. Underpriced and under appreciated hotspot.

Not good at all. Ordered two of the shrimp tempura rolls and the shrimp was not properly cleaned. Both of them still had the line of poop in the shrimp. Disgusting.

Stumbled upon Shiso when visiting my son who lives in Bernal Heights. Being used to the all-you-can-eat Reno sushi, i expected a bigger tab for the high quality meal we enjoyed at Shisho. The Chef’s Special roll, the Dragon(unagi, avocado & crab — yummy!) roll and the Shiso Martini were the best! We ate early and the place wasn’t busy; attentive, if austere service was fine. This little place, which also offers delivery, is well worth a visit either before or after hiking up Bernal Hill!

Update: One of the flat screen TVs has been moved to the back — that’s an improvement :) I used to LOVE this place. But after axing the Chinese menu and adding 2 flat screen TVs to the eating area, it easily loses 2 stars. I miss the kung pao shrimp *tear* Staff are always very, very friendly. I like them a lot. Sushi is quite good, with moderate portions at typical prices. The udon soups are very sub-par here. They don’t flavor them well but instead use a lot of soy-sauce in them, the universal tell sign of a cook that does not flavor correctly. However, the rolls, tea, and miso, rice, and salad are all very decent and I’m always happy with them. I am glad its in the neighborhood though as a half-decent Japanese food place is better than no Japanese food place.

I love this place. The food is always fresh and so tasty. I’m always going for makimono and sake but the miso soup and all the vegetarian are delicious too. The environment and the staff are very friendly and the prices are unbeatable!

I would have loved to try your establishment tonight, but you advertise closing at 11 on both Unilocal and your sign outside and ended up closing at 10 despite your claims. Apparently you don’t need the business. 1 star for false advertisement.

This review is only for the Japanese food — didn’t try any of the Chinese stuff. Maybe I should have, since the people who worked there are clearly Chinese, but oh well. The quality of the fish is okay. The chirashi was relatively inexpensive, which reflected the modest amount of just-okay fish(especially compared to the mountain of rice they gave with it). The seaweed salad is on par with Safeway seaweed salad(or other comparably mediocre seaweed salad). The edamame was cold and unsalted. The miso soup was lukewarm and lacked flavor. But, this place was open until 11pm on a Thursday, service was decently fast, and prices were reasonable. Good for when you’re too late to get to Tataki South, like we were…

This little quarter horse is aiming at being a Grand National champ. Been here ~8 times; each visit it gets better. Grilled squid was excellent. Toro was creamy and unctuous. And they, occasionally, have fresh wasabi.

Today was my first night ordering delivery from here and I would not hesitate to order from here again. This place is probably one of the better Japanese restaurants around the neighborhood and it’s pretty cheap! I have no complaints :)

Decent sushi restaurant in Bernal Heights Walking down Bernal Heights, before going in, I did not have high expectations for this place – I fully expected them to serve mediocre«rolls» that are high on the«fusion» scale while cutting costs by cutting authenticity. Fortunately, this was not the case! The sushi there was large, filled with fish fleshinessity(that’s Right I just INVented that word y’all), and done properly. The sushi pieces were huge, and does not fall apart when picked up by chopsticks. The cali rolls also tasted fresh, and seasoned with the right amount of sesame. The free soup and salad that comes with the combo doesn’t hurt either :) Definitely a pleasant surprise to find this place. Will definitely go back

I’ve been ordering Delivery for almost a year now, probably 8 – 10 times since I live in Bernal Heights. This is really my Go To Japanese fix. I always seem to order the Combination/Shrimp Tempura dinner. Delivery is for the most part always on time and not a problem ordering. Can’t speak for their chinese food but I’m def satisfied with their Japanese.

This is my new favorite Chinese restaurant that delivers. Decent ingredients, not too salty, good portions. Recommended: three crowns with scallions, dragon & phoenix, and their fried rice.

The food is not half bad, but don’t believe it when the food order websites say the food will be delivered within the timeframe(45 – 60 mins). Its 1.5 hours and counting… This ain’t the first time. Irony is I ordered salad, sushi and one hot dish. Heaven forbid if I ordered all cooked dishes! I wouldn’t be eating for hours!

I’m giving three stars because I have always enjoyed the food… usually they had prompt delivery until day. I like that they offer both sushi and Chinese food… and the food is pretty good I have always ordered through eat24hrs and never had an issue. The reason I’m not giving them five stars and will never order from them again is that common courtesy of a restaurant is to call the customer if there will be a long delay. Granted it is raining tonight… which is what made me actually wait the two hours but finally had to cancel the order. I guess if you are tired from a long week on a Friday night and don’t feel like cooking for your family this place is not the place to order from…
