We hosted a private party at Slate and it was awesome! Patricia was easy to work with and all the staff performed very well. We had over 100 people for the party which was an ideal size for the venue. Will definitely host another party there again!

Slate Bar was an awesome venue and Patty and her staff were amazing to work with. The space can fit 200 people but still felt intimate with our group of about 45. The bar is a good size, there is a pool table, dance floor, gated smoking section so you can bring your drink and there is a window that allows you to order food from the restaurant next door. So they really had everything we wanted and then some. They let us decorate and change the names of some of their specialty drinks to match our theme and the staff had a really good time with it. Patty even set it up to have their house DJ come an hour early to spin the last hour of our party. Great place and a great night, would definitely do an event there again!

If you’re looking for a place to dance, and not be elbow to elbow — then you’ll enjoy yourself. The music was all hip hop and it seemed the DJ was only appealing to his friends dancing around the his booth. Got there around 11 and no cover. Pool table in the back.

I’ve had my birthday here for the past two years and it’s always been a tremendous success. Patty is an incredible host and the staff is wonderful. Thank you for helping me host such an amazing party!

This review will be on the short side because there wasn’t much to review on due to the lack of excitement happening here. Ok so either this bar really sucks or I just came on the wrong night(which was a week day). There was hardly anyone in here, one person at the bar, one pool table with 2 – 4 people, and a random person at the DJ stand who was trying to hype up a crowd that clearly was non existent that night. The bartender looked lost and almost tried in every way possible to avoid serving us. He gave us a quick hello and that was that. The area looks like it would have been a decent place but clearly we weren’t feeling it. Like I said, maybe it was the day of the week, the area that it is in(mission isn’t so great) or the people working there. Very awkward 5 minutes there — so it was off to the next location!

With Trivia on Wednesdays, Dance Karaōke on Thursdays, happy hour til 9, the pro pool table, and delicious food through the window, this has become my «corner bar» even though it’s not on the corner and I live in West Oakland lol. The bartenders are on the ball and always ready for fun conversation, and I like that the entertainment they provide draws people of all ages. I’ve never felt uncomfortable or out of place here, and I’ve always left with a perfect buzz in time to get the train back to the east bay. Being from the east coast, to have a bar in SF where«everybody knows your name» is a gift I truly treasure!

UPDATE: Patty is right, mistakes happen. Patty kindly reached out to me offering to clear things up and host us for dinner. I was touched that they reached out in an authentic and personal manner, no dinner required — we all screw up. No more rats!

This place is everything that’s wrong with San Francisco and the mission in 2016. The crowd is a bunch of insufferable bearded hipsters and dorks in startup t-shirts. The food is overpriced and weird for the sake of being weird. The portions are tiny. The bartender is rude and condescending. You know what would fix this place? A fire with the doors chained shut on a crowded night.

Good things to know about Slate Bar: –the bar is super spacious so there’s a lot of legroom to move around. no more butt to butt crowdedness –there’s TVs around the bar so you can watch the game –there’s a pool table i believe –the music is always bumpin’! i think they have karaōke night on thursdays for those who are drunk and want to belt their hearts out –the drinks are made with love and care –HAPPYHOURSEVERYDAYARE5 – 9PMWUTWUT I think a restaurant opened next door recently and it’s with the same owner. I still have yet to try it, but it’s cool that you have that option. Shoutout to the asian lady bartender, Angel, for being so friendly to us and making us amazing drinks!!!

Was invited to a friends birthday here. Cold, rainy night in the City and we headed over at 9pm. Unfortunately, despite the bar being far from at capacity, Slate decided to use us as free marketing and make us stand in the rain in «line.» During this time, several people walked out of the venue and yet we were not let in. Slate, in the future, please invest in proper marketing and do not punish your loyal patrons.

Cool venue but SHITTYBARTENDERS The lady bartender was incredibly rude to me. And to top it off, she charged me double the price I was supposed to pay! It was a pretty busy Saturday night, I get there comes frustration from the rush of people. But no need to be rude that I want to order a drink… and still pissed they charged me over.

I came here for a mini reunion with some high school friends. We were there around 8:30 and we all noticed they had happy hour prices which is awesome since it was a Saturday. We all ordered two drinks just before 9:00 to get in our orders before happy hour ended. I left my tab open and when I went to close it later in the night my tab showed full price drinks. The bartender was rude when I confronted him about the bill. He said I must not have ordered before 9:00 and made me feel like I was a liar. I thought the bar itself was nice which is why I’m giving two stars, but it sucks that a bartender had to put a damper on my night.

Imagine, if you will that you have been best friends with a lady since 5th grade. Imagine that she wants to have her special pre-wedding karaōke night with Dj purple. Imagine showing up, fresh faced and excited about what the night has to offer. You put in a song, and then you wait. And wait. And you want to have fun, so yer drinking. And then you have to pee. And you think to yourself, I’ve been waiting so long, there’s no way he’ll call me in the time it takes me to pee. And then you go. And as you are coming out, you hear your name. You rush to the front, excited to sing for your friends, but you find that in the time it has taken you to walk the 20 feet from the back of the bar, you have been SKIPPED. You try and nicely signal the Dj, he won’t even acknowledge you and asks you to write a note. You read his detailed, specific instructions about how to write a note. You follow them. You see that since you followed his instructions about putting your full name on the song request, your entire full name is now displayed to the bar on several video monitors. You wait. Many other songs pass. You continue to wait. Since the Dj won’t acknowledge you, you write him impassioned notes, begging him to at least take your name off the TV monitors that everyone can see. You wait. Your bff since you were tiny who you have driven up to SF to see get married leaves because she’s tired. She’s the only reason you are in this city, let alone this bar. All your friends leave, you are alone. You decide to close out your tab. You are waiting for the bartender to acknowledge you when the karaōke dude calls your name. You sing your song, but there is NOONE you know anywhere in the bar. Your best friend missed you singing, because I guess the Dj felt the need to make you feel bad? How would you feel? Would you continue to patronize this establishment?

Nice bar, showed up in the early evening when it was still in chill neighborhood bar mode. Sad that there were only three taps only though, but at least one of them was Game Of Thrones.

I LOVETHISPLACE. My friend did her bartending training here and practiced a couple nights, where we got to hang out. The bartenders are super nice and go out of the way to make your drink pretty and very alcoholic. The drinks are pretty pricy($ 10 per) but the beer is cheap around happy hour. The ambiance is also nice, there’s some pool tables and good music to chill to – not many opportunities to dance(during the weekdays, at least), but overall it’s a cool place!

Tequila infused with jalapenos. I think that I drank/bought the whole bottle which is not an exaggeration. You paired this with grapefruit and soda water, I believe. Possibly simple syrup. If you could share the recipe that would be excellent. All staff were great. Bartenders make excellent cocktails. I played pool, watched NBA Finals, and sang karaōke. I also smoked a cigarette on your semi outdoor patio area. I got first song of the night with Led Zepplin Immigrant Song. The place was incredible fun. Cheers and salute.

This is a great bar with a good pool table and skilled bartenders, but it’s f’in magnificent when DJ Purple’s Dance Karaōke show is there Thursday nights. The crowd is amazingly energetic and the music and pyrotechnics(whoosh!) are bangin’. About 20 of us were there for a friend’s birthday party a couple of weeks ago and we had a blast. DJ Purple’s show had everybody dancing and there were some awesome singers really putting it out there. I put some pictures up to prove it. This is not a show you want to miss.

A couple of friends and I threw a private event here last Saturday and everything was perfect! — Patty(the owner/manager/bartender/Jill-of-all-trades) is a baller. She’s incredibly responsive, efficient, and was key in everything going off without a hitch(even when we threw her a curveball last minute and asked to run the guest list off the Eventbrite Neon on an iPad) — The space is really well apportioned for appealing to a wide range of partygoers. It’s thoughtfully and loosely sectioned off: there’s a spacious dance floor in front of a sick DJ booth, a fairly well-lit pool table in back, fenced-off smoking area out front, a long bar along the whole side, and tons of low leather seating along the edges of the venue. — Patty and the whole crew were super accommodating of our need to fill the place with decorations! Setup was smooth(if laborious from the million of hanging decorations we set up) and she was around the whole time taking care of setup on her end. And a big thank you to Danny the bar manager for concocting a delicious drink menu to match the theme. Slate has such a fantastic vibe and I’m so glad we found it for the event! It’s well-put-together but not too fancy, comfortable but not too divey or kitschy, sleek but not slick. Loved it and can’t wait to go back.

If you want to throw a party, Slate is place to do it. This space is part of SF history. From liquid, to pink, to som bar… but slate is by far my favorite bar in this space. My friend and I have thrown two parties there now and both have been epic and awesome. Patty and Daniel are great to work with and make everything run smoothly. The sound system is on point. Our friends who DJ’d, made magic and our friends who danced, did it all night. The bar menu is on point too. Patty and Daniel let us pick from their cocktail menu to make signature drinks for the evening. And all of them were great. I love throwing parties here and will keep doing because Patty and Daniel make slate amazing. Thanks so much guys!

Came on a Saturday night where they play 80s/90s music. We got there around 1045pm so there was a $ 5 cover fee. There’s only two bartenders who are Pretty slow at making drinks and taking orders. You literally have to wave them down but they get so angry. I had a tequila sunrise which was HORRIBLE! First of all how do you forget the grenadine? Also it was way too much tequila. Instead of making a new one he just put a splash of grenadine… the drink was not worth it. Next a friend had henn and coke… Way too much Hennessy. They need to learn how to make drinks or stop rushing it. I liked that there’s a dance floor but damn does it get hot. They need more ventilation. Place is nice but I would never go back for drinks.
