Solo Salon

I started by doing a search for haircuts for males in my neighborhood. Having read all the available reviews of this Salon on this site, I walked in without an appointment. I was immediately directed to Leslie, who gave me the best haircut I’ve had in years (I had been shooting for the cheapest for the past 10 years, but my wife got fed up with this tactic and finally told me to do better).
Well, I (or, rather, Leslie) did. We had a wonderful talk about the Philippines, where Leslie is from and where I had served whilst on active duty at Clark Air Base during Operation Homecoming (bring our Viet Nam POWs back from Hanoi). The volcano got Clark but Leslie lives in San Francisco now. So we had a chance to talk over old times. We also talked about the fact that «Filipino» is the name of a culture, but «Togalog» is the name of a language, no matter what the people who run the Elections have decided to call it. Anyway, we had a great talk and the time went comfortably and quickly. It felt like I’d come home again and I can enthusiastically recommend this Salon and Leslie. By the way, I saw women and kids being cared for there and all seemed pleased. The shop is small but average for its location and supports at least three chairs without feeling crowded, chaotic, or loud.

Cute little salon with lots of products for sale. Patsy was wonderful, very attentive and listening to exactly what I wanted. We talked over different styles and colors together and overall I’m very happy with the end result. Price was «reasonable» for San Francisco… I have shoulder-​length hair and did an all-​over color and cut for $ 135. I’ll be coming back!

Leslie is fantastic. I go. Now my youngest son goes. Then he referred his grandmother. Leslie must know a lot about our family by now! :-)

This place kicks ass.
3 different stylists have cut my hair over the few years and done an excellent job; every time.
I almost hate to share how great this place in that it’ll get too busy there; right now I just drop in and EVERY time I get a cut within 5 minutes. No exceptions to that in years and ALWAYS a great cut.
The people complaining about this place have a history of posting bad ratings about known great places, so there you go. :)

Patty is awesome!!! She has been cutting our hair for a while and my teens and I just love the advice and recommendations she and Leslie are always willing to give. Great fun salon.

The jump to $ 25 for a kid’s haircut is one thing.
Informing a regular customer only AFTER the cut is unacceptable.

Just got my hair cut by Chinine and I absolutely LOVE it. I have never had any one cut my hair so intuitively! Seriously my hair is thin wavy/​curly and is pretty tricky to cut. I am always reluctant to get it cut because i feel it always looks limp and 1 dimensional. I am not sure what she did but whatever she did is magical because my hair seams thicker and curlier which is how I like it. She took her time and created layers and it look so healthy and thickn. Now I am actually enjoying wearing down and not always sticking it up in a silly bun! Thank you!

Since I moved to San Francisco over 7 years ago, Tatiana has been my stylist. I always get compliments on my hair cut and color. She is the best! I’m happy to see her at Solo Salon as it’s a very hip place. The atmosphere is relaxed and everyone is really friendly. I actually look forward to my appointment times since its just a lot of fun. The owner has done a phenomenal job with the décor — it’s soo San Francisco.

I’ve been going to Leslie for color and styling for years. I’d follow her anywhere! Im glad though that she’s now at Solo. Cute, friendly, relaxed place. Great location.

Got a haircut over the weekend. I had decided on Saturday that I HAD to get a cut. I Unilocaled quite meticulously, as no haircut I’ve had in SF has particularly wowed me. I ended up choosing this place, mostly since they had space and it was right by my location at that point.
The salon is small, but bigger than it appears when you first walk in. There’s actually four chairs and a small washing station. The floor is really cool. More importantly though, Yvonne gave me a great cut. Since I’m now working and not in grad school anymore, I decided that I had to have my former graduated bob. It came out great, Yvonne was detailed with her cutting. I’m really happy and will keep going to her. Even my sister, the perfectionist, liked it.

I have never just let anybody do my hair. My hair is one of my best features. I have a few friends who told me to let Yvonne do my hair so, I decided to give her a try WOW!!! So glad I did she is AMAZING she gets in a zone, as she touches your hair, the artist in her comes out. I love the new SOLO SALON. I love that it’s a little on the old fashion side where you get your hair washed and its included in the haircut. And I love that it’s also modern in look and the involvement of local artist work displayed on the walls.

I had an okay experience here the first time I went, but the second time not so much. Major miscommunication, bad haircut, and a cut that was magically almost twice as expensive as it was the first time ($ 60 instead of $ 35). For that price, I can do way better. But more importantly, although I calmly stated the reasons I wasn’t 100% happy with the cut, I got no apology from the stylist. Instead, she just made excuses.
When will people learn how far simply listening and being respectful will go?
I’m not going to bash any specific person or give a lot of specifics, because I know this place is relatively new, but they’ve definitely lost me as a customer. Major fail.

My visit to Solo Salon was one of the best hair experiences I’ve ever had and the reason I say that is this: my hair looked good post-​workout. I kid you not, Unilocal readers, this lady is good. I went to see Yvonne (spelling?) And I was pleasantly surprised by my spur of the moment decision. I was walking with a friend and saw the salon. I was immediately attracted to the modern decorations and the general vibe of the salon. My hair, after suffering a few mishaps with dye jobs from CVS (yikes), was pretty damaged. I asked if she could fix my color and give me a trim. The color that she used was not damaging at all. In fact, I think my hair looks more healthy now. Apparently, the color that she used fused my split ends to my hair or something. I’m not sure of all the details because I was admiring my new style in the mirror, but the difference is significant. She was so funny and sweet I don’t think I would go to someone else from here on out. Great experience, cute salon, and friendly people. C’mon. No questions needed. :)

I just received a friendly and very well executed haircut from Leslie. I’m holding back on one star since $ 30 is at the upper end of what I’d normally pay for a haircut even in Noe Valley especially since I don’t have that much hair (but still enough to notice a bad cut when I see one… cough. Hot Headz). So for now I’m sure I’ll return when I need the convenience of a salon just around the corner.

Leslie and Patty opened this cozy two-​chair shop just two weeks ago and already word is spreading. Leslie, who had a devoted clientele when she was at Hot Headz just up the street, is a wizard with the scissors and stays on top of hair trends. Ask her for a graduated bob or side swept bangs and she not only knows what you mean, but can execute it perfectly. I’ve always worn my hair in a bob and in all my years, nobody has ever done it better than Leslie. For $ 28 I get a cut worthy of a salon that will charge three times that price. For many years she was the only reason most people would step foot in Hot Headz. Now that she and Patty are gone – don’t bother. Nobody left but Bitter Dan, the Hair Butcher of Noe Valley. He gave my daughter a cut so hideous that she cried for a week and wore a hat for 2 months until it was long enough to restyle.
