Spotlight and Shine Salon

I dont know the history of this place, whether it closed and reopened, or it has switched owners, or if its a new place and the old sign hasn’t been removed, but I randomly stumbled upon this joint while walking the streets of Polk for a new barber shop closer to home. The 8 ½ X11 sheet of paper said «Grand Opening: $ 10 Hair cut». I thought I’d give it a shot because it was cheap and If she messed me up… my hair will grow back. At any rate, I was THOROUGHLY impressed. Jade is an old asian lady that doesnt speak much english, but I pointed to a poster of what type of fade I wanted, and she HOOKED me up within 20 minutes. She lined me up and everything. I cant comment on other types of hair cuts, but If you’re looking for a great, inexpensive, fast fade, this place is definitely a good place to go.

Unfortunately, as of recently, Amy has closed the Salon. SAD!

I recently moved to San Francisco a little over a month ago and knew one of my searches would be for a new place to get my eyebrows waxed. I am pretty picky about it and my eyebrows are pretty huge naturally so I don’t bother even trying to pluck them.
I was walking around Polk street one day and stumbled upon a sign saying that Spotlight and Shine did eyebrows for $ 8. That’s less than half what I used to pay back home. I was skeptical, but also desperate so I decided to give them a chance.
I used to go to some fancy salon and was used to the typical fancy salon environment. This salon is not very fancy and the waxing chair is in a back corner next to a cluttered bookcase that you are somewhat pressed up against. From the first moment I walked in they were all very friendly… She did my eyebrows quickly and efficiently and did an AWESOME job. It’s not necessarily a relaxing comfortable and esthetically pleasing experience, but the job was done for less than half the price I used to pay and done well.
I have gone back two more times and go in half to get my brows waxed and half for friendly conversation and advice about the city and upcoming events!
My days at fancy salons for brow waxing are over!!!
If you are looking for a cheap and awesome brow wax and don’t care about frills, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

The first time I stumbled upon Spotlight and Shine, I had been searching for good place that does waxing close to my job. I had gone to other places but was not too impressed with the job that they did. But at Spotlight and Shine, Amy hooked up my eyebrows really nice and I go there very often. I had messed them up from plucking and she evened them out for me and made them look spiffy. Everyone there is so friendly and I feel good going there and have always left happy. Their prices are reasonable as well.
