I had a hair trial done this past April with Patrick Evan for my wedding which happened this past August. The first hair trial went pretty badly — my hair ended up falling apart within the first hour. I had a bobby pin that slipped out within 15 min of leaving the salon and after that within the next hour I had ~ 5 – 8 more bobby pins that slipped out and my hair started falling apart. When this was raised to Patrick Evan’s attention, they offered to give me a second (complimentary) hair trial — so this I was pretty pleased with in that they were addressing customer satisfaction issues.
The second hair trial (they gave me a different hair stylist) went much better and I actually ended up going with them for my wedding hair. The second hair stylist (Cass) was really good, and I was really happy with the hair that she had done for my bridesmaids and me on my wedding day.
The reason why I give them 3 stars is that I think they really need work on their infrastructure end. I would recommend that they implement some type of contract system that documents the agreed upon services and pricing. I felt like a lot of it was done ad hoc and just over various emails and phone calls. At one point (prior to the wedding), they thought it was going to be 7 people getting hair done, when it was really only 4 people total. After my wedding, I was emailed saying that they’d charge me for 7 hours of work when the hair stylist was only there for 4 hours — I got a response back apologizing for the confusion because they had just changed their policy in that they were now charging for the total hours that the stylist was away from the salon but that since I got in before the policy change, I’d be charged for the 4 hours. My guess is that they probably have a lot of brides they talk to about wedding hair, so they just start mixing things up, esp if everything for each client isn’t just documented all in one place.
Overall, I was really happy with the wedding hair updo that Cass did, but they just need to clean up on their infrastructure/​process end for wedding hair.

Let me start, as a guy who doesn’t know hair all that well, and my instructions are very vague that when I go to most places I end up with a hair cut that is less than desirable. However, here it seems to open up options and its fun and interesting to see what I come out with, and it is always something that looks good and easy for me to maintain.
I have been coming here for over a year now from when they were back on Market street. The very first time I came to Brandon, he gave me the best hair cut I have had. He definitely does a good job and kept me coming back. As of late he has been quite busy with his bookings and I am quite the procrastinator. I usually do not schedule a haircut until i absolutely need it, and with Brandon getting more customers he is usually booked. Luckily he does a good job picking his staff, and the most recent visit I came in and was helped by Sergei. I set my vague requirements and he worked with it and did an awesome job. Gave me a styling that is very versatile and fun. Since Brandon is booked so often I think I found my alternate!

I booked my second appointment with Trevor today and he made me realize once again why I chose this place to begin with. I really look like a million bucks now! lol Beautiful job and a fabulous service! Thank you :)

Overpriced horrible hair cut and an overall frustrating experience…
I have mid length hair that was in bad need of getting its layers cleaned up, and with Summer here, I also wanted the back shortened a bit, simple right? So, I went on Unilocal and found the most highly rated hair place near where I work and found this place. It was close by, only «moderately» expensive, and had 5 stars out of 155 reviews. How much better could I get, right?
I book an appointment for later the same day, head in, and get situated. I tell the hair stylist (forget her name) what I’m in for and immediately she starts making suggestions for changing things and wants to cut my bangs higher up my face and wants to leave the back as long as it is because «it looks right». I had to say multiple times that I *only* wanted the bangs trimmed by a centimeter or two, that this was important to me, and that I wanted them to stay long. I *also* clarified with her a few times that I wanted the back pulled up a few inches because she kept insisting on keeping it long (this was *my* hair getting cut!).
Long story short, after a quick shampoo and a long blow dry, she proceeds to cut my bangs almost to my ears, layers the very bottom couple of inches of the rest of my hair, and does the quickest and laziest trimming I’ve ever witnessed…
Not being a person to cry over spilt milk, I decided just to cut my losses, since the damage was already done. The stylist says to the lady at the front, «Just a regular haircut.» Lady at the front says to me, «Great! That will be $ 95 dollars! Would you like a receipt?»
Yeah, not doing that again…

I was on a business trip and my hair was getting long and stringy. I all of a sudden got so annoyed… I took a fat RISK in going someplace new. But, I knew I could count on Unilocal.I went by the reviews and then just picked someone that fit my schedule. I feel like I won the lottery because my schedule was super condensed. Natasha was awesome! She LISTENED… left my length and defined my hair and structured it so it had bounce. I love it so much that I want to go to my local stylist and tell her to mimic it!
You rock Natasha. Thank you for an amazing cut. Can I import you to Charlotte? :)

I had an absolutely AMAZING experience with Anthony. He is new to the studio from Chicago. He used to have his own hair studio in Chicago. He is wonderful. He is extremely attentive and knowledgeable. I was making a pretty big change to my hair, and was so nervous I was breaking a sweat when I walked in. I had long hair, and decided it was time to go short. Knowing how important this was to me, and how nervous I was, he took his time to cut my hair in intervals, going shorter by a bit each time until we were at a length I felt comfortable with. He did exactly what I showed him I wanted. And this is very hard to find. I love my haircut, it is PERFECT!!!
He also completed a keratin treatment on my hair after the cut. My hair is still silky smooth and practically straight with air drying only!!! …Not to mention his personality was to die for!!!
I loved Anthony, and can’t wait to go back to him!

Expert and true artist when it comes to hair. It seems like it’s never his job, it’s his craft. He has always listened, made great suggestions, and provided me the style I wanted and then some… I think my gf is not to say me … ha ha. Now seeing a gorgeous and hot in the mirror…
His genuine kindness and thoughtful listening to what I was looking for in a haircut was really appreciated.

I used a Groupon for a keratin treatment with Trevor. Results first: it’s been two days (just washed my hair this morning) and 1) my long hair completely dried in 30 minutes (apparently it’s one of the benefits of the treatment), 2) it’s straight, 3) it’s smooth, 4) it’s shiny and 5) it’s silky!
My hair is naturally really thick and wavy and I’m always wanting hair that’s less bushy and more tame. This treatment went a step further and straightened my hair! It’s not as straight as a Magic Straight (remember those?) because the ends of my hair are still a little wavy. It’s like my hair is blow-​dried! I’ll have to wait and see how long this lasts but so far, I’m really pleased with the results.
Trevor was fantastic. BHS has moved to a temporary location at 55 Grant Ave. and they share space with at least one other salon (Patrick Evan). It’s just Brandon and Trevor right now but between the two of them, they make it work. Trevor was personable and funny and I didn’t feel pressured to talk to him or to make conversation, especially when he was breathing in the fumes from the treatment.
They’ve made the treatment a lot safer and BHS uses a special air purifier so there’s a lot less toxicity and discomfort. I know some people argue about the safety of the chemicals but let me say this: if you want straighter, smoother hair and your hair is naturally curly or wavy, how else do you expect it to get straight and smooth unless you douse it in chemicals? There’s no «natural» process.
The great thing about keratin treatments is that they don’t take long (my hair is halfway down my back and, like I said, is really thick and wavy — whole process took about 1 hour and 15 minutes). I had to wait two days to wash my hair (Trevor said technically 24 hours but 48 to be safe) but when my hair looks this great, who cares?! I’m used to the 72 hour rule for Japanese-​style straightening methods so two days was a breeze.
I totally plan on heading back in a few months to see if the «cumulative effect» of these treatments really holds water. Returning customers get a flat rate of $ 200. Will update again!

Brandon is an expert and true artist when it comes to hair. It seems like it’s never his job… it’s his craft. He has always listened, made great suggestions, and provided me the style I wanted and then some. Thanks for the appointment flexibility, cool staff, and overall great experience! OKAY… A groupon junkie here, always seeking a great deal but simultaneously, quality businesses/​products.
As there are many women out there that have an issue with their hair taking centuries to grow out, I am one of them. So, I know it’s imperative to find a fantastic, enthusiastic, talented, and EXPERIENCED hairstylist that will also be meticulous and PAY ATTENTION when they are with you. I’ve had a-​z experiences and am a very easy-​going person but learned wonderful hair stylists are artists and should be given credit when it’s due…
AMANDA, YOU ARE AMAZING at your job (and were a perfect match for me :). I came in with some photos on my phone, VERY briefly scrolled through, chatted and you gave me a haircut I LOVE! It’s EXACTLY the new look I was searching for. You’re fun, down to earth and sweet.
While there, I was greeted with such politeness and welcomed and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Brandon chat away ;) I had a wonderful time there!
