Underground sushi bar with sushi on boats that float around the bar. Rolls on the boats come out to about the same price/piece as whatever you can order off the menu, so we ordered a couple of rolls from the server and tasted a few that floated by. Rolls weren’t amazing, but they were all pretty solid and the Salmon sashimi was reasonably priced and tasty. You can take your time or grab a bunch of stuff off the boats and eat quickly. I liked the atmosphere and the servers were on top of their game. The boats make it easy to eat quickly and leave if you need to, even the ordered rolls came out fast. I really enjoyed the experience and feel of this place and we will probably come back. Note to self: They don’t take discover :(

Really good food. Chefs are very friendly and will provide you with specials if needed. I am allergic to shellfish and they always make sure to prep my dish. They also offer free green tea. The fish is fresh and will not disappoint. One of my fav spots in SF

We ate at the bar and the food kind of tasted a bit old. The waitress was a bit unfriendly but nothing atrocious. Other than that, very nice and clean restaurant.

Standard pretty decent sushi spot in the middle of sam Fran. Quick and convenient. They have the conveyer belt type of sushi where you can grab what ever plates of sushi you want. Cool environment. Decent service and okay food. Nothing to write home about

Stopped in for a late lunch on a Sunday. It was a little strange having to go into the basement of the building before knowing for sure that it was open. The place wasn’t too busy, and we got seated in front of the boats. We got a great view of sushi rolls being prepared. The selection on the boats wasn’t very large, but again, it was a Sunday afternoon. To supplement the sushi boats, we got the Orange Dragon Roll, which was delicious. Will likely return.

This restaurant is located underground. I’ve been here a few times. It’s a cute cozy place. They have a sushi bar right in the middle of the restaurant with little boats going around with sushi on them. They also have small tables along the sides if you don’t want to sit at the bar. If you sit at the bar, you can pick the sushi you want to eat from the boats. It’s kinda cool. The service is good. They seem to be getting really busy nowadays. The price is reasonable for sushi and for it being located right by Union Square.

I actually came back the last night I was in the city and got take out. That’s when I tried the orange dragon, I think it was and the tuna Cali roll. Also I got the vegetable udon soup. I enjoyed everything very much! The first night I ordered sashimi and also another roll that was cooked but I cannot seem to recall the name. The orange dragon was really delicious, I love sashimi and enjoyed the soup very much. Also the tuna Cali which is usually what I order when I go to any sushi restaurant! Thank you again, I will definitely be coming back.

I’ve lived in SF for a few months and have walked past this restaurant many times with intrigue. I had never tried a sushi boat restaurant, and one Saturday my intrigue got the better of me. You can either be seated at the bar(sushi boats) or a table. Most folks sat at tables surprisingly. Each plate has its own price which is labeled in front of you. Everything is pretty overpriced, but for a place that seems rather touristy that’s not a surprise. The sushi itself was OK — not the greatest I’ve had, and certainly not the worst. I’d come back here mainly to show folks what a sushi boat restaurant is like, but not so much for the food. It’s a neat restaurant though.

Went here with my family for my birthday and had a great time. A good place to go to considering how late they’re open. Initially I was skeptical about going here since there seemed to be nobody around the area. At first we were going to go to the Thai restaurant across the street, but it seemed too packed inside and there was a bit of a waiting time. So we decided to go here, and super glad we did. They have a cute water-flowing sushi bar in the middle that my younger siblings couldn’t get away from. Also the waitress that served us was very charming. She was patient and answered any questions my family had. To all the veggie-heads, I recommend the Japanese veggie, snowy pumpkin, and Pacific vegan. Total nomnom Besides that, my family liked everything that they ordered.

The waitress asked if I want change, I said yes, but she never brought my change back. Food is pricey. The boat bar is cool.

I usually love sushi restaurants with a floating sushi bar. All those tempting little plates float by and you just grab what you like. At Sushi Boat, what I grabbed tasted good, but lacked the variety I’m accustomed to at similar restaurants. This extended to the prices. The plates are color/pattern coded to represent the different prices, and almost all the plates that were coming around were at the highest price point and added up very quickly. Service was also not very good. My friend opted to order off the menu and it seemed like the waitress literally lost his order. We waited and waited and then he finally had to flag the waitress down and ask about it. At least his one roll arrived quickly after that. Sushi Boat calmed my sushi cravings and the fish was of decent quality, but I’m unlikely to come back again.

First time at a floating boat sushi place. Great food, great service. Very clean and professional. Waitress was very helpful and answered all my question regarding the floating boat selections.

Buen sushi, con el pasar de los botes van agregando variedad. Linda experiencia. Única crítica: es considerablemente más barato pedir el sushi que tomarlo del bote.

This is a great place to go if you’re in the mood for sushi and just want take take a break from all then hoopla on Geary Street. I’ve been here a couple times and it hasn’t failed me. The best thing about this place is the little river of water that carries the boats full of sushi. Typically not the most adventurous type, I decided to just go for it and try whatever suited my fancy. Everything came out relatively fast and fresh. Surprisingly, Thursday’s appear to be a great day to go, as there wasn’t much of a crowd and I could get seated relatively easy. The best thing about the meal: I was able to get piping hot sesame balls that were just delish! The only complaint I had this time was that the cup that I was served tea in smelled a bit rancid. But I don’t think that’s enough to keep me from coming back if I happen to be in the neighborhood and have a hankering for sushi. Likes: –prompt service –relatively fresh food –cool moat set up –chill atmosphere –centrally located -«splash guard» still doesn’t prevent germs during cold and flu(it’s called cover your cough, folks, and not with your hand!) –glasses may not be the freshest(may want to smell before you sip)

I took the Vegetable Soba and enjoyed it a lot! The weather was cold so having a soup was exactly what I needed. The soup itself it is good, buuut adding lemon and soy sauce make it even better! The place looks good although dark. It has a rotating bar, what is different is the fact that the plates are on a little boats. The place I believe is expensive, two pieces of sushi are from $ 2.5−5.50(only 2 pieces!!!). My bowl was $ 11, not bud but most of the menu was overpriced. The location is super good, one block from Union Square.

Located in Union Square down a flight of stairs on Geary street is Sushi Boat. Despite the Unilocal rating of 3 stars I thought they were worth trying based on a few of the food pics I saw posted for them. How did they stack up? The positives are the ambience is comfortable and casual. A relaxed atmosphere along with very friendly service was provided. Portions of the nigiri and sashimi are generous chunks/slices. My wife and I ordered the Captain’s boat for $ 99. Captain’s boat consisted of 20 pieces of nigiri and 12 sashimi. Like I said previously the portions are generous but the taste of the rice and temperature of the fish was as if it had just come out of the cold fridge. It made the texture and flavor sub-standard or less than ideal. For the price I would have liked the quality to be average. Overall I don’t feel the need to return but if I do I’ll probably order the specialty rolls or bento boxes to be safe.

Was disappointed with the food I got here. My friends and I were looking for a place to eat and we stumbled upon Sushi Boat. The ambience of the restaurant is really cozy, clean and had some nice jazz playing in the background. The food choices here were kind of on the pricier side and since I didn’t want to spend too much money, I settled for their Tonkatsu Don, of the cheaper items on the menu($ 12.95). Honestly the dish was really underwhelming and quite nauseating. The pork strips were really thick and tough to chew and the batter was already really soggy when I received it. There wasn’t any distinct flavors so I had to add a lot of chili seasoning and soy sauce. But was really disgusted me was that the rice was really«liquidy» even before I added soy sauce. I kept thinking to myself«What component of this dish could’ve made the rice so wet?». The dish was literally just pork, egg, onions and a bit of mushroom but it was as if someone ladled like 2 spoonfuls of soup into it. Basically, it was a mushy, wet, bland mess of a meal. Service was pretty okay but it took another 20 minute for my other friend to get her ramen after we received our food. We got free edamame though for the wait so that was nice! Overall, my other friends thought their food was okay. This place is a bit pricier than other sushi restaurants for mediocre food. Probably would not come back here.

Happened to drive by this place and considering that other Japanese places in the area were closed after lunch, we decided to pop in here for a bit of sushi. From the looks outside it does not look appealing but, when you step down into the restaurant, it’s surprisingly pleasant. There is a sushi boat floating on water and sushi sails by you, a boat at a time ;-) you can also order from the menu, which we did. It’s an expensive sushi train, in my opinion. The quality is ok and, you can tell its lacks the delicate touch and the lack of detail in the presentation, something, I like in good sushi bars. The sashimi was good but a bit too thickly sliced. The soup was ok, the Spider-Man roll was also nice with soft shell crab, prawn, eel and so on. Value for money is lacking here and given the choice I would try to find something else in the area. I would come back here again. The quality is ok and the staff attentive. I wish it was a bit more value for money.

The food isn’t bad, I’ve been here twice but have always sat at a booth rather than the bar where the sushi boats are. Both times i was there I had the same waitress, she’s friendly but got both my husband and my orders wrong. We asked for different ramen, but we ended up having the same bowl. We weren’t charged differently. The first time we tried the red bean dessert, the second time we wanted something else but she brought out the red bean saying it was good, we explained to her that we already had it and wanted to try something new, she said oh okay and took the dessert back. She was friendly but it seemed that whenever she made a mistake on our order she wanted us to take it anyway. It’s a bit pricey but I woudn’t say the quality of the sushi or ramen is worth it, you can find cheaper and better elsewhere. I wouldn’t completely knock this restaurant either because i have yet to try the actual sushi boats.
