Waitress acted very nice and sweet. However… –Tables sticky –Food took over 30 minutes to be served, even though only 1 other table was occupied… and we ordered first! –15 minutes after placing the order, we’re told they ran out of that… can’t tell us sooner? –Sushi falls apart easily. –Miso soup was lukewarm and salty. I almost choked. –Below average food quality and taste.

Boom boom boom, gotta get-get Boom boom boom, gotta get-get Sushi boom boom, gotta get-get Sushi boom boom, gotta get-get Sorry I can’t get that stupid song out of my head. Anyhow, I had the Volcano, Red Dragon, and Potato Bug Rolls. The volcano rolls came out nice and warm with a spicy kick to it. The Potato Bug had a decent teriyaki flavor but wasn’t too spectacular. The fish on the Red Dragon seemed a little overcooked or old as stated in other reviews. A plus for getting hot tea on a typical Richmond district foggy night which was refilled constantly.

Sushi Boom should change their name to Sushi BUST! — Their menu is not really clear so we ended up ordering two baked rolls(Volcano Roll and Lion King Roll) that tasted really similar. — The sushi rice was super hard. — The rolls were really messy to eat because everything kept falling apart.(Just an observation… the two sushi chefs were of Hispanic origin. Let’s just say that was a first for me. You can infer from it whatever you want.) — Service was horrible. Even though there was only one other table that was occupied, service was really slow and the lady who worked there was not attentive at all. — The place was pretty dirty. This place is a complete failure. There are tons of better sushi places on Geary. DONOTCOMEHERE unless you want to be disappointed!

Flagged the review if you can. The Raw fish in the glass case were half-dried, you can see the color changed to BROWN the edges of Tuna and Hamachi. Because the fish were cooked by the lights from the ceiling. So the edge of those fish were curled-up. That’s old fish. Isn’t the Tuna suppose to be RED? Isn’t the Hamachi suppose to be white? Isn’t the Salmon suppose to be pink? Fxxx me but I went there twice. I deleted the 1st review by my self and flagged & removed twice because I thought the first 2 lines(you don’t see it in this review) were: 1. Not nice. 2. Not propriety. 3. offend against public. 4. sounds racism. 5. insulting But, I could say anything else. But I decided to bring this up because I was walking by the other day and i was almost walking in, but I can tell by just lookin’ from the window, I saw the same shit. «It’s a Crocodile Fxxxhouse» means that it was really Filthy, DIRTY Counter!!! Ew! by «3 Dirty Sanxxxx» menas that 3 Non-Asian people were makin’ Sushi. They treat Sushi as taco. Everything fell apart. Urgh! The Raw fish were SO Badly kept. Yuck! I know my original review wasn’t «NICE» but I think I have a right to say the place is seriously filthy and BAD. One of the WORST sushi place in town, PERIOD. Btw, This is a list of my worst sushi experience in SF if you interested. … Rita C. said, «I totally used to go there when I was a freshmen in college to drink underage: p Sushi sucks there though… I got food poisoning from them once! I am not surprised that food poisoning. Because OLDFISH! Urg! Instead of flagged the review, flagged the place. Btw, Char A. said, «So glad that people like you review the bad places also. Bad fish will really make you sick. That is just a disgusting place and should be notified to the Board of Health

Came here Sat night before a night of drinking. Since we were gonna be going to BevMo to grab drinks, decided to come here since it’s close by. I thought it would be busier on a Sat night but there were just a couple people at the bar and another table besides ours. They didn’t have a huge selection on sushi rolls but they had what I always like so I was happy. I ordered the Red Dragon($ 8.50) california roll with tuna on top. We also got some sake with beer. Never really done the sake bomb where you slam the table. So we did a couple of those and it was messyyyy… Never again. But, I did won! I’m like one of the guys when it comes to alky! The sushi itself was OK. I’ve had better but it was fairly cheap for what you get. I’ll probably come back again just to do some more sake bombs!

Sweet Jeebus. This is my fault. I can’t hold to a high standard any establishment that is serving raw fish at 10:30pm on a Sunday. The waitress was super nice and the service was great. The food… it just. it just wasn’t good. The Caterpillar rolls may have actually contained caterpillars.

Honestly, I used to like this place. It was a relatively cheap place to eat decent sushi at – the keyword being«decent». Sushi Boom was a place I’d take friends or family to eat if we didn’t feel like spending a whole lot on extravagant or extremely authentic sushi. My last visit here was not so pleasant, however. Though the food tasted more bland than usual, the real gripe I had was with the service. My mom ordered one of the combo sashimi plates(don’t get this), and asked for a bowl of rice since she can’t eat sashimi without it. Moments later, the lady brought the bowl out and it was literally half full. We asked her for a little more rice and she gave us an uncomfortable look, saying«alright, but that’s already a bowl of rice.» Definitely not true. The second thing that went wrong was the waitress failing to mention that the 6 piece spicy tuna roll is actually 4 pieces. We immediately asked her why we were missing 2 pieces and she explained that«the pieces are a little bigger, so we reduced it to 4.» I mean, honestly. It’s not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but this is something that a server should at least mention. I won’t even get into the fact that these rolls were VERY small and it’s unlikely that they made them bigger. Not sure about this place anymore.

This place has a pretty good variety of food on the menu. Pretty small, but nice. –1 Star because the tables, chairs, and menus were REALLY sticky –1 Star because the utensils we got had some food already on it *ack* Would come back here only if I don’t feel like driving farther than the end of my street, but other then that I wouldn’t put myself through it all again. Good place, but there are definitely better places to get sushi in SF.

Sushi Boom! I love it. It is my favorite sushi place on Geary Street. To be serious, it is better for lunch. To be silly, it is better in the evening. I only get rolls when I go here and the complimentary salad and miso soup. This is another one of my college places that I still like and go to once in a while. My favorite role is the Volcano roll. I have to get it every time I go. Other roles that I like are Rock N’Roll, Geary, and Tempura there. It’s a fun place, it is inexpensive, and the staff is really nice. When I was in college, it was even cheaper, so today, I can only give it a four.

Went into Sushi Boom for lunch with a group of people while attending a seminar. The edamame we ordered had a lot of sea salt which I love. The noodles in the vegetable udon we ordered were overcooked making it a bit mushy. Oh well, it still was passable as it had the right amount of vegetables. For our sushi, we ordered a Red Dragon Roll, a Family Affair Roll and did a special order roll. The Red Dragon Roll was a California roll wrapped in maguro. I stopped eating California rolls because they were average in taste, but the crab was suprisingly fresh in the roll and combined with the tuna wrap making in pretty good. The Family Affair Roll was white tuna, tobiko, onion and unagi. The person that ordered it originally said no tobiko. So when it was pointed out to the server and brought back to the sushi chef, the roll came back within 10 seconds. I was disappointed that the chef took off the tobiko since this could have been done without sending it back. I was hoping there wasn’t a food allergy as this can sometimes be problematic when dining. I don’t remember the contents of the special roll, but it was done without a problem. The average from our table was a 3 star dining experience.

SUSHIBOOM… has tanked compared to its previous years. I discovered sushi boom in 2004/5ish and back then they were the BESTSUSHIBARINSANFRANCISCO. The sushi was amazing, service was fast and VERY entertaining and most importantly the prices were really low but that didn’t reflect on their dishes. Things hhas obviously changed now… i’m not sure what happened but it must be along the lines of a new business owners or under some sort of new management. The food has gotten worst, the staff seems to be stuck on pissed mode and the prices doubled.(i understand the condition of the economy right now but even sushi boom II sustain reasonable prices). When i usually pay sushi boom a visit and order strictly sushi, but now their menu selection has changed for the worst. WHYSUSHIBOOM!?! WHYY??? This restaurant has tanked, but still not the worst in town in my opinion. *3STARS* for their excellent history and their sister store SUSHIBOOMII and *DEDUCTS2STARS* for the poor quality dishes/service. PS. there is usually one waitress and she rarely gets around to refilling drinks… my suggestion order two at a time or bring your own(this flaw remains from the past… but i see it as an SUSHIBOOM signature)

You really can’t go wrong with fried sushi and that is what I“m going to start off with. Now that that is out of the way, let’s go on: the place itself is your little typical small sushi joint. Good service, lots of menu options, and specials rolls and all at a reasonable price. For the beginner:(ie. my BF) the fried roll is good, as it is really a CA roll tempura fried. In addition, some of the other rolls are baked for those fearful of raw fish, and the staff is helpful in calming anyone who is weary of sushi. Other than that, I don’t remember specific rolls that I liked or stood out, but know that every single roll we had was great! Oh and also, since not every sushi places serves it, note that here you can do Sake bombs. Bring it on!

Sushi Boo Boo! I don’t know why I continue to give sushi places a chance. Sometimes it’s just so hard being Japanese. *sigh* Sushi Boom is one of those places that you go to because you are lazy, broke, starving, and don’t wanna go far. A small restaurant and not so busy on a weekday night, a group of four of us squished into the back table. We agreed to share the small sashimi boat, tonkatsu, and 3 rolls. The boat shipped into the table, and it was okay. Not enough ginger served. Tonkatsu needs work and rolls were bleh because I don’t like my rolls served warm. Best part– Ice cream and fried bananas(you can’t screw that up!). As for the service, it wasn’t bad, nothing really to complain about. I guess you get what you pay for. Sometimes I hate being lazy & Japanese.

Sushi Boo. No m. I came here mid week(after work) during which I was having a huge craving for sushi. Four of us nestled into the back somewhere between the back wall and the bathroom. We planned on sharing all the plates and we started with the tonkatsu — fried pork — with this delicious sauce that I couldn’t get enough of. This was the best part of the meal, not counting the japanese beer. The sashimi boat that we ordered did have nice sized portions, but there really wasn’t much to it. And where was the boat? I didn’t order the sashimi PLATE! I want the whole damn boat too! The other three rolls we ordered off the specialty menu were really just not that good. I was disappointed in the flavors and the presentation. I found it weird that they serve the warm rolls on foil. Overall the food was just not that great. The waitress was nice however, but I think she was serving the whole restaurant alone.

My bf and I came here one time on a Monday night for dinner, and there was only one other couple there. We sat at the sushi bar to chat with the owner. His name is Tony, and he is a really nice guy. He just kept starting a conversation with us about everything. The sushi was pretty good. I think the great thing about this place is how friendly the staff is. Tony takes a picture of all his customers and posts them on his wall. He took one of my bf and I as well. I have to revisit to see if he actually did post it. One more thing, if you have a USF id, you get a discount! Too bad we didn’t have that.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why I haven’t reviewed this place yet. Sushi Boom has been my go-to sushi«roll place» for over two years. For those who haven’t been there since ’06, give it another shot. It has changed a great deal for the better in terms of food and service. Until last night, I thought of SB as a place for good rolls, with decent tempura, teriyaki, noodles, etc, but not a «true» sushi restaurant and I never considered ordering sashimi there. I was shocked when my lovely companion went against my better judgment and ordered up some Tai nigiri, because it was great. It wasn’t the ultimately buttery, melt-in-your-mouth stuff you will find at Hama-Ko, but it was easily as good as Osaka and at half the price. The interior is generic«sushi dive» with bright colors on the walls and paper lanterns as the primary light source, but with an oddly hip-hop-centric soundtrack, the resulting vibe is awkwardly energetic, as though the restaurant design was orchestrated by a 13 year old girl. The service is traditional, friendly and prompt, and they make sure to get all the little touches right, like a plate of edamame that gets to the table 30 seconds after you sit, hot tea and citrus infused tap water refilled diligently, and carefully sliced oranges that arrive before the check. Despite all Sushi Boom has going for it, the place is still a great place to go just for rolls. Their creative catalog never disappoints with its diversity, freshness or size. The rolls are simply massive and delicious at a price that can’t be beat.

Their sushi is great, and very reasonably priced. Their entrees, the traditional japanese meals are mediocre and nothing to write home about. The service is mediocre here, but if you sit at the bar, the sushi chefs are always nice and friendly. I’ve been coming here for about 8 years, and still going even though it’s totally out of my way to do so now. Note: They have a second location on Fillmore – do NOT bother trying it. The service is worse… same owner, but eh… EDIT1÷11÷07: They have upgraded everything in both places, with the same menus, the same prices, etc. So, it’s all the same now. But we have a preference for the atmosphere(and we know the staff) from the Geary one. It makes a big difference! But I’ve been going here for 7 years and counting, and it’s starting to seem less of a point of interest…

Inexpensive awesomeness. And when I say inexpensive, I mean most of their big rolls are under $ 6.50. What does that mean? Mo’ sushi flava’ fo’ yo’ money! Splurge on that Volcano Roll and the Geary Roll. Still hungry? Bring on the Mickey Mouse and some spicy tuna. They are fast, neat, professional, and pretty darned good. For their price/performance I’d give them 4.5 stars but they kinda overcooked our Volcano! So, 4 it is. Give them a try. The awning might be hard to see at first but just park near Arguello and walk over! Times visited: 1
