Not recommended! Not all sushi joints are created equal. Visiting San Francisco for my birthday. Just wanted a descent night out in a new city I’ve never been to. Did a random search and landed here. Bad idea. Wish it could of been a beginner luck sort of thing. Walked in with my girlfriend and was pleasantly surprised with the modern décor. Wasn’t greeted for a minute. Finally someone pointed us to a table. POINTED!!! Who does that? Waited 5 – 6 minutes before being served water. We ordered the all you can eat right away. It took almost 25 minutes before anything was brought out. Three items were missed. The sushi was something you could get out of a grocery store. Sorry, the truth hurts. Hope this makes them do things better. Go somewhere and save the 70 bucks we wasted

Pretty good sushi, but nothing ground breaking. I typically go with the 49er roll and the Titanic, and they are consistent and good, but not amazing. The chicken katsu is OK, not amazing, but consistent in flavor and portion size. I’ve never had anything here that knocks my socks off, but each time I order food I feel satisfied. I don’t eat on site typically, so I’m not sure about service, but their TOGO service is prompt and ready when they say it will be. It’s also really pricey for what you get. Weird thing is they were closed for almost two months for«remodeling» but when I returned to the restaurant when it reopened, I noticed nothing different about the place. Overall recommendation is, if you’re in the mood for sushi in North Beach, go for it, but but be prepared to pay a lot for OK sushi.

I used to come in here once every few months with an Ex that loved the place. Decided to come in on a friday and to my shock and pleasant surprise they were packed! They’d always had trouble filling the place up so I was genuinely glad the place was doing well. We asked about how long the wait was and she said we could go next door and grab a drink and t leave my number and she would text me. Unfortunately, that was where the pleasantries ended. After two drinks at Square and no text we came back and a different lady was working the front. She informed us they don’t take numbers and text people and acted like I was crazy. Luckily the same girl that told us to leave the number popped by and offered to sear us but the original lady was super rude. We ordered the all you can eat menu, which in the past has been good. I realize the all you can eat items are going to be a bit smaller and a bit rice-ier for lack of a better term. But i wasn’t ready for the horrible service and terrible food we got. I ordered a fried spicy tuna roll and from a cross section it was 95%+ rice and the alleged 5% tuna wasn’t red at all it was orange from all the spicy sauce(mayo and sriracha) they used to cut the tuna down further. Hell I’m not even sure it had ANYTUNA in it. The ultimate Insult beyond the low quality food was when the bill came. Party of four with all you can eat and fed a bunch of tuna flavored spicy rice and the total came to $ 225 dollars. This wasn’t a deal it was straight up robbery. I also learned why the service was so absolutely terrible… THEYADD18% AUTOMATICALLYTOANYPARTYOFFOUR! Is that even legal? I have no clue, but I realized the service wasn’t just grossly inadequate to keep us from ordering all you can eat items too often, it was so bad because THEYDIDN’T FUCKINGCAREBECAUSETHEYKNEWTHEYWEREADDING18% AUTOMATICALLY so they had no incentive to provide any level of acceptable service. Used to love this place as a happy hour spot but I will never go back. It was always a 3.5 star food spot with okay food and decent prices and great srvice. Now it’s food is barely a 2 and the service is a negative 1 star.

Any All You Can Eat sushi place makes me semi-hesitant. My friends visiting from out of town were persistent about finding an AYCE sushi place, so we decided on Sushi Hunter. I called at 6pm on the 30th and made a reservation for 6:30pm, the girl on the phone was very nice. I showed up around 6:20pm and was seated promptly. It was not super busy which was nice. The environment is OK, the walls are painted bright blue which is a somewhat bright color for dinner ambience. The place is small, so I imagine the brighter color helps the room feel bigger. The service is mostly why I’m rating 5 stars(but don’t get me wrong, the food was great too). I’ve worked in the service industry in the past for many years, so I am very critical of my dining experiences. I didn’t catch the name of our server, but she was extremely attentive, knew the menu well, helped me with a recommendation, and made sure we had everything we needed. Any extra plates, dishes, napkins that were taking up space were removed in a timely manner. My date and I ordered off the a la cart menu and our dishes came out very quick — we took part in the happy hour and ordered 2 alaska rolls($ 6 each) and 1 spicy tuna roll($ 6), and then ordered the specialty Lion king roll. The Lion King roll($ 15 was charged, though I thought the menu said $ 14) differs from place to place and I have to say their Lion King is my favorite of all the other sushi restaurants I’ve been too. I really enjoyed the Chicken Karrage happy hour appetizer($ 4) which was extremely delicious(the batter was nice and crispy and the meat was very tender), a miso soup($ 1 Honestly not my favorite miso soup, but very delicious) and the Wakame Salad($ 3 I LOVED the salad, though its pretty much the same everywhere) as well. We spent $ 53 including 2 hot teas. Our other 2 friends ordered the all you can eat — one vegan/vegetarian and one with meat. I talked to them yesterday and they still feel full: P The AYCE takes longer when you order alot of things, so they recommend ordering only 5 things at a time. It did take their dishes much longer for ours to come out, but their dishes always featured alot of items. If this place was more convenient to get to, I would make a point to come here more often. When I am in the area craving sushi, Sushi Hunter will be the top of my list. Thank you Sushi Hunter for a great dinner! :)

The titanic roll was very good. The service was excellent. A cozy neighborhood restaurant with friendly staff and pretty tasty sushi. I would recommend it for sure.

This is such a great little gem in San Francisco. We went for all you can eat sushi for a friends birthday. I want to say that this 5 stars is mainly for the service. We were a large group and they were very accommodating. Not only were they great, they were so nice the whole time as well. We brought an ice cream cake and they let us keep it in back, then lit the candles for us, and cut it up and served it! Seriously amazing. As for the food it was definitely good. The fish was very fresh, and the rolls and nigiri didn’t have too much rice. The only thing was the lower level of all you can eat has a very limited number of rolls. I will definitely be back, such a great place

They are closed through November but have not made any attempt to inform people through their website or Unilocal.Even their storefront doesn’t say.

Came here with a large group, where half of us ordered a la carte, and the other half did all you can eat. I did a la carte, and only ordered some avocado cucumber rolls with seaweed salad, which are pretty hard to mess up, so they were okay. The other half that did all you can eat were unsatisfied. The fish definitely didn’t look very fresh, and were definitely poor cuts. They also served the plates extremely slowly and always with less than what was ordered. After lingering for over 2 hours with an extremely slow rate of food serving, they said to us they were all out of salmon and all the other fish we were ordering, so we just decided to end the night and leave. I don’t really blame a restaurant for trying to save money, but they shouldn’t do all you can eat if they’re just going to do cheap tricks to not serve you what you paid for. They should just not have an all you can eat option and be more upfront to their customers.

Turns out their all you can eat is not also all you can drink(beer that is)…whoops! But the drinking was necessary. The sushi was pretty weak on the AYCE menu. Heavily rice. Fun place regardless!

Sushi hunter is a decent option for cheap sushi in north beach. There is an all you can eat option and nothing here is inedible. You won’t find a better price than here. As you can probably expect this isn’t going to be the finest quality sushi but it is good. I usually still to simple rolls and those are pretty good here. I never spend more that 20 or 30 dollars for a full meal which is unheard of when it comes to sushi in SF. I also really love the setup in the place. It feels like a club as it is usually dark in the place with neon lighting. There is also usually new club music being played over the loud speakers as well. The drinks are good and usually you are able to get your food in a short amount of time. If you don’t need the frills in your sushi outing and just want a large of amount of sushi at a good price then this is the place to try. It isn’t something you are going to want to go to everyday or take an important date to but if you are craving sushi you could do worse.

Holy cow! What can I not say about this place! First off, I didn’t find this place! My bae did. Well we both were craving for some sushi and the first thing that popped up was sushi hunter! Wow. Reading all these reviews where everyone made it sound so delicious that we had to try this place! Me and bae, initially was really excited about trying an AYCE sushi place in SF! Once we stepped inside, we weren’t even greeted or acknowledged until like 8 minutes later or so by this blonde, when obviously the place was pretty empty. Well we sat at the very back which was a bummer but oh well. After looking at the menu for like 5 minutes, we were ready to order, thus we tried to get her attention. I swear she saw us but she just ignored us and then like 5 minutes later a new waitress comes out to take our order! They didn’t give us no water or asked if we would like anything to drink and when we did ask for some ice water, they forgot to give it to us until the third time we asked! Like seriously??? Well okay we can excuse that I guess since we both were just hungry and wanted food! HOLYCOW, ONCEOURFIRSTORDEROFSUSHICAMEIN, WEWERESHOCKEDBYTHEAPPEARANCE! It looked like just some garbaged dropped on the plates. The sushi nigiri sure WASNTFRESH at all! Tasted and smelled hella fishy. Sorry but not sorry and then the other rolls were not even good! There definitely was too much rice and the fillings inside was bland. The rice itself had too much Vinegar and it was too mushy like baby food. The fuck. Well we basically only tried a couple of items and they were all gross… Also when we tried asking for the check, it took them like 15 extra minutes to give it to us. Like are you fucken serious! overall: *Horrible customer service *Food sucks(sorry but there must be something wrong with these Unilocalers who have been speaking so highly about this place… Nothing good at all. I guess some people don’t know what good quality sushi taste like) *you get what you pay for(I rather had quality over quantity) *never coming back *EVERYTHINGTASTEDTHESAME! Not what good sushi is supposed to be like!

Despite waiting for awhile in between the orders of AYCE, I love this place! I think this is the only AYCE in SF! The sushi isn’t extremely fresh but for a cheap price, it can’t get any better than this!!! The seaweed salad was a little too sweet but it’s ok. Chicken teriyaki was right portion for me. Fried tofu was a little soggy but still not bad. Potstickers were damn good and I loved most of the ngiri especially the salmon! I think the salmon was the freshest fish there. Restaurant is like another hole in the wall but not small at all. Just the right amount of space. Lightings were cute. balance of light and dark. Soy sauce teapot holder was suppperrr cute hehe :) Staff welcomes you right when you come in and waiters are attentive as much as they can. Anyways, if your not too picky about your sushi and have a little more patience, then affordable AYCE is the spot!!! AYCE on the weekdays, if you pay cash is $ 25 per person. If you pay credit then it’s $ 27/person. There’s an extended ayce menu but the $ 25 is good enough. I will mos def come back… yay!!!

This place gets 5 stars for being the only AYCE I can find in SF, but I’m not a huge fan of ordering from a waitress instead of ordering from the chef, even when I’m sitting at the bar. Came here on vacation with my fiancé. The food was AMAZING. While the AYCE selection isn’t super varied, the quality of the fish is tops! AYCE also includes some really yummy non-sushi appetizers that differ from just edamame. I was surprised to see croquettes! The chefs here are quite generous with their cuts. They don’t try to «over-rice» you or cut fish too thin. The nigiri here was cut thicker than at any other place I’ve been to. We loved it. We came near closing, so the service wasn’t the best. The waitresses got a couple of things mixed up and took a little longer than usual. However, they were fairly packed, so I understand. I highly recommend the Hot Angel Roll, ANY nigiri, gyoza, and croquettes! I got to try my first croquette here, and it was soooooo yummy. I would definitely come back again!

The food was decent, service was awful and all you can eat was $ 30(27 mon-th, 30 fri-sun) It wasnt that busy when we first got there but they moved us to a different table after we were here for 5 minutes and it was ridiculously hard to get their attention the whole time. They also only gave us half the stuff we ordered and when we noticed that everyone else that came after us already got their food, we asked them and they said they forgot the other half so we didn’t receive it for 30 minutes. They need at least one or two more people working here. They stopped another customer while they were talking to go pick up the phone. After waiting 7 – 8 min after getting our check, we just walked up to pay because no one ever looked over or came to pick it up. Their chicken katsu and seaweed salad were pretty much the only things I liked. I would definitely not recommend this place.

Every time I’ve been here I’ve ordered the all-you-can-eat sushi(for lunch, late lunch, dinner, late dinner… multiple times) It’s a fantastic price for endless sushi. That’s the only reason I’m giving 3 stars. It’s a perfect place if you want to leave with a food baby of sushi and soup. The rolls are super unbalanced with an excessive amount of rice. They’ll charge you for the rolls if you leave any pieces left over(they don’t offer take-out for the all-you-can-eat menu). The service is a hit or miss as well. I’ve had to flag my waitress down after patiently waiting each time for a new order, water/tea, or the check/to pay the check when the place was practically empty. Good all-you-can-eat, but lacking in rice/fish ratio and service.

Randomly dropped in since a friend craved sushi and saw one on our walk. Was reluctant at first seeing it is only 3 stars on Unilocal. That’s pretty bad for sushi in SF. Well let’s just say Unilocal didn’t lie. It was at most 3 star. The sashimi was frozen tasting, the crunchy roll wasn’t very crunchy. Good thing it was only a snack stop. But my own fault for going into a three star place for sushi in SF.

Never going to Sushi Hunter again. Sorry… — Slowww service. Took forever to get food on the table and into my belly. — Fish did not taste that great or fresh. Rice also tasted weird and had a really mushy consistency. Yuck. My friends and I were scared we’d get sick from the food later on. Sushi was not enjoyable. :( — AYCE sushi price isn’t worth it… — Menu options are kind of limited too… — It’s also difficult finding parking nearby the restaurant. Sad face. :(

For AYCE, I can’t complain. That said, the hot food left a lot to be desired and the rolls were just okay. I don’t need a lot of sashimi or nigiri so I can’t comment on the freshness of the fish aside from the philly roll I had, which was fine but nothing to write home about. My friends on the other hand tried nearly ever nigiri on the menu and were satisfied overall. Service was good and food came out promptly. Udon: 4 out of 5 stars. Good broth. Mixed tempura: 2 out of 5 stars. The shrimp tempura tasted powdery, and I don’t understand why that would be. Perhaps the shrimp was frozen or old? The batter was a little soggy. Agadashi tofu: 3 out of 5 stars. COLD and the broth lacked any flavor Chicken teriyaki: 3 out of 5 stars. Overly salty — both the chicken and the sauce. Philly roll: 4 out of 5 stars. Hard to mess this up. Inari: 4 out of 5 stars.

This place was eh. The décor is pretty cute and modern looking. Its all blue and white. Even the Christmas tree. They went all out on color coordinating for sure. The waitresses were nice and the food came out pretty quickly. We had a large group there on a Saturday evening and it was completely empty except for our group. We all ordered all you can eat for $ 28 each. Downside is if you want all you can eat the whole table has to do it too(i.e. no half a La carte and half all you can eat at the same table). There weren’t that many rolls on the menu. The actual rolls were kind of bland. They weren’t super amazing or super disgusting. It was just eh. Lol. So I probably wouldn’t come here again for all you can eat since it is pretty pricy for mediocre sushi. The miso soup was good though.

My new years resolution is to go to the gym more often. This will coincide perfectly with my re-discovery of Sushi Hunter’s All-You-Can-Eat dinner option.(the all you can drink Sake option is almost as evil). It’s simple, its filling, they don’t over do it on the rice like some AYCE places and they are really fast with the appetizers.(rolls take a little longer, but that’s expected with the volume they are churning out). If you are partying in North Beach, or need a break during an all day event(SantaCon, Holiday Pub Crawl, Halloween on Saturday in 2015), this is DEFINITELY the place to go with a group. Just make sure everyone wants AYCE. they were cool with our DD not doing it at a table of 4 but it was a slower night. the rule is, everyone«eat’s all they can» or no-one does. I truly appreciated their slight flexibility on this. Usually that’s not the case(and completely understandable given the business model)
