We really enjoyed this place! The food was great, though, a tad pricey for the portions. Didn’t take away from the experience at all. If you’re hungry and want some sushi, check Sushi Toni out!

This isn’t the most exquisite sushi in SF but if you want good, fresh and relatively cheap rolls, udon and more, check this Nob Hill home in the wall place. Phenomenal service plus cocktails, saki and vino.

I highly recommend going here for a quick bite. This place is not too much and not too little when it comes to a sushi restaurant. I came here on New Years Eve before going out for the night. My girlfriend and I needed a place to eat but didn’t want to spend too much or waste a lot of time. There wasn’t a wait for a table, the prices were competitive, and the servers were nice and responsive. The food wasn’t excellent or worth ranting about, but it was good. The food was good enough to be satisfied with our dinner and go on about our day. The service was polite and the experience overall was good. I if I am around the area and need a quick bite, I would definitely come back to this restaurant.

Can a person dream of sushi? Why, yes. Jiro dreams of sushi, and I have dreamed of sushi since my visit to Sushi Toni. I was so excited to indulge my west coast sushi craving that I basically ran up to the sushi bar, where Rogelio was the sushi chef on duty. After establishing that his mother tongue is Mayan(WOW) I got in an order for some of the most delicious sushi of my life. Do you see me posting any pictures of it? No? Because I inhaled it immediately upon arrival. The best-prepared, most succulent and fresh sushi of my whole life. I’ve run into chewy sushi before, sometimes accompanied by lukewarm rice(I seriously just shuddered at the memory), and it’s made me die a little bit inside. This fish was perfect. Mine was an insanely-priced dinner meal(under $ 25) for a roll and at least 8 pieces of sashimi. All the while Rogelio entertained me in Spanish, no less. We talked about his training, the insane cost of living in CA, and how to make it in America. The whole thing was a flippin delight. Are you still reading this? You shouldn’t be. You should be eating here. Or you could be reading this while eating here — that’s also excusable. But if you’re trying to choose between Sushi Toni and another place, you know where I stand on this issue.

Unfortunately we had no idea Christmas dinner would be a 2 to 3 hour wait everywhere else in Chinatown… so we got stuck coming here which was very ok in every sense of the word. Service, food, ambiance etc.

Tried a diverse assortment of rolls at Sushi Toni — California roll, lion king roll, red dragon roll, rainbow roll, along with the fried gyoza and tamago. With the exception of the lion king roll, everything was quite fine. The lion king roll is usually my go-to«special roll» if I go out for sushi, so needless to say I’ve tried a lot of them and this one just didn’t stack up. I don’t think I’ll be back here unless I’m in a time crunch because there’s so many amazing options in the city, but this is a solid 3⁄5 restaurant in my book.

Without a doubt my favorite Sushi when I’m in SF. Cozy small place that provides some of the freshest fish anywhere. I often let Tony and my son make the selections for us. Just outstanding reasonable price food.

Sushi Toni is an interesting spot. It has a divey atmosphere, and the menus look like something that a fast-food restaurant designed, but the sushi and service was decent. The prices as well were excellent, especially given the location is within walking distance of a lot of main hotels near the Union Square area. The inside was dim when we arrived for dinner around 7pm, and jsut missed happy hour. The place wasn’t packed, but it was definitely busy, and the waitress sat us and took our drink orders right away. The hubs and I split several different roles, and the food and service was all around fine. I wasn’t blown away by anything, but nothing was bad either. Our glasses were kept full, and our bellies filled up quickly as well once the rolls started coming. For the two of us to eat 5 rolls and 2 beers, it came out to a little less than $ 50 total– total win in my book. It might not be sushi that will change your life, but if you’re hungry and looking for a place to eat, Sushi Toni isn’t a bad stop.

I’m a some what fan. Pretty good sushi and decent menu. I really liked the location to our hotel and with in walking distance to just about anywhere in the bay. Fresh fish is important to come by. I do wish they had more options in regards to spicy! We really loved the different rolls however, no spicy. I did ask about a spicy roll and the server said she can make any roll spicy. Still a good experiance and good times.

Came here with my hubby and we didn’t even eat! We pretended we got a call and had to urgently leave! First of all the place was dead empty at around 2:30pm. We sat at the bar, and as we looked as the fish in front of us we knew we had to leave. The fish looked old and not all appetizing. The tuna and salmon looked brownish as if they were sitting there for days! And on top of that, the sushi chef was not Japanese! We didn’t even wanted to try the food, we just bailed!

One of my go to sushi spots in this area. The fish is fresh, prices are reasonable and there are always tables available. The servers are all very nice and attentive. Tonight we had two miso soups, five orders of nigiri, two rolls and a bottle of sake for $ 70.

Recently my friends and I were looking for a place to grab dinner after work. One of them suggested«a pretty solid sushi place with no wait near my apartment» to which I responded«There’s no wait? That’s crazy. Let’s go!» And that’s how we ended up at Sushi Toni at 6:30pm on a Wednesday. And he was right, there were plenty of empty tables! How does a place in SF have 4 stars and still plenty of empty tables at dinnertime, I have no idea. I’m actually a little worried that if I write this review and hype it up too much, that might change… In any case, Sushi Toni serves pretty decent sushi at pretty decent prices. It’s pretty unassuming and a little hard to find, but in a good location near downtown. The atmosphere is quiet, calm, and«homey.» Definitely nothing fancy, but I appreciate that(and I think it’s reflected in the prices). The sushi is pretty high-quality and fresh, with well-portioned sizes. The rolls have a bit too much flavoring/sauces for my taste, but I could tell the fish was pretty fresh. Probably just means I should order nigiri next time. In any case, I think the food is more along the lines of 3.5 stars, but I’m bumping up to 4 just because of how easy it is to just walk in and get seated. Head over to Sushi Toni when you want a convenient and quick fix of sushi without busting your wallet.

One of the best sushi place’s I’ve tried! It’s located in downtown SF and it’s a hole in a wall place. Pretty casual too. Toni, who is the owner/chef makes their sushi SOFRESH and tasteful. Everyone I ordered here melts in your mouth. They also have a great selection of sakes too! Great sushi, and not overly priced. Deff will come back here again! Thanks Toni!

Trying to find decent, authentic, non-touristy sushi around Downtown SF is more difficult than expected. We finally settled on Akiko but had problems locating the hidden, nondescript storefront; we made our way inside, only to find that it was packed before 6pm and that reservations one week in advance are recommended o. O You can thus imagine our gratefulness to find the no-frills, authentic-looking Sushi Toni with no wait(there was a wait ~7pm when we left! I have a theory that the crowd always follows us) In our post-SF-explorations hunger, we splurged on 2 appetizers and 2 rolls – looking at the extensive menu with pictures of specialty rolls just makes you hungrier. (+) Hamachi kama $ 12.50: Quite tender(though I’ve had better) and decent portion. You have to poke around to find the fleshy parts… I’ve never understood fish anatomy, especially the kama(collar) (+/-) Spinach oshitashi $ 5.50: Tasty with the tangy sesame sauce, but gone in a few bites. Such elusive oshi. (++) Caterpillar roll $ 11.50: Perfect balance of avocado and eel. The generous avo adds a nice buttery taste and texture. (+++) Lion King roll $ 10.50: Baked mozzarella cheese in a sushi roll sounds strange to me every time, but the Lion King is the comfort food of sushi rolls and Toni’s version is flavorful and delightfully savory… like crab mac n cheese in fusion sushi roll form. Service is friendly – we received an extremely sincere apology when there was a bit of the wait for the food. As you would expect, the server was a very nice mama-san, and the place has a family-run vibe. Overall, the food is good and the restaurant is clean. I would suggest going for sushi/sashimi and passing on appetizers, which are quite pricey and were responsible for racking up the bill to ~$ 45 for 2.(But then again, when have appetizers ever been a bargain? Why do I never learn) Fun fact: This reminds me of my favorite sushi place in Mountain View, called Sushi Tomi(also no-frills and authentic). I wonder if Toni and Tomi are cousins :3

Don’t let the divey façade and inside atmosphere deceive you– this place is legit! The service was prompt and very friendly. The menu is very informative and contains photos for the sushi rolls. This was very helpful to me because the menu contains some very nontraditional and creative rolls. We ordered the cucumber salad and two rolls. The portions were perfect for a lighter dinner for two. I strongly recommend the cucumber salad– holy cats that was good! It helps offset the starch and protein intake from the rolls. We ordered the Philly and Volcano rolls. The Volcano roll takes an extra 20 minutes to prepare because it’s baked. Both the rolls were very rich and satisfying. I hope to be back to try more rolls. Oh, and to have some sake, heck yeah, sake.

Tasty Japanese food in Downtown! FOOD: My friend and I shared the Dynamite boom roll($ 12.5), the Dragon roll($ 14.5), and Tamago($ 4). I really liked the dynamite roll, which had unagi, lobster, and a bunch of other things topped with a nice spicy sauce. It was my first time having tamago, which is suppose to be sweet dish. The egg block tasted sweet but we are suppose to still dip it in soy sauce and wasabi. Not bad though. SERVICE: We came in a party of 8 and the staff worked hard to bring all of our dishes out in a timely fashion, which I really appreciated. SETTING: The restaurant is pretty small and doesn’t look too fancy. It’s located on one of the hills close to Union Square, so any time you are craving for Japanese food you know where to go. PRICE: With tip and tax we each paid around $ 18. Japanese food is suppose to be pricey so I wasn’t too surprised. OVERALLIMPRESSION: Pretty good sushi, but I think I had better quality and quantity food back home in Texas so my standards are pretty high.

Summary: Miso soup costs extra. One roll was excellent and the other was subpar. The atmosphere and service were less than okay, and the price was less than okay. Go find somewhere else, as there are literally dozens of other options! I had a hankering for sushi, and Sushi Toni seemed to be a decent place to try, being close and supposedly cheap. It was really cool that their website had a digital copy of the menu, so I was able to take some extra time to look through and think about what I wanted to eat. Service: I got there at around 5:20, as they open at 5pm. There were two other single customers sitting at the bar finishing up their meals, so I took a seat at the bar and waited! I should note that I made it all the way to almost being seated before a staff member addressed me, even though the chefs were behind the bar chopping away. I was helped rather quickly though and my food was prepared quickly, so that was nice! However, it seemed a little odd to be sitting right across the counter with the sushi chefs and never interact with them save for getting my plate handed to me. The staff didn’t seem to give off a particularly welcoming attitude, and the sushi chefs were practically silent the entire time I was there! Food: I ordered a bowl of miso soup to start along with a spicy yellowtail roll and a specialty caterpillar roll. The miso soup was pretty good, although the tofu had no solidity at all. I guess that is just a preference though. I think I also bit into a piece of onion in the soup, which was an interesting addition I hadn’t come across before. The rolls were very interesting, to say the least. Really hit-or-miss. The spicy yellowtail roll came in six pieces and was pretty poorly rolled, unfortunately. Two or three of the pieces had the wrapper visibly cutting into the center of the roll, and fell apart upon picking up. They tasted okay though, but were nothing spectacular. The caterpillar roll, on the other hand, was really good! A true sushi experience. In terms of texture, there’s sliced avocado on the top that is super creamy and delicious, and the roll itself had a good mix of crunch and fish. In terms of flavor, it was something else. My first bite was unexpectedly sweet, and the remainder of the 7 pieces was similarly sweet and filled with flavor and texture. It was great! However, that bowl of miso soup, a regular roll, and a specialty roll ended up being over $ 21 for just me, so it definitely wasn’t the cheapest sushi I’ve ever had(which was two starters, miso soup, two regular rolls and three specialty rolls for ~$ 50 between two people)

Good value, sushi is fresh, but its super-sized rather than refined. Nigiri is meant to be eaten in one delightful melt in your mouth moment. If its too big you almost need a steak knife to eat it without gagging, which defeats the purpose of nigiri style.

Sushi Toni, where everybody knows your name. Or at least, where everyone knew my name because the only people here late on a Sunday evening were a couple of creeps I had been trying to avoid, drinking in the back. I suppose you could call them«friends» of mine, but I was definitely hoping never to see them again.* They had already finished eating, but the sweet, competent server had no problem with me joining them and ordering up a little food. Under the intense scrutiny of said creeps, I panicked and ordered a Dragon Roll, which can only be called ‘sushi’ in the loosest sense of the term(this thing has crab, avocado, eel, shrimp tempura, cucumber, tobiko, eel sauce, green onion, and sesame on it). I added on some shumai because shumai is what I order when I want gyoza but think I’ve been too unhealthy lately. And it all tasted pretty good. Overall, Sushi Toni is affordable, conveniently located, and not bad at all. I’d come back, but only if I was sure my creepy friends weren’t there this time. _____________ *I will send them this review, and hopefully they’ll take the hint.

I’m pretty sure the guy that put my 49ers Roll together was only using one hand because that ish was more delicate than a Faberge egg I think I got *maybe* one piece in my mouth whole and the rest ended up a very deconstructed version of what sushi normally is. I basically would have been better off if they’d given me a spoon instead of chopsticks. I loved my massive bottle of Asahi so much that I think I might have finished all 22oz in like 4 minutes… which I do not feel effected my ability to use chopsticks or properly eat the sushi, though it did seem odd that literally every single piece fell apart as soon as I touched it. The 49ers roll was good but I’m also a sucker for thinly sliced lemon on my soosh so that played a big role in my feelings towards the 49er. The staff here are pretty sweet. They let me and my hobo friend stay here for hours after we’d finished and let us add a third and open up a new bill after we’d already settled up once. I don’t know if I’ll find myself back here often with so many options in the city, but this isn’t a bad spot to soak in some extra large beers and sushi on the fly.
