I had piano lessons with Susie for a few months before I moved out of the area. In that short time my playing improved far beyond the plateau I’d reached on my own. This was the fastest progress I’ve ever made at the piano. As an adult(lazily) pursuing the piano as a hobby, lessons normally take the fun out of playing. Susie had no problem adapting to my casual relationship with the instrument. She was able to help me with music theory, mechanical problems in my left hand, and finger placement, but all of this learning took place within the context of a piece that I really enjoyed. This was much more effective than lessons I’ve had in the past, where theory and technique were isolated from the learning of actual music.
