Sweetest Green Thing Elite Paddy, er... Party @ The Liberties

this was a nice way to celebrate paddy’s day: mellow, intimate, and sans the amatuers who come out and get messy just for that particular day. the liberties had a nice spread of sweet potato fries, sliders, potato cakes, and samosas with the infamous irish black pudding. the makers mark cocktails were none short of deliciousness, and poured generously by the bar staff. the weather was beautiful that monday afternoon, and this happy hour started the week off great. all the Unilocalers were chatting away enjoying the event, and our hosts ruggy and jessica couldn’t of done a better job.

The Green Thing: I totally forgot to wear green to this event, but my brown shirt was about being green. So it should count! :) But props to people like Jason S. and Marian G. for dressing up!!! :D
Maker’s Mark: What’s that? «Yeah, I’ll have a Maker’s on the rocks.» hahaha I’ve never had whiskey before and my Unilocaler friends looked at me in shock when they heard me ordering that! That day they were making any drink you want with Marker’s Mark in it! :)
The Liberties: Cool pub in The Mish with neat drawings on the wall! Could totally see myself coming here for a future brunch! Super friendly staff and the drinks and food were flowing during the elite hours! Loved the sweet potato fries, curry samosas, sliders, and potato pancake! Yum!!!

YEE #8 and counting for 2010 :)

Decent bar food and most of the chicks who work here have authentic Irish accents. Only problem is their policy on outside waitstaff. Unless you’re ordering food they won’t serve you outside; so you can’t just go there and chillax and have a beer and sit oustide unless you get it yourself from the bar and then take it outside.

How cool was this event?
This cool: your group of buddies all change their work schedule for one day to get at what’s really important in life — free bourbon!
Even though I live and work in the area, I rarely am around the area south of Dolores Park, and the Liberties is definitely somewhere that I want to go to again. The staff was so nice, we all felt so welcome.
My only complaint is that I wish there could have been more of those gorgeous sweet potato fries, but some vegan fatty just wouldn’t let anyone else at ‘em.
And now that I have a kick-​ass green t shirt and a $ 25 gift certificate, I am certainly going to go back and get my Irish on.

This was my first SF Unilocal Elite event. When I saw that they were serving Maker’s Mark, I jumped at the opportunity, being that Maker’s is my numero-​uno ammunition of choice. I’ve been to ‘The Liberties’, long ago for dinner. Nice cozy bar.
I had a healthy supply of Makers on the rocks to fuel me thru the 2 hour party thanks to the very hospitable wait staff. The Sweet Potato fries were very yummy and the Sliders were to die for. I could easily pound down a good half dozen if I wasn’t watching my girlish figure.
Good people, Good booze, Good eats. An excellent time.

I couldn’t say that I have been to two Unilocal Elite Events in the same day… Until now! This was my first stop of my YEE crawl and was pleasantly surprised by some pretty good eats! The sweet potato fries and curried samosas were awesome! I couldn’t stop reaching into the sweet potato fries the whole time. We also imbibed on some Maker’s Mark which got me pretty buzzed but I had to stop after 3 drinks.
I also made some awseome new Unilocal friends in Melissa and Vivian! Awesome peeps! Great seeing everyone that I knew as well. I usually don’t shout out to all the peeps that I ran into for my YEE reviews but this was one of the smallest gatherings I’ve been to. Great seeing Peter, Julia, Cece, Ting, Dru, Adam, Sheri, Marian, Rebekah and Marie!
Great job Ruggy and Jessica! Great start to St. Patty’s week!

A sunny late afternoon (thanks, Daylight Savings!) in a more low-​key neighborhood, a bright and comfy space, plentiful drinks and edible nibbles on hand, and a multitude of friendly people. Perfect ingredients for an awesome event. Thank you, Ruggy and Jessica, for hosting and putting together this little shindig in such a wonderful space.
The Maker’s Mark drinks — very strong and a nice way to start off the week. The little bites that were going around were just enough to satisfy some late afternoon hunger pangs — the sweet potato fries were especially delightful, crispy, and savory. The venue was also such a sunshiney and cozy space that it’s hard not to feel comfy and relaxed at this very laid-​back and intimate event. And, of course, add the fact that there was a multitude of friendly Unilocalers here, which is always my favorite part about events — meeting and chatting with y’all. Very fun to meet Darryl, Rebekah, Ryan, Marie, and Peter for the first time. And especially wonderful to see and chat with Ting, Keane, and Adam again.
The opportunity to slow down, eat, drink, and laugh on a sunny day with fun people. Awesome, in every respect.

being a university of notre dame alum, i feel like an honorary irish gal. …i can safely say that my severely drunk st. patty’s day evenings and excruciatingly hungover mornings are a thing of the past. doesn’t mean that i can’t get into the spirit though.
jessica and ruggy set the holiday week off right by welcoming an intimate, green-​themed, Unilocal crowd to the liberties. i sported green eyeshadow and a mostly yellow, feathery earring w/​a hint of green. people certainly got into the spirit!
i had to limit myself to two makers and cokes. whiskey is a bit too strong for my taste these days. i did, however, have my share of sweet potato fries and sliders. …and i don’t even like sweet potato fries! they weren’t too sweet (which is what i prefer), and they were pretty crispy too.

Free Makers Old Fashions — That in and of itself affords a high rating. Now, above that, the staff was so nice and interested in keeping us happy at all times. When ever I set down an empty drink I was asked if I would like an other. Then the sliders, oh the sliders. They brought out little burgers with delicious and tender rare meat. There was a nice cheese and a soft bun. I would easily come back just for these little things and I showed that by eating a metric f-​load of them.
Of course I met a lot of cool people but I won’t get too mushy here. Lets just say it was a small and interesting group of people. Even a person with an edible hat, which is just not that common in my circles.

P. S. I learned what it means to Unilocal fuc somebody. Not as dirty as it sounds or should be.

I figured, seeing as we were hanging in the Mish, the hipster thing to do would be to NOT wear any amount of green to a St. Paddy’s Day party. But then I guess hipsterism is kinda trendy now… so maybe I was SUPPOSED to wear green but not look like I was TRYING to wear green and oh no I’ve gone cross-​eyed :-/
How lucky are we to live in San Francisco in this weather?
Seriously. The Liberties was a great venue for a perfectly-​executed afternoon Elite Event. To be out in the Mission with the birds flying against the bright blue sky, sipping on Makers Mark Manhattans with delicious food going around in abundance?
God damn, life is good.

I shit you not, I have to have eaten like 5 pounds of those sweet potato fries. Seriously, I couldn’t stop. Along with free Maker’s Mark whiskey? I could have stayed there all night long but didn’t want to wear out the welcome. Something would be awkward about a bartender telling you «Sir, I think you’ve had enough…» in reference to fries.
What an amazing day for such a chill early happy hour. Sun was up, beautiful weather, good vibes all around. Mad props to the folks at Liberties for hosting, you gave us free food AND you gave away gift certificates? You certainly know the way to our hearts. Thank you Ruggy and Jessica for finding us some Irish cheer to start off St Patty’s week the right way (yea that’s right, I’m turning it into a week long holiday).
Good food, good people, good booze, good weather. All kinds of good. As always nice to hang with Unilocalers, both the ones I see all the damn time as well as the new faces. Cheers to St Patty’s week!

I had so much fun at Yesterdays Green Thing Event, you know what made this party such a sweet event?
I think it was the Sweet Potato Fries, which were perfectly done. Crispy and Served with Ketchup and a Chipotle Mayonnaise. Or maybe it was those baby burger sliders with the caramelized onions and cheddar cheese. It very well could have been those savory bacon samosas that were spicy and hot, served with a cilantro dipping sauce.
But then again, it could have been the Makers Mark Manhattans that I kept sipping on. For being a newbie to Makers Mark, I sure got into them and had a couple. Talk about a strong and tasty cocktail!
It wouldn’t be a fun event without hanging with my Unilocal Friends and meeting new Unilocalers. It was an intimate gathering, so I got a chance to sit and laugh over cocktails and food with a group of awesome people.
Yet it would have not been such a successful event without the LOVE from Liberties, Ruggy, Jessica and Unilocal. Thank you guys for making fun events like this!

This was the first stop of a food and boozegastic afternoon that lasted well into the evening. It was also my first time getting into a small Elite event! Green-​themed, Jessica (
) and Ruggy (
) showed us the way. Normally, I don’t get to talk to them much, nor to friends, perhaps just once or twice an entire event. Definitely on the «small» side (30 – 40 Unilocalers?). Knew maybe half of the Unilocalers there (from east and south bay even!), so there were still new friends to meet. Small events are the way to go if want to chat and really mingle. Thanks guys, thanks Unilocal!
The menu wasn’t much (
), but the quantity was a lot! The bartenders — Heather (
), Jasmine and Kjerstie — were all friendly and served drinks with a smile. The Maker’s Mark based drinks were strong too. I had Maker’s and ginger ale and could barely taste the ginger ale! The Maker’s Manhattan was dang strong. Finished both drinks though.
Didn’t try the sliders but the curried samosas were very good. As were the sweet potato fries. The potato pancake was okay, not too bad. Based on those items (
), and Ruggy’s praise of The Liberties’ weekend brunch, I will soon return.
Second stop was the EBay’s «Yelp Takes to the Hills!» (
). Third stop was post-​gaming at Fenton’s for ice cream. ‘Nuff said.
Milestone: the 1500^th «Funny» vote’s review… I think.

Thanks Jessica and Ruggy! Funtimes. This place is off the beaten road, at least for me. Had a mini burger, yum! A potato pancake thing, yum! lots of makers mark! nice bartenders, yum! and my 1^st taste of blood sausage not even knowing I ate it until Ruggy broke the news to me it was in the Samosa, not knowing I ate blood, yum! Met some nice folks can’t ask for a better 2 hours on a Monday.

YEAH! My First Elite event is under the belt and it could not have been a better event to dip my toes into! A sunny Monday at 4pm… drink time!
I knew this area had some great hidden gems and I have to say that Liberties is for sure one of them. First and foremost the staff — hello Makers Mark Bartenders… pouring the yum yum yummy drinks! Very skilled and also very sweet. Great servers and talkative as well which is always a plus!

Ruggy — thank you for organizing! So fun! I loved that the event was on the smaller side — you could really mingle and talk and there was food to be had! My fave was the potato pancake so good and yummy!
Loved the vibe of the place — I will for sure come back and try brunch because I LOVE to do brunch on a sunny day ah… I am already planning my return! :)
