What a great experience… not sure words can describe. It reminds me of times in my past where you don’t need to talk on your phone or be distracted by the daily chaos of life. Enjoy a conversation or a quiet moment while having a beer served out of a bath tub(nothing else is served) James was great… enough said…

A great place to stop by and meet some folks. One of the friendliest bars in SF. Both James and Cassandra are wonderful folks.

Found this place right here on Unilocal. What a cool place. Very small but that is what I liked about it. My wife and I were in there about 10 minutes and a local regular came in and bought the place a round. Thanks Mike. We played out favorite dice game(10,000) with one of the bartenders. Thanks for kicking our ass Kim. Overall great little place to hang out. This will be a regular place for us to visit when we go to the city.

File this under Another Thank You To Unilocal for finding me a cool place. I was out with my dog in SF and wanted to find a dog-friendly place to have a beer and watch the Chargers vs. Raiders game. And while the Chargers didn’t deliver, as they were wont to do this season, the Black Horse did. Realize that the place is tiny. The Village Pub in Carlsbad can accommodate 18 people comfortably, and maybe 30 in a United Airlines level of comfort. Black Horse accommodates half that. But it’s the friendly half. Bartender(owner?) James had 8 types of bottled beer available, all chilling in an old-house porcelain bathtub. I went for a Kloster Andechs, a German abbey lager I’d never hear of before, and kept coming back for more. The other 8 seats were periodically filled with locals and tourists, and my adorable Pit/Lab pup, The Wee Baby Ava, pulled up a spot in the doorway and greeted everyone who came in. But we’re not just talking dog-friendly here. When one customer got a serious swerve going on, James not only summoned a Über, but did it using his own account. That’s incredibly kind. When in SF, I’ll be back!

I hadn’t been here for awhile — such a charming little place with purplish soft lighting. Their selection of beers changes according to what is in stock and in season. Loved the bartenders, especially Kimberly! I will be back!

Drunk bartender berated a group inappropriately. Not worth it. He claimed that the party had left a used tissue on the ground. Not sure what actually happened but his behavior was beyond a normal response. Won’t go back.

Small, cozy, and unique. Make sure you stop by for comedy night. It’s cash only and all the beer is on ice in a old bath tub. This is truly a one-of-a-kind spot.

This is what it is: a neighborhood bar that is to the point. Very few drinks available but not over priced. The drinks are all on ice and kept cold in a bathtub. The bathroom is small. The whole place is small. You really just cannot fit a lot of people here. The bartenders and owners are all awesome though. The owner will make men get up so women can sit down, which is so gentlemanly. They were all amazing to talk to. Everyone acts like family and friends here. I really liked it and would definitely go back if I’m ever in town. Just don’t expect some amazing mixology cocktails happening here.

Best pub in town. Owner is charming and invites customers to play games with dice. Rules are women sit, while men stand. It’s the tiniest bar in SF, but the best imho.

This is not only the smallest bar in SF but the friendliest! James and Kim were so nice! We were there celebrating our birthdays and they made us feel so welcome. The locals were very friendly, too. We ended up buying the whole bar a round(it is the smallest bar after all)!! We will definitely go back!

James(the owner) is the man. Love this joint. All the alcohol(and by alcohol, I mean just bottled beer) is kept in a big bathtub behind the bar full of ice. It’s also probably the smallest bar in SF… I think it has only like 6 seats at the counter. But a great place to spend time and shoot the sh$t with James. If you ask nicely, he may pull out his guitar and sing you a little ditty.

This is probably my favorite bar in SF. My friends and I nearly always leave with a story or two. The beer in the tub changes most days so prepare to be flexible. Ladies, if you ask nicely you might get a mug of wine if you don’t fancy the brews.

Really small bar with bartenders that have really large personalities. Lots of regulars so you might feel left out at first but James and Cassandra will make you feel right at home before you know it. Come here to get away from the regular bar scene.

We’d read reviews that this place was small, but when we approached the door I was so taken aback that I hesitated until the bartender beckoned, cheerfully shouting«C’mon in, there’s plenty of room!» We walked in, one of the gentleman gave up a barstool for me and we ordered a bottled beer from the bathtub behind the bar. So glad we listened. James and Cassandra, the bartenders, were amazing. They navigated the minuscule behind-the-bar space like a well-practiced waltz, chatting and playing a dice game called«One, Four, Twenty-Four» with locals and visitors alike. They were running a show, but not in a way that was at all unauthentic — you can tell they genuinely liked being there and enjoyed hosting people in their strange little bar. Without them, I really doubt this kind of space would work. If you’re in Marina, stop by. It’s awesome.

Effing amazing. But it’s about the size of a shoebox so don’t plan on bringing your bridal shower down here. The space is dominated by a bathtub which houses the evenings beer offerings and empties, and which the bartendress regularly has to scale to maneuver her way around the place. But it’s effing fantastic. Love love love this place. Best pub in SF.

I always stop in for a beer when I visit San Fran. It’s tiny, tiny. Dollar bills on the wall along with other memorabilia give it a nice charm. The girl that tends the bar is friendly, as well. Will keep coming back.

What a great place for a random night. I stumbled upon this place on Unilocal one night when I was out alone on a work trip to SF. I stopped in for a drink and stayed for a few hours. I love the charm of this place and the welcoming nature. The bar kind of naturally selects for people willing to have a conversation with the person next to them. Also, there’s a great burger place nearby that you can go and bring food back from(grab a burger for the bartender too).

The smallest bar in the world. Period. I mean that in a good way by the way. The staff is what makes this place great. They introduce themselves and get to know you by name. When I was visiting San Fran, I wanted to get a couple of drinks before I went back home. Looked this place up and saw that they had some good reviews but didn’t look at the pictures on how small it was hahaha. Walked in and people were playing a card game and invited us in to play. Awesome. They only have bottle beer, but a good variety. No food. Cash only. Wish they had some beers on tap and would accept credit cards.
