Good riddance! They were TERRIBLE. The hostess was TERRIBLE. The owners were TERRIBLE. The health inspection score was pretty low. Serious issue with the hostess(see other bad reviews) and the owners completely ignored my professionally written complaint. Completely. And now they’re out of business. And I’m still here. Laughing at them. Good riddance, you rotten, rotten people. Welcome to Tsubasa Sushi. Same space. Still sushi. New owners.

The only reason I am writing this is because of how poorly the situation was handled when I called the restaurant post worst food poisoning ever. New years eve dinner delivered from this restaurant left me agressivly vomiting for almost 8 hours straight. It was the most fast acting and hardcore food poisoning experiences ever. And on nye? Really? There goes my first weekend off in forever. I’m barely feeling the strength to get out of bed 2 days later. I don’t like writing bad Unilocal. So I called the restaurant to let them know so hopefully no one else would get sick. And they simply replied with, «I’m so sorry ma’am.» Sorry, not going to cut it after the misery I’ve been through. Can I get my money back please?

Pretty good sushi spot we stumbled upon before heading the the Nutcracker ballet. We got there around 5:30 which must have been the perfect time because right after that, crowds of people came in. Good happy hour menu with sushi, yakitori and some tuna options. I wouldn’t say the sushi is the best, but we loved the Tuna poke salad so much so that we ordered a 2nd order of it. Chicken karaage was a little flavorless. Will be back next time I’m in the area!

Review for delivery: I ordered the Giants roll, salmon avocado hand roll and uni nigiri. I got a call that they were out of uni but would send me 3 pieces of another nigiri instead. I ended up getting the Giants roll, salmon avocado MAKI(not hand roll) and only 2 pieces of nigiri. So I ended up overpaying and not getting what I ordered. I recommend checking what you get if you order form here.

Sitting amongst pretentious, hipsterly eateries and drinkeries of Hayes valley that seem to be sprouting like mushrooms after the rain, The One is an unassuming but good-quality sushi restaurant. I’m not a classic sushi connoisseur in the strictest sense of the word, but I can only applaud The One for an inventive menu, generous fish sizes on their rolls and friendliness of the staff, especially the waitress named Leslie. Food is great, but due to the place’s setup, it’s not the coziest of restaurants. Plus, you will probably hear the loud conversations all around you, so if you can, get the tables by the window or way by the back wall. The only thing I don’t get is the name. «The One»? As good as it is, it’s a bit too ambitious.

Solid sushi joint in Hayes Valley. I was actually surprised at the reasonable prices for this place. I usually skip miso soup since its $ 4 or more at most places, but it was only $ 2 at this place. I went with two other friends and we ordered four rolls total, plus poke and edamame and felt full afterwards. All the fish tasted fresh and they had a good balance of traditional rolls and specialty rolls. Service left something to be desired because we had to remind our waitress a couple times about what we ordered, but all in all it was a pleasant experience and I will definitely be coming back!

Great Japanese place to eat! Nice ambience and great food with just the right serving for the right price! I had the Bento Box with Tempura and Chicken Teriyaki. Comes with soup and salad and rice. I finished my plate!

Better than your average Sushi restaurants in SF, and thats saying a lot because there is a lot. As far as the food goes, its good place to eat sushi where the rice is prepared correctly. And has a good selection of fish and seafood. Again better than the average, with better quality and selection. The rolls are even better, one thing California does well is sushi rolls. Second part of my review is addressing complaints about the happy hour. Really? You would give this place a negative or low review because you like the food, and the«deal» you get with happy hour prices. But the time you missed is deemed a bad review? For folks reading these, I suggest skipping the negativity for being cheap. I think this place has great food with a great atmosphere.

I’ve had sushi at a few sushi restaurants in my travels to the Bay Area. This is by far my favorite. Don’t get caught up with the high end sushi restaurants that focus only in presentation and not so fresh. Come to one sushi and get everything you expect and at great prices Next day: I’m here again. I can’t get enough of a great thing. Absolutely, Jenny has a great team here

Jenni went above and beyond as our server and the Sushi Chefs too. They totally went along with us and made some creative out of the box creations that we will never forget. «The Japanese Kiss» and those oysters w quail eggs, unreal!!!

Good for lunch. Ordered a bento box with chicken katsu and california roll for $ 9.95. Includes a miso soup, rice, and a salad. Miso soup tasted a bit weird, but everything else was standard, nothing special but filling. I wouldn’t mind coming back for lunch. It seems to fill up quick after 12:00, so get here before then.

I was walking with my friends and I saw this restaurant. I could not expect their foods were so great and I will definitely come back next time! The octopus sashimi and beef tataki were my favorites dishes, sushi were good also.

Came here for lunch with some coworkers today. I ordered the bento box with teriyaki beef and tempura($ 9.95) as well as a spicy tuna roll. I asked for my beef to be cooked medium rare and no ginger/wasabi for my roll and the server actually got my order right(most people forget about the no ginger/wasabi request). The beef was cooked to perfection and the sauce was not too salty. The tempura was lightly fried and super crispy. They include eggplant in their tempura, which is also a plus in my book. I didn’t expect to finish everything but I gobbled everything up because everything was so yummy. Our server was very attentive and friendly. She even let our party of five pay with separate credit cards because it wasn’t a busy day. I definitely plan on coming back soon =)

I order take-out from here because it’s so close to my house. I find the food to be very delicious. The hand rolls are great — the specialty rolls too. Last time, I got the katsumaki roll and was very pleased. The sun rise/devil’s eyes is SO good. I can’t stop thinking about it. Also — if you order on GrubHub they offer $ 5 off of $ 25 — great deal!

HH has changed from 630 to 6. The menu and business cards still state 6:30. I got there at 6:02 and they acted like it was my fault they didn’t have updated documentation.(The business cards still state 6:30 too!) I loved it before but not so much now. Dislike.

Note to self: Don’t trust sushi places that don’t have Japanese names. A case of racial profiling? Hey, if it means I get a fresher slice of hamaichi, I say why not. There may be exceptions to this rule, for instance, I still haven’t tried Sushi Time in the Castro. But I think it’s safe to stick by my rule. Case in point: The One Sushi & Lounge. Sure, it’s not enough to serve sushi these days. I guess you have to have a lounge, too. And it’s better than, say, Ralph’s Sushi & Bait Shop. Hey, don’t steal that name. I plowed my IRA into that. Anyway, I came by The One after work one evening simply because I didn’t know what the space turned into after the Crêpe House shuttered its Hayes Valley location. Geography doesn’t help them much. It has the misfortune of being on the same stretch of Gough as heartier Euro-centric eateries like Chez Maman West, Dobbs Ferry, and Monsieur Benjamin — all of whom serve the dishes expected from them in an often exceptional manner. For some reason, The One can’t seem to take advantage of its unique position with the more adventurous Nojo a couple of blocks away. It’s definitely popular at happy hour as I could only secure a seat at the sushi counter. I took advantage of my view of the fish and ordered the $ 12 Rainbow Maki and the $ 7 Sea Urchin(Uni) Nigiri(photo: ). Gosh, it missed on both counts lacking the seaworthy freshness I was anticipating. As something of a chaser, I ordered the $ 6 Chicken Yakitori which I found oversaturated with teriyaki sauce(photo: ). The poultry itself was Costco grade with barely any sign that it had life in it before last year. Saving the meal was surprisingly a starter I treated as my entrée, the $ 8 Ahi Poki(photo: ). This time, the sauce didn’t detract from the freshness of the tuna chunks. It worked, and it made me wonder if the owners should rethink their concept of The One as a Hawaiian bistro much like Grindz is trying to do out in the Richmond. That way they can keep the name because I sure don’t want it. Hmm, how about Hirohito’s Sushi & Saimin Palace? Now I’d consider eating at a place with that name. FOOD — 3 stars… middling sushi lacks freshness, yakitori lacks meatiness, but the poki saves it by a fin AMBIANCE — 3 stars… loungy spot and busy at happy hour SERVICE — 3.5 stars… nice enough TOTAL — 3 stars… Hayes Valley could use a fresh sushi spot, probably not this one… maybe boats in a moat could help

Lunch specials are good. 2 – 3 rolls with miso for under $ 9. Or a bento box with salad, rice and miso for $ 9. The wakame salad is lacking some juice– seemed a bit dry, but for $ 4 it was plentiful. Have gone for happy hour and yes it is a steal! Better off buying a bottle of wine with good sushi deals. For lunch, the rice seemed a bit dryer than I would have liked. Chicken Katsu was good, but could consist of more meat on the breaded goodness. Green tea is really good, tastes like a mellow soup. Also had spicy tuna and California roll– good, but thought the rice was a bit dry. For the price, it’s so worth it compared to other Hayes valley sushi restaurants. It’s the only one opened for Lunch as well.

Lunch and Dinner are different menus. I’ve been for lunch twice, and I like it. The menus are not the same(I’m not sure of the full extent), but I can definitely tell you that the prices are different. I’m sure the crowd varies. From light mid-week lunch, to busier pay-day Friday lunches going into the weekend. At Night, I have no idea what goes down here. But, its a good space, so I’m guessing its good. They have some Happy Hours Specials. The Good: 1. The Rolls. The Rolls. The Rolls. I can vouch for the Giants Roll and the 49ers Roll. They also have some other gems. 2. Lunch Specials. 2⁄36-Piece Rolls for $ 7.95/$ 10.95. I wish I could have photographed the plates I saw being put together. 3. Cool Space. Nice big Sushi Bar. 2⁄4 Tops ring the rest of the floor, with some ability to seat larger parties. If you’re sitting at the bar, it’s fun to see the chefs do their work. 4. I didn’t have one, but I saw the Hand-Roll today, and it looked WAY above average. Need to go. 5. Good Miso. The Improvable: 1. Shrug. I can’t point to a single weak-shot. Come up with even better food? 2. It is good in my eyes, but I don’t think it’s the best I’ve had. It could be tastier. 3. Nigiri-wise, I think the quality is good, but not great. And, I qualify my own assessment saying that I have a limited knowledge. But, I have had better. 4. If you’re in a rush at lunch(and I have been fine with the pace), you might be in trouble. I like this place, and I haven’t even touched its Happy Hour. It is in a vague way my Nara in Hayes Valley. Not really, but sorta. Good menu and good space. Excellent service. But, the fish could be better. If you’re a Hayes Valley luncher, give it a try. And post a review.
