Very sad. Gone nearly one year ago and the space remains vacant. Not one food establishment has taken over for Snack Depot, Tully’s, or Maya.

How I miss the Snack Depot. and my Hot Chicken Club on Dutch Crunch add BBQ … This was the best sandwich place in San Francisco until the landlords and their stupidity shut it down. If the former owners are reading this, please let us know if you start up a new place. I will be the first in line.

So sad to see this awesome place go. They made my favorite falafel plate. Here’s more information about Kilroy and how they got the property:

This place is awesome! Shame on Kilroy Properties for being complete corporate bastards and trading their lease for some commercial chain competitor. Look forward to visiting the folks here when they relocate! Sounds like they may stay in the neighborhood and I’ll be bringing them my business. Sandwiches here are amazing. Fresh produce and products all wrapped with care. I’ll miss having them so close.

Talk about a secret spot! It’s located inside a business building and is tucked away around a corner in the lobby. Trying to decide on a sandwich wasn’t easy. They had a ton to choose from. They even had wraps, burritos and gyros. I was so overwhelmed by the choices I went with a basic BLT. It was bigger than I expected and decently priced. It was filled with lots of bacon, just the right amount of lettuce, tomato and mayo. I plan on going back to try their gyros.

Such a money sandwich shop. Especially for an area that lacks real good deli style type of sandwiches. The Snack Depot is lovingly called the«The Secret Sandwich Shop» because It’s kind of hidden in the lobby of one of the office buildings to the left of Maya. This was one of my favorite lunch spots in SOMA. The highlight of this place are the sandwiches and I wouldn’t deviate from the sandwiches as the wraps aren’t all that special. The showstopper is that bread they use on the sandwiches. It’s so damn soft and moist you just want to grab a whole damn loaf and cuddle with it. Not much else you can really say about a cold cut sandwich, but it’s a cheaper alternative to places like Specialty’s, Madeleine that are in the area.

Update2: gahh, they are closing soon… the building’s owner are kicking them out… that is, not renewing their lease so they can attract«higher-end» tenants. :! Update1: $ 1.95 for this huge chocolate chip muffin( ). Tried the Philly Cheesesteak and it was also good if a bit messy. Got soggy however since the large sandwich took time to eat. The Old Fashioned Melt was huge( ), just like their other sandwiches! On the first visit I tried The Club. Theirs was tasty and I liked it a lot and will get again. The mix of flavors and texture seemed perfect; not too salty nor bland, not too crunchy nor soft. On the second visit, I tried the Italian Melt and liked that even more than The Club! I think it’s the sauce/dressing/spread in the sandwiches. Most positive Unilocal reviews listed more than one sandwich so it’s no fluke. It also helps the sandwiches are pretty big, and they toast the bread so your sandwiches are never soggy Will return often, yes. Strictly take-out and prices are very, very reasonable for SOMA! This place is like a convenience store that doubles as a sandwich deli, but located on the ground floor of an office building( ). Instead of a deli with chairs and tables, in their places are things you would find in a 7 – 11( ) or a snack shop( ). Five stars even though there are no tables and chairs. The owner, George, works the register and bags the sandwiches — very friendly guy. They have a decent breakfast menu( ). You just get your order and sit out in the huge courtyard outside the building and eat away.

It’s a little tucked away(inside the lobby of an office building and around the corner), but this is a perfectly respectable place to a grab sandwich for lunch, especially if the weather’s nice enough to eat outside. It doubles as a convenience store too. They don’t skimp here, as the sandwiches are bigger and fatter than average. I ordered the hot chicken club and walked away from my lunch feeling full and satisfied, but the flavor was about average. Nothing special in it to really set it apart. $ 7-ish. I’ll be coming back, since I work pretty close by, but wouldn’t otherwise go out of my way to eat here. It certainly caters to the lunchtime crowd in the area.

A little hard to find, but, damn, that’s a good sandwich. My personal favorite is the italian melt on dutch crunch, with extra peppers; although, if I’m feeling like something lighter, the turkey & mustard on wheat is also pretty great. My only real complaint is that the sandwiches are maybe 30% too big(esp. if you get the rolls). Beyond that, the service is friendly and great, and the price is hard to beat. On a sunny day the triangle outside is a great place to sit and enjoy the people watching /great weather.

My coworkers took me here for the first time(they’ve been coming here for a while). All I knew is we were going to a hole in the wall deli/convenience store. I wasn’t expecting much, but I was hungry, so I tagged along. I was definitely pleasantly surprised! There were a lot of good-looking sandwiches, but I finally decided upon the #14(turkey, avocado, jack, on whole wheat bread, and I added sprouts and extra pickles). While they made my sandwich, I grabbed a container of fresh strawberries and ordered a mocha. The sandwich was perfect, and they didn’t charge me for the extra sprouts and pickles, which was nice. I didn’t notice the option to make the mocha a soy, which I will definitely do next time! The mocha was a little pricey for the size, but it tasted really good, so I’m not too bothered by it. They had a lot of sandwich choices, as well as a good-looking salad and wrap bar, and a large selection of convenience store items. And I noticed that they have frozen yogurt(and a selection of sprinkles)! All in all, I am very satisfied with this place, and will definitely be back! And they DO take credit cards(I paid with one) :-)

I usually come here for snacks only, so i can’t comment on their sandwiches or other lunch items. George(?) is very friendly and service seems fairly fast. I’ll be back to try lunch items next time

The menu selection for sandwiches, wraps, schwarma, and Middle-Eastern specialties is extensive to the point of being overwhelming, particularly because so many items are printed on individual sheets of paper and taped up all over. The beef kufta kabbo wrap I had was both very good and VERY large. I loved the lavash bread(similar to a tortilla) used for the wrap though it did tear, making it messier to eat. Most options are around $ 7. A large drink case dominates one wall and overlooks a standard convenience store array of snacks and pharmacy goods. Unusual though, it the extensive selection of greeting cards and the small rack of pantyhose and socks. If you’re looking for a new lunch spot, this is a solid. If your boss has damaged hosiery and a presentation today, score some points and send them here!

Delicious sandwiches. Stick to the sandwiches. A couple of co-workers got adventurous and ordered wraps or burrito type items and they were a mess. If you stick with what they’re good at it will be delicious. I had a standard roast beef sandwich with everything, it had some jalapeños on it which was not something I expected but was surprisingly good.

It’s my fave place for lunch during the work week! The roast beef melt reminded me sooo much of the roast beef sandwich from Roxie’s. So one day, I told George(owner) that I loved that his sandwiches and they were as good as Roxie’s and he told me that he was cousins with the Roxie’s owner. So if you love Roxie’s, you’ll love Snack Depot just as much! Roast beef melt, tuna melt, and the turkey melt are my faves. There are days I get the cold versions. Chicken Parmesan and the Meatball sandwiches are also on my list. I’ve yet to try the wraps and the breakfast items other then the muffins. My friend told me one day they had muffins. I think I ate the chocolate chip muffin everyday for about 2 weeks, it was that good! I never knew about ‘em cause they would run out before lunch. The bran muffin is good, reminds me of a carrot cake muffin minus the cream cheese frosting. The banana-nut muffin also comes without the nuts and they also have a good blueberry muffin. While waiting for your order you’re welcome to read the magazines or you can call ahead 415−546−6201. Yah, I got the card here on my desk. So what? and yesss, I am Unilocaling while at work. Again, so what? =)

Ah, I’ve never eaten a meatball sandwich until now. Rounding out the week’s trifecta of Algiers and Sentinel, Snack Depot has won my heart for middle of the road(in price and creativity) sandwiches. Things I appreciated with this sandwich: 1. Smaller balls. Usually, small balls are a bad thing, but when it comes sandwiched in between buns, the smaller the better to prevent the balls from falling out of the buns. 2. Spiced balls. It actually tasted good with or without sauce. 3. Plenty of balls. I didn’t have 1 bite without a ball in my mouth. 4. Soft buns. I’m usually seen tearing away at meatball sandwiches with marinara sauce spilling all over and balls flying everywhere, but the bread here at Snack Depot is actually very soft and easy to eat. All the balls were in the right place(in my mouth, rather than on the ground) during lunch. While it’s a fairly longer walk to this location, it’ll be worth it when I’m craving the balls. Oh, the sandwich was good here too.

This«secret» sandwich spot is not so secret anymore. Their meatball sandwich is still one of the yummiest, most ginormous sandwiches you can get in downtown. Like I said in my original review — perfectly toasted bread, meatball, sauce, cheese, pesto — hold everything else(no need for lettuce or tomatoes which will get soggy anyway). Trust me. And if you’re not into meatballs they have a ton of other amazing sandwiches to choose from.

Unilocalers! You all rock! Were it not for you, there is no way I would have found this place. Tucked inside of an office building, Snack Depot serves up pretty much everything I love, including lattes, wraps and froyo. My first time(everyone has a first, right), was for lunch, featuring chicken, veggies and hummus wrapped in lavash. The first bite was good, the second was even better and so on, until every last bite was devoured. I loved how my wrap was not on the menu — it was totally custom built to my picky specifications(no cheese, but mind putting a little hummus on there, etc). And I loved even more that the friendly lady helping us was so proud of her lentil concoction that she effusively include a sample with our wraps. Now that’s love for what you do.

If it’s still in business and it’s close to Lee’s & Maya, you know it’s gotta be pretty good. I worked in the North Tower so for the first three months, I had no idea that The Snack Depot even existed. As I was getting tired of eating the same things everyday, Unilocal introduced me to the Snack Depot. They don’t have $ 4 sandwiches like Lee’s but their sandwiches are bigger and better. I love pastrami so I always ordered pastrami sandwiches and they are very tasty. I think it cost about $ 6.50. One time I tried the bongo burger — I’d recommend that you stay away for it. It was kind of interesting… and not in a good way. Their convenience store portion carries everything from ice cream to cereal to combination locks and pantyhose. I never«needed» anything but it’s nice to know that if you work in the area, you can just stop by to grab something you need.

Their chicken parm on their sando is grilled and not fried or breaded. Not your traditional chicken parm but healthy and scrumptious. Be sure to hold the jalapenos, if you don’t any heat, they add them to most hot sandwiches. Best breakfast burrito in the area. Try the PB&J muffin which they make from scratch. The owner George is very nice and takes care of his regular customers! Don’t give quizno’s or subway a consideration. Go to George’s NOW.

Coworkers steered me to this hidden spot, which reminds me of a typical NY corner deli. I was thrilled that I can finally say I’ve found a place in SF that serves an egg sandwich for under $ 2! But, it was lunchtime. Excited by the potential, I ordered the litmus test of all delis. Can they make a Chicken Parmesan sandwich(CPS)? Sadly, no, at least not properly. You see, a CPS is: — breaded, crisp/crunchy chicken cutlet — decent quality tomato sauce. jarred will do in a pinch — decent quality mozzarella cheese — a roll, round or oblong will do. bonus points for toasting the roll Things a CPS does not have: — fresh tomato — grilled chicken cutlet — vegetables To be fair, on the last one, they asked if I wanted«everything». Well, yeah, everything I listed above that SHOULD go in a CPS. I will return and try other sandwiches, so take this as constructive criticism. Anyone who can sell an egg sandwich for under $ 2 in this city can do ANYTHING. PS — there’s a nice area outside the building where people sit and eat their lunch on those warm sunny days.
