I love the menudo here! So good. I do not understand how this place is not packed every weekend?! It is soo good and the service is great. They are super attentive. Food is a good, prices are good and the portions are big, overall great food. I go a few times a month. Never dissapointed. If you haven’t gone yet you should check this place out!

A friendly restaurant with great food. I love their margaritas with their chips and salsa. A family run business in the heart of 24st neighborhood. Easy parking too if you go around 6 pm. If you crave Mexican Food, this place will satisfy your needs and with a down home, friendly atmosphere.

Without a doubt the best carne asada tacos I’ve had since moving to the Bay Area from So. Cal! I always order(at least) two carne asada super tacos and find myself ordering one or two more after I’ve polished them off. Truly exceptional Mexican food… nice work Tio Chilo!

Amazing mexican soups, great service and personally greeted by the very own Tio Chilo! I’ve tried the Caldo de Res(to die for), Pozole(just the right spice) and panbazo(guilty pleasure.) This is a Mission must try!!!

I think I may have found my go-to Mexican spot now that El Zocalo has met its maker, sorta speak. On a recent Sunday morning, I was actually on my way to La Paz Pupuseria on Potrero but found it closed, shuttered actually and I wasn’t sure if it was permanent. I ended up walking aimlessly onto 24th Street with nothing but menudo on my mind. I had never heard of Tio Chilo’s, which didn’t surprise me since I usually walk as far as Harrison from the BART station and rarely stroll this stretch of 24th. Guess it’s been my loss because Tio Chilo’s turns out to be a clean, family-run jewel that appears to target the local Latino populace dressed in their Sunday best. I didn’t see any of the expected hipsters in this spot because it lacks that certain coolness factor. No, it’s actually a sunny place, well-kept with a lot of tables. I was surprised to find they bill themselves as a «Mexican-Italian» restaurant because I didn’t see any pasta dishes until the last page of the menu. I was a little hesitant at that point since these cross-border cuisines rarely succeed since the countries aren’t even in the same hemisphere. But I saw Menudo, available seven days a week, and I was hooked. A large bowl is $ 7.95, and the best part was the server asked me whether I wanted it «bone-in» like it was filet mignon. Of course, I do. It arrived, and indeed she was generous with the cartilage-infused bones and lots and lots of tripe(photo: ). It was a whole lotta menudo, but that didn’t stop me from ordering the $ 5.95 Vegetarian Quesadilla which I thought would be a nice, little side dish. Out comes a monstrous portion overstuffed with melted cheese, chopped fresh vegetables and guacamole. It had to be drawn and quartered it was so big(photo: ). Meanwhile, families kept pouring into the place, all dressed up and ready to eat. I was stuffed, especially since I ate almost all the chips in the basket, with, by the way, the most tongue-tingling salsa in the ‘hood(photo: ), so naturally I came back two weeks later on a Sunday again. Menudo, of course. But this time, I ordered two tacos, so topped with goodness that each had to come out on its own plate. Gluttony is so unbecoming on the day of rest, don’t you think? The tacos were pretty amazing. The $ 3.50 Fish Taco, regular size, was chock full of grilled fish, chopped onion and peppers(photo: ), while the $ 2.95 Vegetarian Taco was quite a bonanza with frijoles, queso, guacamole, con lechuga, crema and salsa(photo: ). Service was very warm and attentive but never overly friendly. Kudos especially to the woman I presume to be the owner who made sure to pay attention to the customers even as a stream of her friends and family walked in. Loved the dedication. Oh yeah, this could become a habit. FOOD — 5 stars… stellar menudo and abundant portions on everyday Mexican classics… I should try the Italian, shouldn’t I? AMBIANCE — 4 stars… pretty clean with plenty of tables, gets busy on Sunday afternoons after church services SERVICE — 4.5 stars… really unique in their laser customer focus TOTAL — 5 stars… like I said, this could turn into my go-to Mexican spot

One word: PoSoLe. Go there on the weekend and order it. Your taste buds will be singing as you walk out the doors. Oh, and they have spiced hot chocolate for those cold San Francisco summer nights.

Menudo, menudo, menudo! And the best chicken salad I’ve ever had, clean crisp lettuce with a crispy seasoned chicken breast and Mexican oregano dressing. YAASS! Plus homemade quality and the owner was beamingly happy to tell me about how his business is a family place and that Mission is a-changin! SUPPORTREALLOCAL.

First time in restaurant, my sister was bragging about. So we decided to treat my parents to lunch. The waitress was very nice and attentive. Food was great and delicious the drinks were exotic and different. So I give it a five stars do to the services and the food. I recommend you to stop by and give it a try!

Colorful diversity. Green sauce covering my shrimp. Menu says spicy but the server assured me it was mild. Indeed. So good I took the rest home. Red sauce covering my pasta. Don’t know of any other Mexican place where you can choose an Italian side dish. Had to do it. Glad I did. (mix the red and green sauce for something splendid) Black beans inside my chicken burrito. Also inside was a generous amount of chicken and ridiculous amount of flavor. Friendly service makes everything better. And more colorful.

My boyfriend’s close friends had their wedding reception here. The restaurant was closed to all other customers and was only open for our private party. The food was served buffet style which included carnitas, birria, Spanish rice, beans and home made corn tortillas. Carnitas were so good. They were not salty and literally melted in your mouth. Birria I preferred over the carnitas only because I prefer meat over pork. The meat was full of flavor and so tasty. Spanish rice and beans were also very good and I loved the home made tortillas. I enjoyed everything I had today. It was definitely authentic Mexican food. The service was also very good. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant as a whole is somewhat small but overall a must try Mexican restaurant.

We went there for breakfast for the first time today, despite living on the same block for a year and a half. From the outside, it just looked… too bright, too empty, and without enough character. Well, it doesn’t change much inside. I’m not sure what the problem is, but this place just doesn’t seem very cozy. They need music or something. Anyway, on to the food. Salsa: very spicy, and kind of watery. Not great. Tortilla chips were thin and crispy. Good. Huevos rancheros. Pretty good. The salsa on this is different from the chip salsa, thankfully. It comes with a side of rice and beans. They have black and pinto beans(vegetarian) and refried(with lard). Chilaquiles come with a choice or red or green sauce. They were also pretty good.

handmade corn tortillas are delicious… had the huevos rancheros for breakfast on a saturday morning at 8:45. This place is good enough that I should not be the only person in this place, despite the early hour. The salsa was fresh and nose-runny spicy(in a good way); the chips were light and crunchy. The huevos itself was a bit overly smothered in cheese and I’m not huge fan of refried beans, but overall it’s still a 4-star joint, especially for the price. Also, the woman who runs the place is very sweet and friendly and made sure I was taken care of. I wasn’t so psyched about the TV blaring some NatGeo show about crocodiles, but it seemed to fit the vibe.

I was lured in by the specials… $ 3.50 quesadillas. Chorizo y papas… OK! sold… Turned out to be very good, I’ll definitely be back. Not to soggy/greasy, not messy to eat, served with a nice pico de gallo, chips and a salsa that had a bright oregano hint. Nice! As for the«Italian food»… Well, I’ve never seen an Italian menu with so many misspelled Italian words: you draw the conclusion.
