in my experience, Torraku Ramen is the first to serve ramen via a food truck in the bay area. many options of ramen available, choose Tonkotsu chashu with med. spiciness and garlicky. locale: SF soma street park(2÷8÷16) eats: tonkotsu chashu, etc(12+tax) –first tasting of broth hinted a mistake in ordering spiciness, no tonkotsu flavor came thru, tonkotsu flavor too faint. -«chashu» just lean pork, not chashu at all. –½ egg was hard boiled and looked more like an tea egg, brownish in pigmentation, soy sauce flavored –bamboo, seaweed, chewy noodles rounded out the experience –everything tasted«fresh», though not authentic, some msg may be present, 2.5 stars for inauthencity, lack of value. temaki: –ramen came out in 5 minutes –server was concerned whether i was eating it right away. told him«yes» i know ramen doesn’t keep long. sogginess a possible dilemma.

Torraku Ramen is amazing!!! I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen with Chashu with Kakuni added, and it was delicious. The broth was scrumptiously and beautifully prepared with top notch ingredients. I added aged black garlic to this gourmet bowl of noodles which enhanced the flavor. Noodles, meat, veggies, soup base were all perfect. It’s damn near hard to find a ramen place in the bay area this good without having to wait 2 hours to be seated. Will definitely come back again!

I absolutely love tonkotsu ramen so have to try any bowl which is easily accessible. I’m not gonna travel to the peninsula to wait an hour or two for some strip mall ramen, but I’ll totally get a tonkotsu bowl from a nearby food truck. I often use Ippudo NY as my benchmark, since comparing to joints in Tokyo really isn’t fair. Theirs was just ok, hence the«A-OK» 3-star. Tonkotsu Ramen w/Kakuni, Black Garlic, Spicy: You pick your ramen, your garlic(black or fried) and your spicy level. I went with second spiciest(basically the highest level where you don’t have to pay extra). That was probably a mistake. Not because it was too spicy, but because it overpowered the flavor of the broth. It tasted more like chalky chili powder than it did like tonkotsu. Maybe the broth just wasn’t that distinctive if it couldn’t stand up to the chili powder? The kakuni(pork belly) was nice; tender and heavily infused with 5-spice. The noodles were decently chewy. The bamboo shoots were a bit too chewy. The seaweed was soggy from noodle steam after a quick walk home. The half soft boiled egg was nice and creamy.

The place seems relatively new but the Customer service was excellent. Pretty boy helped me pick my order of tonkatsu. The noodle soup was on point, hella meat but the soup was a little salty. Definitely coming back again though. #torrakuramen #comeforlunch #comefordinner #bringyourself #bringyourentirefamily #heckbringyourfriendsentirefamily

Super slow to order and make ramen. And way overpriced. Tax is not included. Spent about 40 minutes to get my ramen after ordering. Edit: owner contacted me and explained that they just opened and are still getting into the flow of things. I’ll try it again in the future and see if it’s improved

I guess my timing was better than the first poster; I got there well after the lunchtime peak and waited for 10 minutes for mine. It was their first day of operation, so perhaps one should cut them some slack. So how was the ramen? I liked my shoyu ramen with chashu just fine(though I’m not a ramen fanatic and therefore inexpert). It was piping hot, the medium curly noodles pleasantly chewy, and the broth deep in flavor and not overly salty. The(no cost) spicy option had the broth respectably spicy, so there’s no need to order the«Extra Spicy» add-on unless you are a chili head. Not a lot of protein in the toppings, but hey, it’s ramen. I don’t see a point in complaining about the price when you can see it up front before you order, though I am a little irritated when tax is added on, when most food trucks build it into the price. Double digit prices are, unfortunately, becoming the rule rather than the exception at new ramen joints.
