I’ve worked at UCSF for years without realizing this market existed. It’s just the basics – produce and some nuts, maybe 3 – 4(very nice) vendors – but if you live or work nearby it’s super handy to have a Wednesday market available to pick up fruit for the kids or something to cook for dinner. Almost everything is organic, and they know their customers; the peas and fava beans are shucked and ready to go, perfect for the long hours crowd at a medical campus. The prices are comparable to Alemany organics and the quality is good. I wish they sold prepared foods for lunch but this would probably violate the terms of the greasy spoons’ leases at Millberry Union. Finding this place takes a little searching, but follow the strands of DNA on the sidewalk from Parnassus Avenue, dogleg behind the bank of elevators, and presto.
