Absolutely superb diabetic care. Yes, it takes a million years to get your «new patient» appointment. After that, like the previous reviewer said, it’s much easier (though still not perfect).
Sometimes my primary doc falls a little short, Dr. Masharani always picks up the slack.
Also, the other reviewer is incorrect; Dr. Masharani works several days per week, Fridays are his pump patients, and other days for other parients like us non-​pumpers. If you are in a tight spot and need him ASAP the front desk folks — also superb — will make it happen.
Most sessions start with a med school type listening to all your boring stories about «I was worried about my toenail then it looked ok» or «I see a spot sometimes.» After jabbering w Junior for 15 – 20 min Big Daddy comes in and tells you what’s what.

Dr. Masharani is the best doc for diabetes that I have seen in all my years as a type I diabetic. A really pleasant bedside manner, and non-​confrontational. Most diabetics know their a1c is bad — they don’t need it drilled into their head. What we do need is baby steps on how to make it better, and a helpful doc to help us achieve our goals. Dr. Masharani does this perfectly.
Once you are an established patient, it is not as hard to get in.
Also UCSF is a leading researcher in diabetes — and have a great diabetes teaching center. I am so grateful this place is in my backyard!

UCSF Endocrine group does a great job assisting those with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. I see Dr Masharani and he is a great person, as is his staff. Its a university institution so it can be tough to get in, but if you are looking for top notch diabetic care, look into them.
