You have an incredibly short-​sighted return policy. You obviously have no interest in your customer. Thankfully your competition does.

Let me start by saying that I am a clothes junky and I shop the world for the clothing (I frequently buy items from Japan and Europe). I am also a very demanding and difficult customer. I demand high quality clothing, coupled with exemplary service. Unionmade is one of the few stateside stores that hits the mark for me. Their selection of clothing is outstanding and includes a broad range of superlative products, including many Japanese brands that cannot be purchased elsewhere in the US. Equally important, their service is second to none. They go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.
If I had to select one store for all my clothing needs, it would be Unionmade.

Just looked at a pair of well sweatpants and they are on sale at 40 percent off at the bargain price of $ 136 plus an extra 20 percent off today, What an incredible savings for sweatpants… NOT! I would NEVER! This place is crazy!

Excellent service. Great selection. Awesome merchandise. Seriously, this is what grown-​up men’s store should be like.

4 stars for the GQ like vibe, 3 stars for the prices. I can’t reconcile the hipster, J. Crew like aesthetic with the Barney’s prices. Great selection though and if you imagine GQ in a real life store, this is what you get.
I love Aesop, Baxter of California, and Shinola. They stock all 3 and much more. Always a good spot to come check out after getting your Philz or Reville coffee fix nearby.

The Store Manager is a liar and a total jerk. I called asking about the fourth of July holiday hours of their sister store, Mill Mercantile, since the girls at Mill do not answer the phone during their posted business hours, and since the store was randomly closed — twice — when we stopped by during their advertised business hours. When I called and told him what happened, he first listened intently, and responded that he intends to «write up» two of his employees. (!?) I didn’t ask him to get anyone in trouble… I just called to clarify Mills’ hours so that we could return when they open, and buy what we need to buy. Then, he took down my name and number, and called me back about 30 minutes later to tell me that he looked into it, and Mill *was* in fact open when we stopped by. I am sorry, but are you seriously doubting that we went and it was closed? He said the POS system was shut down at 7pm, so they must have been open. He then went into detail about how Mill’s facebook and twitter pages detail their holiday hours (even though their website doesn’t), and that we can check those. I got home and checked their social media pages — again, another lie. Their holiday hours are not posted on twitter nor on facebook. He wasted about 15 minutes of my time trying to justify his (and his stores’) incompetence, rather than simply answering my question about when I should try coming back. Horrible customer service. My fiancé and I do not intend to return to either one of these stores (Unionmade or Mill). Which is too bad for them, because we were previously spending thousands of dollars per year here. You can easily find everything they sell from other sources online, anyway. Not worth the hassle of interacting with these egotistical clowns.

A classic example of how sales associates treat others better than others.
Came in with my white friend to show him the brand. (He’s never shopped there before). Two sales associates offered him help. Nobody approached me (I’m asian)
Odd… I was wearing all clothes from Union made at their online store. One of the sales associates even told another to tail me saying «you got eyes on that guy?»
My friend and I laughed on our way out. I spent thousands on their online store, but now have vowed never to shop at union made again.
PS you can get any of the Japanese Brands they carry on Rakuten for half the price union made charges. You also won’t get prejudice customer service.

I have never experienced such rudeness and pretentiousness in a retail or service establishment. I have also filed my first complaint with the Better Business Bureau and encourage all consumers to do so for businesses that follow unethical practices.
Summary: I asked the employee if the 20% sale was the final sale and she said yes; five days later, it turned to a 40% sale.
I bought a Natic Marine vest and a Unionmade button-​down on Saturday ²⁄₁₄ for $ 274.92. Before buying, I asked the employee, Ellen, specifically if this was the last markdown sale. She said yes. This information was crucial to my decision to buy the items because I did not «need,» them or feel time-​pressure to buy them. I felt happy to wait if there would be a further markdown. I then saw that the sale went to 40% then described as the «Final 40%.» I brought this to their attention and requested that I be refunded the 20% difference because of their misleading and dishonest sales practices.
After rudeness from the anonymous email responder online, I was directed to Brandon, the store manager. He was not in and I was directed again to Ellen. She said that she completely understood the situation but they would not refund it. She said that my buying the items then were «securing the size» of the items because otherwise they might not be available. I asked if the owners, including Todd Barket, were notified and in agreement and she said yes. I reached out to Brandon, who has yet to respond.
I think this is deceitful especially since I asked Ellen specifically about the final sale. I was making my purchase decision on that information, and not buying to «secure my size.» As I previously explained, I did not care that strongly for the items and would have preferred the risk of not having my size or even stock for the 20% further discount. I do not think it is their right to make that decision for me. It is extremely misleading. It is also considered false information, even if she did not know it at the time, and the correct course of action from my point of view would be to acknowledge and accept responsibility for the deceit and honor my request.

The first store in the world that tells you once bring back something you bought on sale: «Sorry, all sales are final». «That’s a policy of the store». Who said that? No one. But this one, who was so nice with you, is telling you that you have to keep this article that does not really fit. So think twice to buy anything on this very expensive and very charming.

This used to be one of those unique stores to buy decent clothing but lately… the stuff they have in terms of quality (materials, where it is made, etc.) doesn’t line up with the prices they are asking. The only thing that is decently priced are some their shoes (ex Aldens) but other than that… I don’t get it.

This has got to be the epitome of mens casual wear in SF. Pricey, yes, but great selection (especially for shorter men, like me) and forward thinking on most trends. You might spend more on a piece there, but you’ll get compliments on it everyday and it will last you a lifetime. So what price is quality worth to you? I was helped by Julie, and she was able to suggest multiple awesome pieces for my wardrobe — I walked out of there with the perfect Patagonia vest! And the best part? It was on sale! Always a pleasurable shopping experience, the store and the service is second to none. Keep it up, guys!

This place does not except returns. They’re not transparent about it. They’re not nice about it either. I bought a shirt on Sunday and returned it the next day with all the tags and they would not even accept an exchange for a different size.
If I could pick a symbol of the pretentiousness that is San Francisco, this would be it.
Staff with the expressions of the dead on their face? Check. Ludicrous prices? Check.
Ironic name? Check.
I guarantee the owners wouldn’t know a union if it was protesting outside their front door.
But they will let you bring your little dog into the store.

Pricey but awesome stuff. Really unique items and classics like Pendleton shirts and Alden shoes. Your wallet will be lighter as you walk out, but you’ll do so in style.

I don’t get it. The clothes are just really expensive versions of the clothes you’d wear if you were, I don’t know, chopping down a tree, or hiking to Alaska. Why would I pay this kind of money to look like a lumberjack? And why is it called Union Made when the clothes are not union-​made?

When I stumbled upon this store while in San Francisco last year the staff was quite helpful. The prices weren’t too good, but it can be difficult to find clothes that fit me and they worked hard. With that in mind, I went specifically to their web site to buy something else. Big mistake.
Their online presence was a complete disaster that I will never repeat. Here is what happened.
I was able to find what I wanted and proceeded to check out. The site acted funny about my credit card, so I did it again. I suspected I had a typo in the credit card number or something, but after a few tries I finally got it to work. Or did I?
Next thing I know my credit card is locked down for a security exception. I initially blamed the card but after calling my bank was surprised to find the Union Made transactions flagged me! You can imagine the amount of effort it took to get that sorted out, but I acknowledged one charge for Union Made and let the bank know that the ones that did NOT go through were somehow errors. Great, one charge for my purchase going through, now I will get my pants! Since I expect to buy from them again I also sent an email to Union Made to ask them what happened that their site got me flagged.
When Union Made replied a few days later and told me they had cancelled my order! Why? Because «Our processing system was unable to validate the information provided in association with your method of payment». The order cleared through my bank, the money got deducted, what can they not validate? My favorite part was when I had to call my card again and tell them to remove the charge since Union Made didn’t get the refund quite right, either.
Worst. Online. Experience. Ever.
So I bought my pants at Brooklyn Denim and I’m wearing them now as I write this review. No hassle, no bad attitude, no shipping charges, no credit card hassles.

If you’re into men’s style/​fashion/​menswear/​retail/​whatever you want to call it, like me (don’t mind the Obey t-​shirt — that’s from ’05), it’s hard to give this place less than 4 stars just for the sheer quantity and quality of brands they carry, not to mention countless exclusive collabos, and a top-​notch retail/​online experience. Like if everything else about the store was complete shit, you still would feel inclined to give it 4 stars, because at the end of the day it’s all about the jawnz anyways.
It’s geared towards Americana/​workwear, which I’ve steadily moved away from since ’09, but like I said, they carry so much shit you cannot classify the store really. I always find something I want there. Extra props for carrying certain hard-​to-​find Japanese labels too. And I don’t really know how the hell they actually sell even half of their stuff, but I hear they’re doing well, so what the hell do I know.
I did not enjoy my most recent trip there, though. Put simply, the SAs just aren’t very friendly. It’s one thing for attractive female SAs to be snotty to plebs like me, but a male americana hipster? I thought their whole Americana/​workwear vibe also implicitly carried some old-​fashioned customer service experience as well. But nah, there’s nothing old-​fashioned here, especially the prices, and most definitely not the service. Also, I this store’s killing it, yet they still don’t allow for refunds (for in-​store purchases).
Anyways, they recently f’d up and sent me 2 pairs of pants for the price of one. So I guess we’re good.

I spend a lot of money supporting independent clothing stores and recently UnionMade came across my radar.
Living in New York City, I took a chance, and ordered two expensive shirts by brands I know (Gant and New England Shirt Co). The shirts arrived later than expected and in the interim I had to fly to Europe for business. Upon return I tried on the shirts which did not fit (odd cuts for both brands) and was basically told «tough luck» by a woman named Rose when I requested to return them for a refund. This is appalling.
Rose stated said she was as high and I could escalate the matter and there 7 day return policy was set in stone even despite my circumstances.
I will not do business with a company with such deplorable customer service and neither should you

I ordered a jacket from them online. The jacket was three sizes larger than their listed size chart (I’m assuming the jacket was mislabeled). I asked for a simple return. They basically told me «tough luck.»
Is this how a retailer should behave? Most certainly not. Shameful in my opinion.

Overwhelmingly awesome. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to really look around like I otherwise would have wanted to due to dinner obligations, But I did get to have a highly knowledgable staff member help me find some selvage denim that ended up working perfectly for me.
I would definitely recommend this place for any man who likes to put in thought and effort toward his outfits.
