I used to docent house tours for them when I was younger (read: be their bitch for a day) and that’s about as far as I got in their organization, snot-​nosed young whippersnapper of a preservationist that I am. You could criticize them for being elitist, but if you had been on the frontlines of the slum-​clearance movement, desperately trying to hold onto your architectural treasures in the face of a hostile public policy, you might be too.
