This review is for the chow fun with gravy and yang chow fried rice. I really wanted to give Wang Wah 5 stars, but the chow fun’s ratio of fun to beef and vegetables were off. Too much fun with scanty bits of beef, bok choy, and gravy. The yang chow fried rice was quite bad. The rice was too soft, not enough soy sauce/seasonings. Again, everything was dis proportioned again :( On a positive note, the portions were huge. I ordered 2 dishes, but I think it is enough for 4 ppl.

The food, the smell coming from the kitchen, even the way this place looks reminds me of my aunt’s house where everyone got together. That was the place I would take my shoes off, wear someone’s ugly sweater, drink some random soupy medicine stuff I’m forced to drink lest I die a premature and painful death before laying on the sofa with the«clink clink» sound of MJ tiles on the tables lulling me to sleep before waking to an abundance of lovingly cooked food on the dinner table. The meals I have had here transported me to that place. Certain types of home style cooking does that to me. Interestingly enough, this isn’t my home, and these wonderful people aren’t my family. My photographs speak to what I ordered. It was really affordable despite ordering ala carte instead of their inexpensive pre-set menus for groups of 2 or 4. This isn’t a fancy restaurant by any means. The food will not resemble mass produced gross Panda Express or Westernized watered down weird versions of Chinese food. No, this restaurant does it the way it should be done. I like that. I like that a lot DON’T ORDERTHEWONTONSOUP! It wasn’t good, which makes me sad because the owner gave us an extra family sized bowl while we waited for the whole fried fish. I’m so happy I found this place. I am happy I got to enjoy a delicious dinner with my girls. I think we all need to find that one place that we can sit down and eat a fuss free meal that makes us feel… like home. My initial visit was for family dinner. I visited several times after that to pick up lunch specials that are delicious and inexpensive! If you are in the neighborhood, stop by or phone your order in for pickup. Ah — one last important detail: NOMSG.

If I can put zero stars, I really would. If you are NOT Chinese, do not come here. Let me say that again, IFYOUARENOTCHINESE, DONOTCOMEHERE. My best friend and I come in, was stared at by the people working here, but not seated right away. When we finally got seated, we didn’t get a menu, instead we stood up and got a menu ourselves since the waitress just kept passing our table like no one was sitting there. As soon as we were ready to order, we called on the waitress, but we were told to WAIT since a CHINESE man just walked in, was brought to his table immediately and given tea and the menu. Wtf. Worst service ever. We ended up leaving and going to the Chinese place next door where we were helped immediately.

First experience here was good as the main aged waitress(owner?) seemed nice, personable, and attentive. I got the dry sautéed string beans with chicken and added extra chicken for two dollars. The food portion was pretty good sized, but I had to pay for it out of the pocket. The food however did not have much flavor, but I was pretty happy with the portion size. Second experience: This time the same aged waitress almost ignored me, had me standing around, and then finally seated me after flagging her down. I ordered the same dish the dry sautéed green beans, but with shrimp. The same waitress said it was okay to add two dollars for extra shrimp. The portion size on the shrimp was too small and she charged me three dollars extra instead of the two dollars we agreed on. I’m also noticing that this time the waitress is ignoring me after my meal was served and I had to flag her down several times to get my check. Third and last experience: When I walked in once again the aged waitress ignored me and had me standing around again. The aged waitress was too busy«laughing it up» and smiling in a partial manner with the almost all Chinese patrons. The waitress ignored me so much to the extent that her son had to wait on me. The aged waitress’s son is not very friendly, not personable, and seemed disinterested in anything but getting the order over with. On this visit I ordered the broccoli with prawns. The broccoli with prawns included(14) small sized prawns, which are no bigger then the mediocre regular sized shrimp(not prawns) at Safeway. The meal was just okay, not much flavor, and the portion size for the prawns was much to be desired. During my meal I noticed that the aged waitress ignored me even more this time while patronizing exclusively with the Chinese customers. I tried asking the aged waitress twice for a container for my food and was ignored. The third time I asked the aged waitress for a container she finally acknowledged me, but gave me a slightly disgusted look for taking her away from her mostly Chinese only patrons. Previously, the aged waitress would help with my leftovers, but this time she just set the containers down on the table and walks away. Lastly, I did not even wait to try to flag the aged waitress down for my check as this lady was wasting my time. So I went straight to the register and paid for the check. Note: I have never experienced with any restaurant for the service to get worse with every visit. Wang Wah, obviously after this experience did not deserve any tip or my business. Additionally, another Wang Wah patron arriving as I was leaving told me of a previous experience where she had gotten takeout fried rice with her meal and her rice was burnt. Ocean Ave is really not the best area to get Chinese food, but I can see how having a couple Chinese restaurants nearby can be convenient for 24 Fitness members and students. However, I do not recommend this particular Ocean Ave Chinese restaurant.

My go to place for lunch. They have the best lunch specials. The honey walnut shrimp is delicious and so is the chow mein. The crab wontons aren’t like regular ones since there isn’t any cream cheese in it so it tastes a little to fishy.

After reading some Unilocal reviews and seeing the killer lunch deal, I decided to get the takeout lunch special that has chowmein, sweet and sour pork, an egg roll and 2 deep fried shrimp for like $ 6. The portion was ENORMOUS(mostly chow mein) and I ate way less than a quarter of it. The chowmein was way too greasy, and the sweet and sour pork didn’t taste very good. I wasn’t a fan. The egg roll had a weird smell to it, like over used grease maybe. It seems that they do have fans though, because when I went to pick up my food, the restaurant was pretty crpwded with Asian construction dudes chowing down. So who knows. I don’t eat Chinese food too often but if I crave it at lunch again, there are a ton of other options in this neighborhood that I would try first.

This is a great place to eat Chinese food. Great service, the people there are very friendly, they give huge portion, food tastes good and a lot to choose from. I love the specials, a little bit variety for me. This place is quite small and when it’s lunch time it’s pack and food delays a bit but overall it’s great being there. I eat there couple times a month and I highly recommend people to try it here.

Found myself in the area and was craving Chinese food. I turned to Unilocal for a good Chinese restaurant and thought I couldn’t go wrong with a restaurant who has a review average of four stars. I was wrong. I ordered combination egg rolls, chow mein, general chicken, Mongolian beef, and chicken with steamed vegetables. For $ 38, the portions were decently sized, but the food is possibly the worst Chinese food I’ve had in San Francisco. All of the food lacked any flavor. This is what I imagine Chinese food in Nebraska tastes like, not a restaurant on Ocean Avenue. If I didn’t hate wasting food so much, I’d throw this away and go get Panda Express. Needless to say, I won’t be back.

Wang Wah, what can I say. Truly, a great place to eat for lunch and dinner. Authentic Chinese food that offers a rich selection of variety and taste. Comfort food at its core and very fulfilling as well! If you get the letter orders(F, G, H, J, etc), you get fried rice or chow mein, chicken/pork/beef, and usually prawns with an egg roll. It’s like Panda Express on steroids. The presentation looks similar but the quality and taste is much better. Certainly a place where you can feast. I used to get the letter orders but now I do family style because I want to tone it down. Keep in mind that Wang Wah tends to get busy during lunch time as the construction workers start piling in. But they have ample seating and to-go is also not a bad idea. If you go here, you will find yourself coming back again — and that is okay. Just make sure you are hungry because you will be eating a lot!

My husband and I ordered chicken lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, and an order of egg rolls, and all 3 items were not edible. We threw it away after one bite of each. The lo mein noodles were angel hair spaghetti noodles with a pile of bok choi on the top. The sweet and sour sauce on the chicken tasted like chemicals. Will NEVER go here again. Don’t waste your time or money!

Cheap lunch combos. Bbq pork fried rice + brocolli beef + egg roll + 2 fried shrimp for $ 7.55 total. Came here at 11.40am and it was packed with chinese men… no women in sight I guess for the big portions they give, it’s worth the money. Food to go was very fast although they were really busy. The old chinese woman that helped me was very efficient, took my order w/out any rudeness whatsoever. Restroom inside. Free 2 hr parking around the neighborhood. Will be coming back!

Dinner for 4 just might be the best deal in all of the lands! 8 dishes for $ 32?! Is it 1994? Back to the future I go! Great American Chinese food. Better than everything else on ocean. Fast, clean, cheap. Me likey

There are so many little Chinese cafes on Ocean Ave that it can be hard to distinguish one from the other. This place is my go-to takeout place. It’s a total hole in the wall but the food is always fresh, good, and a total value. Love the hot and sour soup and wonton noodle soups. Also the green beans are a favorite and they use actual chopped garlic vs the jarred stuff! Ask them to make it spicy with pork. So gooood. Can’t say much for ambience but you can get tasty, reliable Chinese food here. They serve Cantonese, Schezuan and Hunan style food.

Reminds me of home cooking. Simple but delicious dish of Yam leaves(Chinese water spinach). We usually enjoy the Peking spareribs, tomato beef chow mein and chicken and green beans.

The place is good because it’s fast, big servings and clean. Food was very whatever. Not cool that Server kicked me out when I was just packing up bag to leave. I saw she didn’t do the same for the construction workers that surrounded me.

Fail. I really don’t get the rave reviews. I tried this place for lunch the other day as I was over on that side of the city and Unilocal reviews were good. I would NOT return. I was going to order a particular lunch special and the waitress steered me to another one(shouldn’t have listened) because the one I was selecting had no rice. she said you want rice. I was in a hurry and given all the raves I thought fine I’ll take her guidance. The food: the plate was 80% rice. a huge mound of flavorless rice with two small portions of broccoli beef and sweet and sour chicken. The chicken was almost inedible — so dry. The broccoli beef was heavy on the sauce and the broccoli itself looked like something I would compost, yellowing on the side so very not fresh. I ate about 1⁄5 of the food and couldn’t handle more so I paid and left.

This place is by far, the cheapest yet most satisfying Chinese restaurant on Ocean Ave. Yes, I’m dissing you Emmy’s and Joe’s! haha Big portions and really good chinese take out place. Yesterday, I ordered the honey walnut prawns w/fried rice. It’s a combination item that has loads of chicken fried rice. Truly a bang for your buck! I can’t believe that it has been closed for more than a year. Moreover, I can’t believe it’s recently reopened for 2 months now too. lol Definitely a fan… going back there tonight. haha P.S For phone orders, make sure they understand you, I’ve always had to problem of them not really messing up, but still something is missing… like Make it hot and spicy — i got no spiciness etc.
