It was a Saturday afternoon when my friend and i decided to go to San Francisco for the day. I thought wouldn’t it be nice to do a quick fun wine tasting in the city. So I looked on Groupon and lone behold found this gem of a deal. We were there for a little over an hour and enjoyed about 5 flights. It was great and part of the Groupon deal was a free bottle of wine(value of $ 35). I’m SOLD! I would come back but this time with a group of friends. The guys that were there serving up these grapes were great.

My 200th review goes to Wattle Creek! How interesting is it that fate landed me on this Groupon page for a good deal wine tasting Wattle Creek Winery Tasting Room? Then it led me to meeting someone who would happily accompany to said wine tasting? When I purchased this Groupon, I thought I had to drag my boyfriend at the time to come with me, then I thought I would have no one to go with and the Groupon would go to waste.. Somehow, I still ended up at Wattle Creek Winery Tasting room despite the odds… And had a total blast! I had never tried redeeming a Groupon anywhere before, so I wasn’t sure if this was something I needed to reserve/make an appointment for. We walked in, and were instantly fascinated by some of the wine-related souvenirs. Then we made our way to the bar, where we were greeted in a friendly and professional manner, and redeeming the groupon was no hassle at all. The lady who worked with us during our tasting was very knowledgable, attentive, and efficient. We didn’t feel pressured or rushed at all during our tasting and she did a fantastic job catering to several groups of people. She gave detailed and understandable descriptions of each wine we were tasting and made excellent suggestions according to our tastes. The Groupon included tastings for 2, and a bottle of wine up to $ 35, however most of the wines I tasted and liked were over $ 35. Overall, each of the wine we tasted were unique, especially the selections from the Vintage Select list. However, none stood out especially to me so that when it was time to pick a favorite I couldn’t really pick one. I also found the pourings to be on the less generous side compared to other wine tastings I’ve been to. In the end we decided to go with one people consider to be less sophisticated, the WC Sparkling Shiraz… Apparently it pairs well with bacon, so, we’re going to make lots of bacon. and pop open this bottle one morning for no reason whatsoever. Or maybe perhaps to celebrate something special in the near future.

Great wine tasting! The 2012 Cab is definitely the best we tried out of the six we had.

Found this place on Groupon before going on vacation to San Francisco. The place was easy to find. Parking is rough, but it’s a touristy part of SF. The place is small, but had enough outside seating. On cold days, the bar inside will be full! Unfortunately, no chairs inside. The bartenders were attentive and very knowledgeable about their wines. They made great recommendations for what to taste. We did a wine tasting that included a bottle of wine from the Groupon. We really enjoyed the wine and the atmosphere as there was a musician playing good music and we had front row seats. Great people watching place. The wine was great! We were happy to take one bottle home! Thank you so much for excellent service!

Location: 4 stars, Wine: 4 stars, Service: 0 stars, Price: 0 stars= 2 stars. I’ve been coming here during trips to the city, when someone is in town, or when I feel like taking a break from a festival/event at fort mason. Boy oh boy did that change when I visited on 10÷10÷15. It started out smoothly, I told them I had a groupon, they proceeded with the ritual and they knew my counterpart due to his frequent visitations. The first person that helped us was, the seemingly veteran, Forrest. He was fabulous, made small talk, conscientious, and made seamless suggestions. He recalled my friend to the point he suggested most of his tastings, which was a huge plus… Then, he took a break. Another worker(shorter, about 5’6″, balding, scruffy, and a bit ‘big-boned’ if you catch my drift) finished us off. He asked what bottle I wanted with my groupon– I selected one that was $ 38.00, he wrapped it, checked off my groupon, then asked me for $ 3.46. I was quite taken aback, I was not aware that there was a price limit since there was; 1. no disclaimer on the site, 2. he had not brought this up while wrapping/having me choose a bottle, 3. been to this location with the same groupon prior and it had never occurred, both to me or to any of my friends. I figured I would pay it since it was probably a new groupon update that I didn’t read… NOPE. All in all, after contacting groupon and having them try to reach the business on my behalf there was no luck-apparently this could not be resolved. I was refunded for my groupon and handed a huge wake up call when it comes to this winery; expect to pay more than advertised. I would not recommend this place based on customer service; they succeeded in swindling me out of my money and I can no longer trust them, personally. Their wine is pretty swell though, I would recommend picking up a bottle or getting the groupon and expecting to pay the difference-regardless it’s still an average deal. Perhaps the actual winery is much more obliging with their customers, until then… I’ll AVOID.

My girlfriend and I found a really great Groupon deal for the Wattle Creek Winery Tasting Room, so we decided to go for it. For about $ 40, the deal includes two reserve list tastings(normally $ 25 per tasting) and one select bottle of wine(up to $ 35; for bottles over $ 35, you simply pay the difference). If it is still available, I would highly recommend purchasing it. Although Wattle Creek has a great location(Ghirardelli Square), the tasting room was surprisingly uncrowded when we visited on a Saturday afternoon. Our server was friendly although she seemed to want to keep the tasting at a really slow pace(a rate of about one pour every 6 – 7 minutes) even though she wasn’t waiting on any other customers. She even commented how we were rushing through the wines. While I enjoy sipping my wine deliberately and pausing after each sip for some introspection, it still only takes a minute or two to slowly enjoy 2 oz. of wine. I’m not really sure why she was stalling so much. Maybe she just wanted us to buy some of wine-related paraphernalia on their shelves. Most of the wines were quite impressive. The standouts to us were the Chardonnay and the Grenache. The Grenache began with an explosion of fruit and berry flavor and then became rather complex. We ended up choosing a bottle of the Grenache as our free bottle. Both of us are big fans of Cabs, but the two that we tasted from their reserve list were underwhelming. The tannin structure was pretty weak and neither one was particularly memorable. At the end of the tasting, our server poured us some of their sparkling Shiraz. All I have to say about the taste is that I can see why sparkling red wine is not that popular. Yuck. Overall, the reserve tasting menu at Wattle Creek Winery was exciting and had some wonderful surprises(which more than made up for the few duds). We probably wouldn’t go back for a tasting at their nominal prices, but if the Groupon is available again, I would definitely buy it.

Got a wine tasting groupon as a gift. REALLY great deal. Taste any 6 wines(the staff was really friendly and actually let us try 7) and get $ 35 towards a bottle. We left with their most expensive bottle, going to have it on our anniversary. I highly recommend stopping here if you’re in San Francisco and don’t have time to go to Napa.
